Jay is a great inspiration to me. Even after finding out her illness she still showed a great deal of strength, courage and love I know GOD is going to bring her through this and she is going to be a great testimony to someone. Hey Jaeleah this is your cousin/godmother Jene'. I just want to say that I love you so much. This has been a long journey for all of us. Crystal, I remember being at the hospital with you and Jaeleah before her diagnosis. We (YOU AND I) pushed her so hard to get out of the bed and walk. Your mom would come in and say "It's O.K. Jaeleah, you don't have to walk if you don't want to", and the two of us would wait until she walked out and we would look at each other and say "That lady is crazy, she has Jaeleah too spoiled." I can look back and laugh at that now because it just goes to show you how much knowledge our elders have even when us young people think that we know so much. The following day when Jaeleah had her biopsy and the results came in, I remember being with you and talking about it. You were so strong. Your exact words to me was "Jaeleah may have leukemia and we have to leave for St. Jude tommorrow." You did not even blink and I immediately just broke into pieces because I knew how serious it was. I tried to stay strong because I knew that I had to for you, but now I can honestly say that it was a struggle for me. I remember our dumb conversation... "Girl you are probably going to go to Memphis and find you a rich husband and while your're at it, find me one too!" We laughed so much that day. The only thing was that in the back of my mind I knew that you and Jaeleah had a long road ahead of you. I have never been so scared before in my life. The day that you two got on the airplane and I saw Jaeleah sitting by the window and her eyes were so bright because she was traveling on an airplane, I just couldn't take it anymore. It was starting to wear down on me because I knew that she didn't know neither did she understand what she was about to go through. You and I just held each other tight and we broke down and cried. I had never in my life felt that way before. Amyria and I said a prayer for the two of you every night. It took forever for us to come and visit you and I never told you, but it was because I still didn't understand why our family had to go through this. I guess that in a way I was just being selfish. I finally built enough strength to come and see yall for Christmas and I was so happy that I did. I remember it like it was yesterday. Although we talked on the telephone just about everyday I didn't know what to expect. But when we arrived, Jaeleah was standing at the door waiting for us and she was as happy as ever. She was beautiful, and she had so much energy that she was making me tired. Your could not even tell that she was sick. Crystal that is when it all came to me. All of my questions were answered. God knew how strong Jaeleah was and that is why she was chosen to fight this battle. She has grown up to be such a mature girl. She is so talented. She is a star in my book because with all that she has gone through she still shines so brightly. I love her with all of my heart. She is truly a blessing, an angel sent from heaven and I know that you would not trade her for anything. When it was time for us to leave Memphis, Amyria cried for almost an hour. She did not want to leave Jaeleah. She loves her so much. Jaeleah told her a secret before she left and Amyria still hasn't told me what the secret is. Although they are so young their relationship/friendship is so important and so unique. Jaeleah has made a dramatic difference in my life. She has taught me so much and she doesn't even know it. Our family has truly been blessed with her. I have faith and I know that God is going to pick us up and carry us over this mountain. He has used Jaeleah to teach our whole family so much. Jaeleah you are truly an angel and you are going to be a true success. You are courageous! I love you and my prayer is just one of thousands of prayers that is going up to God everyday. WE LOVE YOU!
