Alisha was diagnosed with stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer (an extremely rare and aggressive form).  Alisha will update as she feels strong enough to share how her treatments are going.  She can also post her immediate needs that can be met by the amazing community of friends and family that surround her!  Check out her first journal post for her story on how this difficult journey and diagnosis began.

Journal entry by Alisha Herrmann

I am feeling so relieved to finally have a possible answer and solution to my debilitating pain!
While the MRI, unfortunately, did not detect anything to explain my pain, I just saw an orthopedic surgeon through UCSF where they specialize in more rare and complex cases, and after just doing an x-ray, the doctor feels pretty certain that I have an impending fracture in my hip and was ready to schedule me for surgery to stabilize the bones before they break.  Just to be sure, he ordered a CT scan, which should show better imaging for detecting an impending fracture than an MRI or x-ray would.  I wish that I would’ve known to ask for a CT versus an MRI sooner as CTs apparently detect issues with the bone whereas an MRI looks more at soft tissue. Regardless, it sounds like this may be the solution to my pain and so I can walk again, so I finally have hope.  I also have pain in my sits bone and pelvis, so I’m not sure what the doctors are going to do about that unless perhaps it is some prodromal symptoms and compensation happening.  I will still be getting a second opinion just to be sure before going through with surgery.
I am thinking this fracture is due to the bone med I’ve been on which can have a rare side effect of causing fractures in the femoral neck due to it weakening the bone due to cell turnover.  I’ve also been experiencing jaw pain which is most likely caused by the same bone med and there happens to be a correlation so I am no longer going to be getting this bone med.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, love, and support.
