Hey Mitch,
I don't know if you remember me or not but I am a friend of your moms. We used to work at Hair Tree together. It's good to hear that you are doing so well. What an awful thing for you or anyone to go through. At such a young age too. My prayers are with you and your family. Maybe I can come and see you and your mom sometime. I haven't seen you since you were about 4 years old and I haven't seen your mom since she stopped working at Sophisti-cuts. Take care.

A teensy fae flew in to say,
"I hope you're doing well today.
Just wanted to come by and say to you,
I hope this holiday all of your wishes come true.
For I'm sure you've been good, I've heard from the source,
So you should get all that you want - I'll tell Santa, of course :)!"
Then she fluttered her wings and disappeared,
Leaving you dusted with love and good cheer.
Have a terrific holiday season :),

Hi Mitch and family,
Your Mom signed my granddaughters guestbook on the Caringbridge site - Maddie Miller. Maddie was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma and had back to back brain surgeries a little more than 4 years ago at age 3. She has been doing fine since. She did not need chemo, just periodic MRIs - they are an annual event now. She did lose a "wedge" of her peripheral vision but will probably compensate it. I am glad that you have done so well. It sounds like you are the picture of health. I am sure your illness has made you a stronger person, even if you aren't aware of it. I had to write, because in all of my searching I find it hard to find someone else with this type of tumor. Of course they told us that there is no genetic research on this tumor in a child Maddie's age so we are just taking each MRI as it comes. I know the feeling of apprehension before each one and the relief of a good report. We are so thankful that Maddie continues to do so well. You would never know what she has been through.
So on that note I will close and want you to know that now that we have made this link, you and your family will be in our prayers. We wish the best for you and your family. Thanks to your Mom for the contact on Maddie's site. Sincerely - Patty Railey

Glad Mitch had fun at camp. I was reading back through your posts to catch up on your lives... Glad the MRI is still stable, I understand about the wanting your kids to be liked thing. Emerald was a *cool*, popular kid at her school, and i spent a lot of time, trying to instill that she should follow the kids around that weren't kind to other kids. She ended up being such a peacemaker and friend to everyone. I was so afraid that people would think she was a brat and not like her... so in a different way, it made sense to me.

Lots of hugs, and happiness.

Love,

Hi Paula,

I just read your entry and I felt compelled to write. My son, Johan (now 9), is also a brain-tumor patient at Doernbecher (treated initially in 2002 and again for a recurrence in 2004).

It's a rough road. These kids are special. I don't think they're ever the "cool" kids - but they are the COOL kids, and are going to be awesome adults - filled with compassion, understanding and wisdom. I have the same pain and fears as you. Just wanted to tell you - I understand.

Hey Mitch,
Hope you have a great week at school! PE can be hard sometimes...I know my son has his days he just can't do what everyone else is doing....and it's very hot here in Florida, combine that with chemo and it's not so easy, but like you, he enjoys everything else about middle school, especially being around his friends! So you enjoy and just have fun!

We are trying to get him to write e-mails more to his pals. Hey Mitch.
This is Ian's dad. I just wanted to tell you that no matter whats said about you in middle school. Don't let any one make your feelings be hurt. Every one judges people by the way they look. Don't let it get too you. Evey now and then I'll shave my head balder then it already is and people with judge me. but you know what I say. I did it to support some of my sons friends with cancer and they changes their feelings. Ian's short for his age but he dosen't let people get to him because he knows that if they say bad things about him that he knows that god made him and loves him.
Keep up the good spirts in middle school. Ian know's what you are going threw. He's in the 6th grade too. Feel free to e-mail him any time you want. Ian asked of you are still in band?

Paula, That is so stupid its funny. I would be worried about the woman. Don't know if she thought she was being funny and totally missed what bad taste it was to say such a thing. I can just pictue the look on your face...what? I'll put that in my file on what stupid things not to say to a parent with a child with a brain tumor. Take care I hope middle school transition goes well

Hi Mitch and family,

I just wanted to say hello and that I am so happy that you are doing so well. I don't really write much but I do think about you all often. I met you once at Isaac's memorial and you and your family made quite the impression on me and I'm glad to hear that you and Lucas are friends. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer before school starts again and take care :)

Hey Mitchell!!, I am still thinking of you all the time. And we still will alwys have your cute face on our boys site to remind us of you. I hope that you are continuing to get better all the time. Kyle is doing very well and still loves his playstation games. I understand that you might have the same problem that he does; and that is to STOP playing to eat and take a breath!! He is into racing games only, and plays way to much. We even take his play stations disc to hospital during his chem treatments because he doesn't like their games.

Our prayers are with you that Mitch will never experience a recurrence. That the surgery and the chemo knocked the cancer right out of his body never to return. Things here are still crazy as I'm having to go through and inventory my mothers collections so that we can value the estate and disperse her belongings among the six of us. The siblings come back to town 6/24 after that I should be able to come up for air and visit with you guys again. Katelin's doing great. She's off to southern california for a week with her aunt and uncle. She's thrilled. Take care and we'll be in touch early July.

Hi Paula,
I do hope you all get sleep tonight. Katelin went for her MRI today but we don't see the doctors until weds as they wanted time to do a thorough evaluation. So we sit and wait. I'm sure it will be okay no reason to think it would have started growing. It was lonely as we didn't know any of the people or where we were going but we had each other and did fine. The anesthesialogist and sedation nurse were very nice and explained everything they did that was different than what we were use to...we talked about next MRI trying it without sedation but having the sedation ready in case she wasn't ready. I hope we can get her to do them without sedation I think she can but she's saying no. Talk to you soon.

DOn't be sorry for the feelings you have. Every parent of a child with a chronic or long term illness has the same fears and concerns. Every time a child earns their wings, it brings a sense of panic to those who are here. It's okay to feel the way you do, vent, and generally worry.

You are not crazy, nor do you need to get a grip. It is a natural feeling/reaction to what has been happening these last few months, but especially this last week. We have lost some very, very dear friends here on earth. But now they are able to look after and protect our children still on earth. I don't know exactly how you feel because no one can, but I understand completely. I have been an absolute basket case, with chemo and MRI right around this time. Ryan won't hardly come near me because when he does I won't let him go. I wish I could tell you everything is going to be alright. I wish I could garuantee things for you and for other mothers, even for myself. I hate living in the unknowns and what if's, but it is definitely a way of life for us, and everytime we hear of something we get very scared for our children. We are thinking of you and praying for you always and forever.

Hi Paula. I'm Becky McGlothlin. I just sent you an email and came right to your son's webpage. I completely understand how you feel. I always carried my home phone or cell phone where ever I was in case Kyle needed me immediately. You are a mother and mother's worry about every little thing. Keep the faith and know that whatever happens, it will be for a purpose. My son's purpose is to greet all the children who bravely fought the good fight. Hi Paula. I hear you with the not wanting to let your child out of your site comment. I would keep her with me all the time, but it wouldn't be the best thing for her, I guess. I think with the lost of Cheyenne, and any of the kids, a little part of me is gone.

Your kids costumes look great! How fun! Mitch's made me smile when I saw the ears. How very cool!

I hope your day is going well. I had taken kind of a break, I guess from visiting everyone... It was all so overwhelming. I swear, one could spend WEEKS going from site to site and not reach the end, it just tears at my heart. (sigh)

We wanted to go to the pumpkin patch last weekend too, but everytime we would pass one on our way home Ryan was sleeping. I wasn't about to wake him up either. He is kind of cranky when you do that. He is going Thursday with school and I think we are going to try and go to one over the weekend so that we can carve them for Halloween. Praying for you always.

I often wonder myslef if any good will come out of all of our suffering, our children's suffering and all the crap that they are put through. I hold onto the little things and I have to tell you that every time I think of Mitch and what an incredible boy he is that I feel good! I really enjoyed getting together for coffee and hope to do it again soon. Take care and give Mitch and big hug for me.

Paula, It is good to remember how far the kids have come from those dreaded days post diagnosis and be grateful for every day we have with our children (brain tumors or not). They are having the "4 paws for a cure" fundraiser next sat Oct 9th in Portland where kids come and walk their dogs across two of the bridges to raise money for NCCF. Last year we designated Katelin's $$ to go to Pediatric Brain tumor research. I thought if you guys had a dog or just wanted to come walk with all of us it would be great to meet you in person. Their website is www.pawswalk.org you can click on portland, or to get more info. Last year we went to Lucky Lab brewpub where you can take your dogs to get lunch and a pint. Lots of fun. Let me know if you want to join us.

Paula,
So glad Mitch is loving school. Katelin too was anxious about going back but seeing her friends and meeting her new teacher quickly changed everything and she's having a good time. I know what you mean about everything is great then what the heck is wrong with me. I'm going through the same thing. I find myself wanting to stay in the now...I don't want the future to come because the doctors have told me it will get worse. It's not that I'm obsessed with the future but its there looming over us like a black cloud. I also find myself getting angry when folks tell me to not think about it or that everything will be wonderful don't worry about it. But then Katelin will walk into the room and I am so thankful things are going so well right now that I then focus on making the most out of today. If you ever need or want to talk just give me a call. Love from Oregon.

Paula,

I know EXACTLY what you mean with the "what ifs". Ashley has an MRI next Thursday, Sept. 2nd and I am an absolute basket case. I get this way about two weeks before MRI and then I'm okay until the next one. As parents of kids with brain tumors all of our inocence is GONE and things you never thought of before are all you think about now. God help us. I have visited your site before and check on Mitch often. I have prayed for him and your family for awhile now. I will pray for your sanity during MRI time and that all will be just perfect. God loves us and NO, there is no getting used to it. Ashley has been off chemo for almost 4 years and I still freak if I think something is wrong. But it does get better, you know, it's our way of life now.

Take care and have a great weekend,

Hi Paula,
When I read your journal post today it hit home hard. I have a co-worker who lost his 5 year old son of a sudden fatal heart problem on the soccer field last oct. The father (my friend) was his coach and was right there when he collapsed and died in his arms. I remember going to bed that night thinking my god this was their first night without their son, then when I woke the next morning the first thing I thought was this is Bill & Amy's first morning of waking up without Michael. It went on like that for weeks/months. I could so relate to these parents pain. I think because we have had our children's lives threatened by this horrible disease that their pain becomes our pain in some way. Hang in there. I hope the fever and leg pain go away sometime soon. I know it seems minor in comparison to Isaac but Mitch's pain and health issues are real don't feel you need to down play them. Take care. Love from Oregon

Hey!
Glad Mitch is having more energy here lately. I wanted to let you know that the balance thing could be the Periactin. Catie took it for a while and her balance got so bad that we did an MRI (even though she had just had one 3 weeks before). We ended up trying to lower the dose and eventually just stopped it b/c she started eating better. (when we started her on an iron supplement). Hope he continues to gain more energy every day.

Paula - Hang in there! So glad to hear you are home it does make all the difference. How frustrating that the doc's don't know what it is and call it a migraine. Maybe it is one but it seems so like an easy way out. I've been frustrated this week with just the fact that our doc's can't tell me why Katelin has severe hives and act like it is nothing. Which in comparison to what you've gone through it is nothing. Keep on the doctors don't take migraines as the easy answer and push them to get you real answers. If you ever need to talk you have my number.

that I am praying for Mitch and the whole family. Until my granddaughter Emerald got sick, I never really new how many
sweet sick children there were in this world. It truly breaks my heart. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless

Hi Paula,
It's been many years since we've chatted, but thought it was time to drop you a line. It's crazy and scary to see cancer coming into so many lives of those we know. My oldest son is going to be a senior at Mt. View next year, which is wild because it seems like yesterday we were all just there ourselves.

Watching Mitch and Isaac's obstacles and accomplishments is humbling -- you are an inspiration.

Paula, So sorry to hear Mitch's arm problem has escalated to this. I'm praying that the dr's quickly figure out what is wrong and that medication can resolve it. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you while he is in the hospital. I live 20 minutes away from the hospital so even if you just need someone to talk to, a shoulder to lean on whatever know that I'm here for you.

I'm so happy to read that Mitch is feeling so much better. I know it helps moms and dads when their babies aren't constantly in pain. I hope ya'll have a great day and a fantastic summer.

Hi Paula, I was reading through this weeks emails and saw that Mitch is going to Doernbacher for treatment. We live in Beaverton and my daughter Katelin (age 6 JPA optic chiasm/hypothalamus) has been treated at Legacy Emanuel for the past year. Her dx was on 6/27/03 and she began 18 months of chemo on 8/7/03 so we have another 8 months of chemo. I was wondering if we could talk as I've been having some issues with the radiologist at legacy and thought about checking out doernbacher's for scans. I'm not ready to switch oncologist as Vik Kanwar has been wonderful but would be interested in talking with you about the clinic and support you receive from them. You could give me a call 503-644-2667 or email me your phone number and I can give you a call. I haven't connected with anyone in the area living this journey and would love to make a connection.

Hi,

This is such scary stuff, isn't it. And half the time we can never find out what causes these problems. Cheyenne's eye actually gets a little better, then it will get worse for a couple of days, then get better again. Since it has been 2 months since the scans maybe they will tell us something on the 17th. Mitch is always in our prayers. Give him a great big hug from Cheyenne.

Don't scare us like that! We will be praying really hard that this never, never happens again. Just think about how much it scared you, your poor mom probably got a few more gray hairs last night. God Bless you.

I hope and pray the Dr's can find the cause of the problems and there is an easy fix. It becomes so frustrating knowing that something is going on, but all the experts don't have a clue.

Hi, hope you had fun at the party! I can definitely relate to doctors not knowing anything about what is going on. It is rather annoying. I was starting to think they were just distracted by Emerald's rainbow brite hair, but I guess this is pretty normal... (Sad, isn't it?)

I hope things continue to get better.

I do not think it is too much to ask for the doctor to look at the charts of all the kids he/she is going to see that day and review their history. I know they are busy, but they should know who they are seeing. They should also be able to give you more info about the tumor coming back, or at least be able to give you a book or website to go to in order to find out what you are looking for. I find myself feeling irritated and frustrated on your behalf.

On a positive note,I'm glad that Mitch is off treatment, and will be praying that he stays OT forever.

We will be in Vancouver in July for Aidan's check-up at Doernbechers and for the Relay for Life at Columbia River HS. He will be walking the survivor's lap with his grandfather. It would be great to meet you and Mitch!

Hope you have put on some weight, that would be a good thing. Wish we could get some on Cheyenne also. Don't know what we can do, but at least she never loses, just never gains. We'll be saying an extra prayer for you chemo on tuesday. God Bless.

Hi Mitchell,

I guess by now you got your award. That is such an honor but so very well deserved. I only wish I had 1/2 the courage that you and Cheyenne has. I am so sorry about the getting sick thing. The main reason I give Cheyenne a ride to school each day is because her first time was ON THE BUS. Very embarrassing for her. Fortunately, the next couple of times at school was in the restroom or the nurses office. You just keep getting better and have a GREAT day tomorrow. We are praying for you.

Isaac was granted his wish...he wished to swim with Dolphins! We will be going to San Diego Sea World. He is thrilled, even though I am very scared of fish (hee hee). Take care big guy and keep those pounds coming.

Paula,

Hi there, sounds like things are going well. I know we talked about getting together this weekend but we have decided to go ahead and have the cyst drained. Hey Mitch,

Hope and pray this round of chemo goes REALLY easy. Good luck on putting on the weight. We get Cheyenne to eat when she feels bad by giving her all the things that she shouldn't have. But, what the heck. Anything she eats on those days is good. She is beginning to look like a string bean. She even has to wear a belt on several of her pants now. The good news with her is that she is holding her own on weight, but is getting taller.

God Bless you guys.

Just dropped in to say hello. I hope the extra boost plus drinks do the trick in putting some weight on you. When Sam was having his chemo he didn't eat a thing {he was only 7 months old though so it was a bit different} but all the other kids on his ward drank lots of milk, & ate lots of ice cream.

Hi Mitch and Paula! Hey, I always go for those big thick milkshakes...they taste good and there's something very appealing about ice cream....you can add banana's too....what about pancakes? Sometimes I make breakfast for dinner if that's what the kids will eat....I'll tell you what, that's a great picture of you Mitch on your homepage! Are you getting snow? Believe it or not, my kids have never seen snow in person!! South Florida only gets hurricanes! No snowstorms...so they really want to see it! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mitch,
I check your site sometimes from Cheyenne's site. I have an idea...do you think the Boost would taste better if it were really cold and blended with some ice cream??? It would taste more like a milkshake. My dad has had it that way and he liked it better than just drinking it by itself. Maybe you could have your Mom fix it that way and let you try it. Thank you so much for stopping by Chris' site and for leaving a GB entry. I'm really, really bad about leaving those even though I spend about 3 or 4 hours a night checking in on everyone! That just means that there are tooooo many children battling this. :(

Anyhow, lucky you Mitch that you were out of school last week! Chris would have loved that. He stayed home last Thursday because he wasn't feeling too well. I bet if we had snow here he would have been out in it - feeling icky or not!

I am sorry to hear that Mitch is not feeling well. Maybe he has a virus on top of the Chemo? Your post really speaks to me...We just started Jake on Chemo and his "feeling yucky" was immediate. We have had such a wonderful experience with the Protocel and he has never been sick before....it just breaks my heart. Such a barbaric treatment to make our children better. Oh well, just remember throughout your entire journey....EVERYTHING WE DO TO and FOR OUR CHILDREN....EVERY CHOICE WE MAKE....IS MADE OUT OF LOVE. We love them and want them to be well.

Blessings,

Hey Mitchell,

I know how hard it is to eat like you used to, but we've got to keep the weight on, you know. Maybe you just haven't found what you like yet. We have discovered with Cheyenne, that when she says she is hungry, we have about 5 minutes to get food on the table or she loses her appetite. So far so good. She actually has gained a couple of pounds the last visits to the dr.

God Bless and you all have a Merry and Blessed Christmas.

I am all too familiar with the fear of what might come back, so when I pray for Mitch's continued health, I pray for you, too, Paula. I hope everything at school is better, and that Mitch is happy.

I am so glad to hear how well Mitch is feeling. Awesome news. It is so funny how you mention that you had missed his voice so much until it got back up to speed/volume. My Jake was so sick for such a long time before his tumor was discovered that I did not notice how lethargic he had slowly become. When he got better and could move and talk etc. I was completely unprepared for the normal energy that a 3 year old has...he was running me ragged. The cat and I were both like "oh my goodness who is this little terror?" You dont realize how different they were until they are back... I guess you kind of get used to them when they are sicker. Hugs and Kisses to you all.

Hi Paula,

I sometimes think that I am a bad dad because I don't want Cheyenne spending the night at friends all the time. The real truth is, since her diagnosis, I guess I am jealous and just want to spend every single minute with her. I generally realize this and let her go, but boy do I miss her. So Mitchell starts his next chemo on tuesday. Cheyenne was supposed to, but it hasn't arrived yet. Is he on oral, I forget. Cheyenne is doing Temodar, now on the 5 day schedule.

Hi Paula,

Just wanted to let you know I dropped by to check on you and Mitch. I recognize your feelings and they are very normal. I know that doesn't make it all better. I think we all must go through these feelings. My advice is to try to get your rest and to take a break from the emotion every once in awhile. A trip to the beach, a shopping trip or whatever will distract your mind will do. I know that is easier said than done but do what you can. Take good care of yourself.

Hugs,

Hi Paula,

You know what I am going to say. I know exactly what you are going thorugh and feel. There are those days that I have to fight myself to have a semi normal non-emotional day. We are human, nothing more. We love our children with all of our hearts. We would do anything, anything to save them. We have all probably prayed that the tumor would leave our children and come to us. But in the end, we can only do what we can do. There are so, so many people in the world that are less fortunate than us. So many people have lost their babies to horrible accidents without ever having the opportunity to say good bye. Our faults are that we love our children. God Bless you for that. With your love and God's help, Mitchell will live a wonderful long life.

God Bless you,

Hi Paula,
Just wanted you to know I know how you feel. Even after Sam being in remission 2 years I still have days where I can't get what he went through out of my head, or I think the cancer will come back & worry about what we would do if he died. Hearing news of other children dying or being ill obviously makes it worse but sometimes it will come for no reason at all. I used to think I was going mad but now after speaking to others I realise everyone does it. I'm sorry there is nothing I can really do to help you, I hope knowing you are not alone helps.
Take care

Mitch,
Great costume, you look JUST LIKE Harry. You are going to have lots of fun on Halloween; Matthew is sooo cute too. "It's not easy being green", per Kermit you know. Cheyenne has put together a Hawaiian outfit. I'll have to make the top though before we can post pictures. Cheyenne never gets a full breakfast either; her stomach is upset every morning. Luckily her school serves brunch, and that's when she feels up to eating. Wanted to let you know Mitch that you are on are ever so growing list of children to pray for everyday. I know exactly how your mom feels; sometimes the nightmare just seems to flood in. Not that we can ever forget that there is a monster in our babies head, but some days are worse then others. Praise God though, my Faith is in the Lord, I try not to worry about tomorrow, just live each day to the fullest.
God's Blessings and Love.

Checking in to say hello and hope you're feeling great! We just got back from a clinic visit- just a "well-check"- and everything was terrific. Maddie is feeling perfectly, and her doctor is pleased.

Okay, Mitch, you have to tell me what you picked out for Halloween..Then you have got to get mom to take a photo and post it. Cheyenne originally wanted to be a hula dancer or something, but I don't know if that is still her plan. She will have to know pretty quick, because there is a American Cancer Society Cancer Kids costume party coming up on the 26th. My daughter Pam also has a brain tumor and has been fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My yougnest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Mitch. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you musn't quit.(Just call on Jesus).
REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Hello Mitch,
I met and worked with your mother on 9/25/03. I had heard your story way before that. Your Mom is a very nice person and I think you are an awesome young man. Maybe someday I will get to meet you. You are in my thoughts and prayers, always. Stay strong and "Keep your head to the Sky!"

Hi Mitch,
My name is Julie, and my 13 year old daughter, Maddie was diagnosed with a brain tumor in April. She is doing really well and is taking Protocel, just like you. Awhile ago she felt kind of flu-like, too- we call it the "Protocel Funk"- and we stayed real positive about it, remembering that her body was working really hard to kill that yucky tumor. I'm glad to read you're feeling better. Tell your parents to feel free to contact us if they'd like to talk.
Go Mitch! Go Protocel!!

Hi Mitch,

Hopoe your day today was a good one. Our Miss Cheyenne had one of those embarrassing days today. She chose no to take a Zofran this morning, and guess what happened on the bus. Yeap, and she couldn't get the bus drivers attention until it was too late. The bus driver dropped her off at the house on his 2nd pass by the house. She chose to not go to school the rest of the day even though she felt fine. I think it was the embarrassment part of it. Of all the places, huh, it had to be on the bus for both of you. You are in our prayers and I'm hoping for a great day tomorrow for you.

Mitch.

My name is Rich. Your mom stopped by my son Sean's website for a quick visit. I finally got around to checking the message board there, and thought I might send you a little note. I see you have been a liitle ill lately. I hope you are feeling better. It can be kinda scary for your parents I think. I know I always get a little upset when Sean gets sick now, but it has always been a little cold or headache and it goes away just fine. I wanted to tell you that I can tell you are a very brave kid. Seems like you kinda have to be to get through all this doesn't it? Well, you keep on fighting and getting better. I will be checking back to see how everything is going. We will pray for you if that's alright. We've had a lot of people pray for us and it has helped us a whole bunch. Take care of yourself DUDE!!(hey, we're from California ya know;-) Talk to you soon.

Hey Mitch,

Hope you had a GREAT day today. With Cheyenne, it appears as if lowering her dosage of Protocel just a tiny bit did the trick. We had a no sickness day today. Hopefully it will continue so she can start school tomorrow. You have a really good day tomorrow and and fun. We are praying for you and thinking of you everyday.

Hey Mitch,

Sorry you were sick today. I will say an extra prayer for you tonight to feel great tomorrow and have a great time. Cheyenne is doing alot better, but as we were coming home today, she got sick once. But lately for her, once a day is an improvement. It seems to be slacking off for her right now. Last night we lowered her dose of Protocel just a little so maybe that will help. One thing about it though, when she got sick today, it was very obvious lysing. Exactly as described in the ebooklet. Cheyenne knows this and accepts it now. As long as it is getting rid of that tumor she is ok with it. Also, we believe that she is lsying so heavy because of taking the Protocel in conjunction with radiation. Now that radiation is over, maybe it won't be so bad.

Well, it is late and I need to go to bed. Good night and again, I hope and pray that you have a great day tomorrow.

Paul:

Last time Jake threw up was a couple of months ago and it was horrible. First thing in the morning just like before diagnosis..on a friday too. I called his oncologist and he was on-call and said bring him in anytime that weekend and he would be right there....well THANK GOD Mark started vomiting 2 days later...I got it after that. I must say it does make vomiting a much more enjoyable experience when it is a confirmation that your child has a virus!

Hope he feels better soon. Just FYI..to clear up the protocel/flu thing. Protocel does not cause you to feel sick. When Protocel kills the cancer it makes you feel sick. The brain tumor people feel worse than others just because the cancer is in the brain. I took it for 6 months with Jake and did not feel a thing ever. But it did get rid of a wart I had. (I can not believe I actually write that but it did) You should really call Julie Dornish (maddies mom) if you get a chance...she is so nice to talk to and she can explain all the beginning stuff well.

With Love,
Susan and Big Jake

Sorry you had to stay home today. I was telling Cheyenne today when she was giving me such a hard time about wanting to go to school, that it won't be long before she wants to miss a day every now and then. She will start Monday if all goes well between then and now. I've been wanting to comment on your photo. Being from West Texas, we just dream of water like in the photo. That is beautiful country that you live in.

I hope that you feel better tomorrow and don't let that old headache get to you. You are in our prayers every day.

Didn't catch anything fishing? Cheyenne and I go through that alot. Cheyenne loves to fish, and when we get back home, I am going to surprise her and take her fishing. She was still feeling sick today. Several of the kids that have been feeling sick this long, blame most of it on the radiation. Hopefully it will be over soon. I hope you have a really GREAT day tomorrow. God Bless you.

Good to hear the MRI showed no change, even though it's not the news you wanted at least it is better than showing the tumour getting bigger. I'll pray the new treatment will start shrinking it ready for your next MRI & clear scans!! You are so strong, well done for going through all of this & still managing to smile.

Mitch, You are such a handsome young man! I hope that everything continues to improve and this nasty demon leaves you for good. I know it must be very hard for you sometimes. My four year old little girl has a tumor in her brain stem and they can't operate on her, so all we have is hope and Protocel. She often has a struggle with how she is able to move around now compaired to how she used to. Her left side sometimes frustrates her when it doesn't work as well as her right side. Keep up the great work and strength! We are all saying prayers for you and your family.

Reading your journal, it sounded like you really had a blast with your friend. Don't get too nervous about your MRI on the 8th, we are all praying real hard that it will be a really good one. So is school fun? Our little girl, Cheyenne, can't go to school right now since her treatments are about 4 hours from our house. We have to stay there during the week. Hey Mitch,

Hope you day was a good one and tomorrow even better. Chemo is such a downer. My little girl takes chemo everyday also. She takes something called Zofran to keep her from getting sick. It works real good, especially when she takes it twice a day, but her doctor today wants to cut it to once a day. hopefully we will have a good day tomorrow morning without it. Have you decided for sure where you are going on your Make a Wish trip? My little girl, Cheyenne, hasn't decided yet, but it is fun deciding. You and your family are in our prayers. I'll drop by every now and then to say hello and let you know we are thinking of you and praying for you. God Bless you.

Hi Mitch,
Just dropping in to say hello. I hope you don't feel as sick anymore. I know the chemo's horrible & makes you feel really ill but it will all have been worth it in the end. I pray everyday for you that you will live a long & happy life. Keep fighting, & hope you have fun with your friend.
Take care

Mitch and Mom:

Thanks for the nice post in Jakes guestbook. I have been checking on you for quite sometime now. You are such a handsome guy and what a trooper! That sounds like quite some surgery you went through and I am glad to hear you are doing well and recovering. Thanks for the moral support about the bad dreams...you just love these little guys so much and to see them going through something else to make them miserable just breaks you heart. Keep up the fight.

With Love,

Hi Mitch & Family,

This is Loni, Codi's Mom. We're a Doernbecher family too. Thanks for signing her guestbook at codibug.com. Codi has been having a rough time but we always find time to enjoy some of the finer things in life (like shopping sprees).

I hope everything is going well with you Mitch. We have spent quite a bit of time at Doernbecher over the past few months so we may have seen you there at some point. We'll remember you in our prayers and hope that you start feeling lots better.

I hope you have fun in Disneyland. That was Codi's Make-a-Wish also. You really must check out Goofy's Kitchen! It ended up being a favorite with us while we were there. We also rented a car that Codi picked out for us - a bright yellow Ford Mustang convertible. It was a lot of fun. There are pictures of our trip at Codi's website.

You guys all stay strong and know we care about you. By the way, we put a link to your site on Codi's homepage.

Love,
Loni & Codi

Hi Mitch, My name is Dawna and my daughter is Savannah, your mom found our webpage and signed our book so I am finding out all about you on your site. Savannah was dx when she was 11 and just half way thru her 5th grade year. Her chemo was all inpatient so we spent alot of time there, the school district had a teacher come to the hosp. or home to help her until she felt good enough to go to school. I'm sure your mom will do what is best for you and your schooling.
Savannah also already had her MAW trip, we went last Oct. She chose a Disney Cruise and it was awesome! We met Captin Mickey and saw so many characters around the ship. Enough for now but will add you to my list and check on you every day or so,. Take care and God bless!

Hi Mitch and Family, thank you for signing our son's page. Congrats on the Make-a-wish trip. They make it all wonderful. We went to Disney World and stayed at "Give Kids the World" which is a village set up for families with kids with serious illnesses. It was great. We hope the chemo goes well and doesn't make you feel too yuck. Gage is enjoying all the great Spongebob things he got for his birthday. I bet you will get to meet Spongebob and friends if your mom mentions this to the make-a-wish! God Bless!

Dear Mitch,

My name is Lisa and I was diagonosed with Leukemia when I was 15 years old. I went through alot of chemo and hospitalizations. I remember having the same anxiety about returning to school. The administrative staff, teachers and students welcomed me with open arms and hearts. The made sure all of my needs were met and I participating in only the things I felt comfortable with. I am confident you will experience the same response. I am now 40 years old, married and have three children. Looking back on this tradegic time of my life, I can clearly see how God used this experience to grow me in my faith and character. I learned so many valuable lessons in regards to life. I can truly say my illness had many hidden blessings and changed me forever. God has allowed me to use my illness and recovery to help others in similar situations. I have met so many wonderful families and kids. I cherish the oppportunities I have been given to provide hope and support to so many people. Hang in there and keep a positive attitude. It makes all the difference in the world. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

What a great wish,we're going to disneyworld in may, we've never been before & are all sooo excited! Good luck when you see your counsellor, we all cried everytime we went because sometimes it's hard to talk about things, but it made us all feel better & was DEFINATLY worth going. Now I know where to find you I'll be back again soon.

Dear Paula and family, I just read your journal entries and Matthew's story. I am so glad he's doing better! How's the diet? Are you getting to eat everything you want, Matthew? When Liam had steroids, he got so obese, we had to limit his food somewhat, and here was this other little boy, getting to eat Chicken nuggets, french fries and ice cream all day long! Speach is improving. That's good, now you can tell your folks all that yummy stuff you want to eat. We had trouble understanding Liam's words for a while too. It's frustrating, huh? Well, enjoy the rest of your summer. I hope you enjoy school. And don't worry about the other kids. They may just be jeaolous because they don't have an awesome web page and a cool scar on their heads. 'Course I'm sure you'd rather be without all that, and just go back to 'normal', right? We'll be thinking about you all, and praying for that 100% recovery!

Hello Mitch and Mom, good to read your site and see your pictures...followed from the BT list. When Liz wont eat enough we give her scandi shake, a high calorie shake that a nutritionist can get for you...mix with Ice cream, or instant breakfast and drink hot, it is good and about 600 calories! Hang in there, it sounds like you are strong and doing great. school will work out, and the rough times will just be history soon.....always,

Mitch,

I have a son, Matthew, who also has a "lump" in his head. Matthew is also 9 years old (he will be 10 in September).

School is not one of Matthew's favorite things....he has to work harder than others....but he did really well this past year as I'm sure you will, too.

Matthew loves video games and collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

We will pray for your healing.

There are a million trillion reasons to stay positive...and from what I can tell, one of the biggest ones is your family.
This is a challenge that not very many kids have to face, but from caringbridge sites I have learned those that do are usually the coolest to begin with, and even cooler when they overcome it!
I can tell from the journal, the postings and the pictures, that you fit the description!!!

Hello Mitch, I'm sorry you are going through such a time with your ailment, but I am also awed at how special you are in that YOU have brought so many people to the throne of God by praying for you! /So often we get caught up in our own problems that we fail to Pray for others. What a priviledge you have given me. I Pray that God will touch you with His healing Power, that He will give you and your family strength to endure and that He will be with the doctors, nurses, lab techs, scientist and all who are working to aid God in your healing. Have you realized that the word "cancer" has the word "CAN" in it? And YOU CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Keep up the good work of getting well soon.

Hi Mitch, It was great to read your story and see your picture. My son Jake is 16 years old and had a brain tumor removed in Feb.03 (medulloblastoma) He also has PFS. Jake is just starting to speak well enough for us to understand and can now sit up unassisted for about three minutes. He has a gast. tube but eats food by mouth too. He had radiation and is now doing chemo. (Cisplatin and Etopocid at this time. He is also on the rehab floor getting concentrated PT,OT, and Speech. I'm sure your Mom will tell you how much it helps parents to know there are other kids and parents going thru the same experience.. Jake, his Dad, and I wish you the best sucess.

Hi,Mitch
Your story came to my church's e-mail prayer tree so lots and lots of people are praying for you. I bet you never thought you'd be this famous, huh? Isn't it great to know that people who never even met you are asking God to take especially good care of you? I really liked the picture of you and your dad and your brother in the lake. That looked like fun. My son is 18 and he loves to jump into rivers or lakes or the ocean. I hope you get to do lots more fun things this summer. Hang in there and hug your mom every day.

What a special boy you are! We are adopting a baby boy as soon as he is born. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks. As I read about you I pray for you and I pray that my son will be as brave and as special as you are. God allows nothing to happen without reason. The reasons are not always clear, but God's love for us is clear! Keep focused on that as hundreds of people are praying for you!

Wow Mitch, how blessed you are to have affected so many lives and have so many prayers lifting to our Father in Heaven on your behalf! The Burnetts, one of our clients, let us know of your trials. What a battle you and your family are fighting together! Can you see how precious your life is to your family, both biological and spiritual? My own children, ages 9 and 11, are praying for you too. We wanted to remind you to trust in God who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think (Eph 3:20) and remember that His ways are not our ways. God has a plan for your life. James (5:11) says that we count those blessed who endured. That we have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. And Job, through his trials, not only heard about God but came to "see" God in a very personal way (Job 42:5). May your faith and belief in Jesus Christ increase a thousand times during this painful time in your life. You are loved precious one! Continue to fight the good fight and keep your eyes focused on Jesus!

Hi Mitch! I found the link to your web page in Zachary Finestone's guestbook. When I saw that you live in Vancouver I had to visit. I lived in Vancouver for almost 20 years and now live in Richland, WA. I went to youth group at Crossroads Community Church and then taught at Riverview Elem. before moving here almost 8 years ago. My youngest son, Aidan, is almost done with 3 years of chemo for ALL. He is 4 1/2 years old. His brother, Andrew, is 7. I will add you to my prayer list, and will check in again soon.

Hi Mitch,

You don't know me, but I wanted to email you to let you know that I was thinking about you and praying for you and your family. Ms. Barbara Cox forwarded me an email about you.
As an 8 year old, it must be tough trying to understand all that is happening to you. You might even be a little scared. I am over in Iraq now and I get scared sometimes, too. But, like me, if you have faith and know that God has a mission for you, and that he'll take care of you, you won't have to be afraid anymore.
I will keep checking in on you, soldier. Keep your chin up. That's an order!

Mitch, stand strong through things that are happening now. I am almost 8 years old and I go to Crossroads and have lived in Portland for about 2 months and have had a lot of tough times and struggles. My Dad is not in my life and it's been that way most of my life and I still feel a empty spot because of that. God can do anything. God has already changed things for the better in my life, I have a step dad who is very nice and is a Christian and I will be praying that God will take care of things for you. Love, Callie

Mitch: We admire your bravery for facing this life circumstance head on. Remember that God knows our needs before we ever do and that He will take care of you no matter what. We'll be praying for healing so that you can get back to doing what you want to do instead of what you have to do. Keep up the good work, we're very proud of you.

Mitch - we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. My daughter Victoria (17) has had surgeries for three GBMs since October, is on her 38th radiation treatment today and gets chemo very day. She, like you, looks like a million bucks. I expect both of you to get well, and do something good with the rest of your life. The pursuit of life is a day-by-day endeavor. Vic has shown us how to live it and it has made a wonderful improvement in life for all of us. She is "stomping on the terra" every day, be sure you do the same!
