Andrew’s Story

Site created on February 28, 2023

As most of you are now aware, Andrew was involved in a rollover accident on I-35 headed out of Austin the morning of Sunday, February 26th. He is currently in ICU at a hospital in Round Rock, TX. He is making good progress, but has a long road to recovery ahead. He is mentally doing well, and for that we are immensely grateful.

Here's how you can help:
- 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗺𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: @𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 (has pic of Andrew & Alyssa). She will be putting the funds in a dedicated savings account to help with recovery related expenses (medical bills, accessibility adjustments to their home, etc.) 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬) 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. They are used "to power site improvements, maintain a safe and secure platform, and fairly compensate our team members."
- A Meal Train will be set up when the time comes.
- Alyssa will also reach out to people for other specific needs once they return to OKC.

Please note that they are unable to receive food, flowers, or packages at the hospital.

We will continue to provide updates as we can. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out, offered words of encouragement, or offered to help in any way. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has shown support during this time of need.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Alyssa Lankford

Quick update for a big milestone - Andrew is cleared to walk! We had his appointment with the orthopedic doctor yesterday morning, and Andrew has been cleared to start walking with his boot on. His ankle seems to be healing well, and for that we are so thankful. He is using a walker while he regains his strength and balance, but as with everything, he is progressing quickly.

His scapula fracture also appears to be healing well, although the orthopedic doctor has scheduled Andrew for an MRI to ensure no rotator cuff tear on his left side. We are praying hard this MRI comes back clear, as we’d like to avoid another surgery and any potential setbacks.

On Monday, Andrew will meet with his doctor from the inpatient rehab facility for a check-up, and also will meet with his neurologist to discuss how his back is healing. We are hoping Andrew can get out of the back brace ASAP. Our next steps will be outpatient PT to help Andrew gain strength.

Tomorrow marks six weeks from the accident, and slowly but surely we are seeing snippets of normalcy return to our lives. Last night we spent the evening celebrating a friend’s birthday, and it was so fun to eat good food, enjoy great company, and spend many hours laughing (although Andrew’s poor ribs will be sore for that today 🫣). We are so thankful for these moments of normalcy - it’s not lost on us how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy them.
