Alaura was able to stand for the first time on September 30 and on October 1 took her first steps with a walker. Her Physical Therapist, Eric said it went about as good as he could have hoped for. She put one foot in front of the other without any hesitation - so the body and brain connection is working great!

Eric provided a list of exercises and wanted her to walk as much as possible each day with her walker. Anyone who knows Alaura should not be surprised that she blew that out of the water and is now walking with a cane. The great news is that she will be ready to move to outpatient rehabilitation soon. The only downside is that we won't be seeing the great team that has been taking care of her each week since July. She has had a nurse, Speech Therapist (they work on brain activities) and Physical Therapist - they are all incredible and have done so much to help and support Alaura in her recovery.  As much as we will miss them, this is a huge step for Alaura.

We were able to get rid of the hospital bed and move Alaura back to her own bedroom.  She can finally sleep in her own bed and has mastered the shower! We could not have dreamed 4 months ago, this would be possible this soon. Not only does she continue to break barriers with her recovery, she is truly an inspiration. No matter the pain level or the challenges ahead, she never feels sorry for herself or complains - she just keeps fighting to get better and navigate the road ahead of her.

I will try to post a video or some pictures soon to share her progress.

As always thank you for the prayers, cards, words of encouragement, support and love.
