Angela’s Story

Site created on January 1, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for our very dear friend Angela.

I am having a hard time putting this into words, but feel it is necessary to get prayers going for our dear best friend Angela. With Brian's permission, we have set up this site so we can get prayers and positive thoughts coming in for the days ahead.
Angela is in critical condition in the hospital following a brain hemorrhage and anoxic brain injury. New Year’s Eve morning, she began to feel faint and had a terrible headache. Brian was out of town on a work trip, she had Alina and Ava drive here to the local emergency room. While enroute, she began to exhibit advanced symptoms and the girls called 911 and were instructed to stop at the nearest fire station where she was transferred to an ambulance unit. While in the ambulance on the way to the ER, she went into cardiac arrest and became unconscious. She was resuscitated and then soon admitted into the Collierville Baptist ER. The doctors discovered significant bleeding in her brain. She was then transferred to the neurological ICU at Baptist East Memphis. There, the doctors confirmed excessive pressure in her brain and were successfully able to alleviate that pressure.  Over the course of the night, she received an MRI, CT scan and EEG among other tests and it was determined she has suffered an anoxic brain injury. She subsequently had been sedated, but still is experiencing brain seizures throughout the night and and into today. She remains sedated and in critical condition. Brian was able to reunite with her early yesterday afternoon prior to her transfer. He’s been by her side comforting her as much as they would let him. Later that afternoon, Angela’s parents, her brother Scott, sister Katrina, and the girls were all able to see her sporadically throughout yesterday and today.
Her prognosis is unknown at this point, but is considered serious. She needs prayers and positive thoughts more than ever.  As information is provided, updates will be made to this site. Please leave your prayers and well-wishes here instead of calling and texting Brian and the girls.

Angela is a STRONG woman and we know that she will fight hard. She has always been a GIVER and now its our turn to GIVE her love and support during these difficult times.

Journal entry by Karen London

Angela Thompson Witkowsky passed on January 03, 2021. Angela remained in a critical state following a stroke which resulted in an anoxic brain injury. She was admitted to the hospital on the morning of December 31st. After exploring every option for a reasonable recovery, the decision was made in accordance with the guidance of her living will. The family honored Angela’s wishes to withdraw her from life-prolonging procedures, artificially prolonging the dying process and allowing for her merciful passage while providing for her immediate comfort and alleviation of pain.

In loving memory, let us remember Angela, the loving and faithful wife of Brian; proud and caring mother of Alina and Ava; cherished daughter of Bob and Connie Ruth; revered sister of Scott and Katrina; and the beloved member of the extended Thompson and Witkowsky families. She was loved and faithfully loyal to so many that have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to call her a friend and a sister. Adored beyond words, she is embraced as intelligent, selfless, beaming with life and passion, and as a woman who has touched so many lives with her love, brilliance, hospitality, and service. She always was able to find a way to make everyone around her feel bigger and is more than an example of life and love. Angela was an organ donor and in her final act of generosity and selflessness, she provided what she, her family, and her friends hope can be a precious gift of life for others in their times of need. May her beauty, brilliance and compassion of mind, body, and spirit continue to empower those whom she leaves behind and be embodied in the lives of those blessed to receive her special gifts.

Angela and her family have been positively overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, prayers, thoughts, memories, and support during this difficult time. Angela’s immediate family celebrated her life with an intimate, chaplain led, ceremony in her room prior to her passing. In accordance with Angela’s desire to reduce the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, a celebration of life will be postponed until a date and time to be determined when the conditions provide the appropriate level of public safety. Angela’s family asks that in lieu of flowers and gifts, donations be provided under her name to any of the following charities:
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis https://rmhc-memphis.org
The Michael Scott Learning Center in Stevenson, Alabama https://www.michaelscottlearningcenter.com
The Mid South Food Bank https://www.midsouthfoodbank.org
