First I must say how inspiring your story is and God Bless you Katie! My 3 year old lil boy is here at Childrens Hospital of Philly and he has a brain tumor. We were ignorant to the fact of how cancer affects so many children and how much support it needs! You took an awesome task and did a wonderful thing, hope my son Christopher can do something for others too! God bless you Katie and your parents and all children!
The cookbook was an excellent idea which I hope to purchase and hope the entire food network donates more to you!

Hi there. I am glad Katie is better. I have a very similar story as my son was diagnosed with leukemia in Dec. 08. He was 15. He is 16 now and was not lucky enough to be an early responder and had a stem cell transplant on June 4th. As I am writing this we are at Sloan in NYC getting antibiotics. He is doing much better but it was a tough year. Hope all is well and thanks for sharing. Feel free to email me back. Thanks and God Bless.

Hi my daughter Surina was diagnosed with Pre B cell Leukemia in march of o5 and when I read how many times you kept taking her to the doctor and how many times the stupied Doctors gave you the go around it makes me remember all I went through. the same mess of trying to convince our ped and er doctors and ear, nose and throat doctor something was wrong with her. one er doctor saw the Peticia on her body and said she must have drawn on her self and another doctor told me its parents like me that waste time of the doctors when there are kids that are really sick that im taking there time. unfortunately my daughter is in bad health and the doctor seem to thing she might be relapsing and ive seen 7 doctors (including Er at three different hospitals) trying to get answers instead of having to wait it out and let her suffer and the pain in her legs and head get worse, she has since lost her big appetite and is tired alot it hurts me and her dad to see her like this. may God be with u and ur family

Very nice website and I plan to buy a couple of the shirt's Cancer Sucks and Chemo Brain. I am 31 w/ stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to stomach and both lungs. Was diagnoised 2yrs in May and all was going great we thought until our lives stopped last week after a three month break from chemo and the nodules in my lungs had doubled in size, so back to sqaure one w/ chemo treatments and "life on chemo". I don't regret the three month break as I felt great, but it has been tough to get my mind back into chemo again. It is clothes and keeping spirits high that gets us all through this... I wish you lot's of luck and all those that like both of us will base most of there lives of scans and Dr. appointments for many years to come. There is a cure out there and they will find it hopefully sooner than later.

Hi Katie and family,
I found your site off the ALL-Kids list. As I read your story it hit home because I also received news that my son had ALL at the CHOP ER early in the morning. Our lives changed, like yours, in that same room hearing our child had cancer. My son Jake, now 5, finished his 3 year treatment this Sept. (PRAISE GOD). We wish you continued remission and great sucess at advocating childhood cancer. You are amazing. Keep up the good work!

Katie,
I read your story in the Woman's World Magazine and was very inspired. I love children and think it is a wonderful thing that you have done with the cookbook. I just received my cookbook this morning and I had to stop what I was doing and look at each and every recipe. It is a beautiful cookbook and I can't wait to try some of the recipes. I am also going to get cookbooks for my mom, sister and my Aunt Donna who has been battling cancer for seven years. She just recently had surgery to remove a tumor in her head which was attached to her skull. She is getting better every day and I just hope and pray that she is with us for a little bit more time.

Congratulations for 2 years of cancer free life.

I read your story in Women's World Magazine while i was out of town taking my daughter Miranda to Ar. Childrens Hospital where she was diagnosed with ALL in 2001, she turned 14 11 days after the diagnoses. she still goes to the hospital every 6 months for check ups, she is doing great, she will be turning 20 next month, But when i read your story I couldn't believe what I was reading because it sounded just like my daughter, she too loved the Cooking Shows, The Nurses would come into her room while she was getting Chemo and say I can't believe that someone whose is nauseous and can't eat would be watching Food Network! Till this day the Doctors and Nurses still remember her for the Food Network. She stood in line for 4 hrs. to get Paula Deen to sign one of her cookbooks, she loves cookbooks and has a ton of them.
I applaud you for what you are doing and i will be buying a cookbook, I would really love it if you would sign it for her (if it is not possible i understand) I am getting it for her birthday as a surprise. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Dear Katie,
I read your story in the Woman's World magazine and was very touched by what you have been through and what you are doing to help other children. My grandson, Matthew, who is 3 years old, was diagnosed with ALL last October. He is doing well and now he is in the middle of his delayed intensification phase. Today was his 29th day and he was to have a spinal tap and the 3 chemos that he would receive only once during the entire course of his treatment but because his counts were too low he was not able to receive any treatments today. So he will try again next Tuesday. By reading your story it has given me lots of hope and inspiration that Matthew will have a full recovery in 3 years. I will continue to read your website as Matthew has his website through CaringBridge. I am ordering 2 of your cookbooks today - one for me and one for Matthew's mother. Take care and may God watch over you always, Barbara Daly

After reading your story in Woman's World this week, I am not surprised that someone with such a positive attitude, even at your young age, would be a survivor. Hi Katie- You are an amazing child and I am just so touched by your story. As a survivor of childhood cancer I know what a long journey you've been through. I am now 31 years old and have two beautiful daughters of my own. Just two weeks ago my (soon to be)3 year old daughter was also diagnosed with leukemia. Her journey is just beginning, but like your mom, I am confident that she will be just fine!
You and your mom are quite an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your story. Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary. You are one amazing girl!

Hi Katie,
God bless you on your second anniversary. I saw your cookbook at CHOP and wanted to get copies for myself and my son's Godmothers, but kept putting it off, then I bought this weeks copy of Women's World and there you are!! You have spoken to me in such a way. I have two sons and pray everyday that they will be as courageous and brave as you in all that they do. You are an inspiration. I know that your story has been sent to me from heaven. God bless you and your family and thank you.

Hi Katie.........I read your story in Womans World magazine and am very touched by your courage and your caring about other kids with cancer. My daughter Kimberly was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 7 yrs. old......she is now 32yrs. old with two daughters of her own. I know with your positive and caring attitude and the love from your family you too will grow up to be a beautiful woman. Thank you for making this cookbook so other children can benefit from the research it will be able to bring. Congratulations on your survivorship.......I will always keep you in my prayers.

In December 2005, our youngest grandaughter Julia was diagnosed with A.L.L. at CHOP. It opened a whole new world for us.
After 3 weeks of intense chemo, Julia came home.

Julia and her Mom (Rachael, our youngest daughter) live with us and we gathered our family together and along with our church family we prayed Julia and Rachael through the long ordeal.

Julia turned 3 in July and also began her 'maintenance' protocol the week of her birthday.

She is doing wonderfully...her hair is growing back (it went from dark brown to ash blonde)

We are so grateful to to GOD, to CHOP, and to our church family, neighborhood family and the Becht and Dougherty families.

What Cancer Cannot Do...

Cancer is so limited.
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot erode faith.
It cannot destroy peace.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot suppress memories.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot erode the spirit.
It cannot conquer the soul.

Happy 5th Birthday, Katie. I can think of 5 great reasons to wish you a happy birthday even if you had to spend it in the hospital. 1. You're a cutie with a GREAT smile - seeing it in your picture is better to me than having 5 ice cream cones. 2. You are such a great artist - your flower on the Katie's Cure site is 5x better than my flower drawings! 3. You are 5x more brave than I think I've ever had to be or ever could be. I'd be a grumpy, whiny person EVERY day if I had leukemia. 4. You must be 5x more smart than a lot of us - maybe you had a plan to spend your birthday in the hospital and then extend your birthday extra days. You didn't PLAN it that way, did you? You could really use that smart noggin to plan cool things, couldn't you? 5. You're 5 - what an excellent age to be!! You probably already knew that and have been looking forward to it, huh? A 5-year old is a big girl age!

I hope your birthday is happy in spite of being in the hospital and that every day of your 5th year brings new blessings!

Hi Katie,

It's Miss Moureen! I was checking out the pictures on your site and LOVE the new playhouse. My favorite color is purple and my back door at my house is painted purple, just like the door on your playhouse - pretty cool! I know that you will have so much fun at school and will meet so many new friends. I bet there will be a kitchen area for you to play in - I used to love when you and your friends would pretend to make me tea in the kitchen in our classroom! Have FUN at your school - you will be the smartest girl in your class!

Hugs and kisses,
XO

Hello, i was watching a couple of new records being set at the Olympics today, so thought i would look up some slightly stranger ones instead of some jokes.

Here's a couple;

Most spoons balanced on the face
Tim Johnston (USA) (b. 1 January 1992), was able to balance on his face (one on each ear, two on each cheek, three on his chin, two on his lips, one on his nose and three on his forehead) and balance them for 30 seconds at on May 28, 2004.

British pub landlord Garry Turner clipped 153 ordinary wooden clothes pegs on his face at the WH Smith bookshop in York, Yorkshire, UK, on September 28, 2002

This is the first that I have seen Kate's site. I LOVE the picture....she is a cutie pie. I wanted to chime in on the hair loss issue. My Amanda who started LTM in July also has lost her hair during LTM. It starts coming in, thinnly, and then it comes out again. Being a 13 year old, she is very frustrated with it. Her onc says this happens sometimes, but not often...her hair is "just sensitive to the chemo". Anyway, just thought I would let you know. (((HUGS))) and kisses to Kate.

Hi -

Sorry to hear you are going through the evil Dex pulse. We hate those in our house. Personally I think the side effects of Dex are worse than any of the other drug - except maybe Vincristine. We are thankful on our protocol that our Katie only gets them every 16 weeks in LTM.

Oh -one of the side effects of Zofran is constipation so that may be causing some of your Katie's problems too.

Katelyn is so beautiful - I would love hair that colour.
