Newest Update

Journal entry by Melanie Lara

Last update was just before Christmas so thought I’d take a moment to update you all. We have now passed the 6 month mark since the day of my dad’s tragic accident. The day that would forever change so many things...  and in so many ways he/we are still processing and trying to deal with the new norm. My dad puts on a good front, saying he’s doing “okay” but I won’t sugar coat it. Every day he lives with a lot of pain and extremely tight muscles. Esp when the weather changes, and at the end of the day. I just spent the last 9 days in Nebraska over Easter and spring break, and witnessed how tight the muscles in his arms and shoulders can be - rock solid like a body builder. I’ve given him a few suggestions (importance of hydration, movement & diet, increase the therapeutic massages, try acupuncture, cupping, etc) but if anyone has any helpful suggestions, feel free to reach out to me. He’s still doing his outpatient physical therapy, which definitely helps, and will be for quite a while. He’s gained a little more mobility in being able to turn his head left to right, but still needs to turn his whole body to look to the side. His arms have gained some mobility too but still needs help w daily tasks like putting on a shirt or coat, washing hair, etc. We knew from the beginning it’s a long hard road, and we keep praying for improvement. Please keep him in your prayers and offering words of encouragement. Some days it’s exactly what he needs to push through the day.

In lighter news, my parents just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Since my dad was not feeling up to going out to dinner,  a special dinner was made at their house, served by the best waitresses (some of their grand-daughters). We did our best to make the most out of their special day 💗
