Merry Christmas To All!

Dear Sherry,

Ryan was remembered at Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning. I hope this note finds you and all of your family well.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Ryan, Aunt Barb always thinks of you and talks about you where I work. I love to tell people how brave you were and what an awesome little boy you had become! Now you are a young man and I still miss you, but I know you are in a good place. I am sending you a big kiss and I hope you can feel it! KISS!!!!!!!!

I am making this entry today to let everyone know there is one more child who has been stricken with cancer. Five years ago she was diagnosed with cancer but for the past few years has been cancer free. However, at this time the cancer has come back and there doesn't seem to be much hope. She is 11 years old and goes to the Bowling Green School at Bowling Green, Mo. Her name is Addi Lucas. Her mother Wendie works at NECC (Northeast Correctional Center) where I work. I am asking everyone at this time to drop a line of encouragement to her mother and to Addi, her caringbridge address is: Caringbridge.org/visit/addilucas. Please drop them a line and offer prayers to our God in Heaven for this child and her family. As you all know, Ryan would be 11 years old this June. This little girl is 11 years old now. My heart goes out to her mother and other relatives and friends having already been in this dreadful situation before.

Today 200 balloons were sent to you for your birthday party in heaven. The flower shop lady (Ms. Natalie) said she sold 200 balloons today and I am sure they were all for you. Ginny and Susie were there to send balloons your way. Linda was there. Chrisie and Brenda was there. Tina and Karla was there. Of course Uncle Greg and Shelby along with Aunt Kathy, Grandma Sloan and Mema and Papa were there. Please be sure to read the messages that were written on the balloons, words of love and messages of how much we miss you. You will never and I mean never be forgotten as long as I live. My heart aches but I know that one day I will have the privilege of seeing you greet me when I share that place in heaven with you. Continue to look down on us and continue to guard us as you have over the last five years. Have fun and may God continue to bless us with the memory of you. Lots of hugs, kisses and love I am sending your way.

I hope that you both know that we love and miss Ryan so much. We all have our feelings of loss but we recognize that your loss has been so much greater than ours. He was so special to our entire family and so many people. I would never trade the memories we made with him during his short life. He taught us so much about love and strength and the reality of Heaven and what is to come that at least our hearts can be comforted knowing we will be able to be with him one day forever. His toothy smile, big blue eyes and vibrant personality will live in our hearts forever. We love you and continue to pray for comfort for our entire family. We will be releasing those red and yellow balloons on the 29th and sending him our love.
Love you guys

Most of you will remember that several years ago we started a Relay for Life Team in honor of our Ryan. We name the team Ryan's Beelievers. On Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21st we are having a Bowl-a-Thon at Twin City Bowl in Louisiana, Missouri. The times to bowl are 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Teams can be three to five people and the price is $10.00 per person. If anyone from this area would like to participate or to make a donation to Relay for Life, I can be contacted at 636-295-7795 (cell). There are three other numbers that you can contact if you don't reach me. They are: Kathy Waite, Ryan's Aunt - 573-754-6837, Neil Darnell, Ryan's Uncle - 573-324-3711 and the Twin City Bowl - 573-754-4280 (evenings). We have been planning a balloon release that weekend also if possible.

Andrea,
I haven't checked Ryan's page in some time. His was one of the first Caringbridge pages I got "addicted" to in 2004 when a child from my church, Elijah, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I became familiar with the Caringbridge family. I cannot believe almost 4 years have passed since Ryan earned his angel wings. I remember picking out a card to send him on his 5th birthday. I knew that you didn't know me, but I was trying at the time to send cards to Caringbridge kids as a way to honor the memory of our little Elijah from church.

How wonderful to hear about your classes and will pray that you make it to your goal~~my own daughter will finish her first year of nursing school this year and I know it's tough when you have a husband and family! Just wanted to let you know that God brought your family to my mind today.

Today's Collect:

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

+++

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains which he endured, Alleluia!
our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
now above the sky he's King, Alleluia!
where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
praise eternal as his love, Alleluia!
praise him, all ye heavenly host, Alleluia!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia!

O Sorrow Deep!

O sorrow deep! Who would not weep
with heartfelt pain and sighing!
God the Father's only Son
in the tomb is lying.

The Paschal Lamb, like Isaac's ram,
in blood was offered for us,
pouring out the life that he
might to life restore us.

Blest shall they be eternally
who ponder in their weeping
that the glorious Prince of Life
should in death be sleeping.

O Jesus blest, my help and rest,
who tears I pray thee, hear me:
now, and even unto death,
dearest Lord, be near me.

Ryan's site was one of the first caringbridge sites I started following. I sure don't blame you on the 5 year thing. The future is scary and more scary for someone who has been through what your family has. Somethings just aren't fair. I tell my husband often that we should thank God for our good health because it can change quickly. I think I appreciate life more since I've started following some sites.

I enjoyed the new pictures you put up and boy does he look like Ryan. I know that you miss him terribly. I pray for you and anyone that has had to bury a child.

It has been a long time since the day in March that turned our world upside down. Normal became a new normal and then that changed to another new normal. I want the old normal back. I don't want to look at the calendar and think, "This is the day that we received the diagnosis. Or, four years ago today we were going through this or that." I want it to be the way it was before the first new normal. Don't get me wrong, I still want the additions to the family - Bess, Ashton, Luke, and Coen - but I want normal back. I guess if I ever wrote my memoirs I could title them, "Looking for Normal." Loveyoumissyouseeyoulater.

Hello to the Brown Family. I was just thinking about you and your family and thought I'd say hi. Hope all is well with your family. I try to keep up with the site but don't get to sign the guestbook as often as I'd like. It's not because I don't think about you guys. I just lost my twin brother to the big C and I feel like a piece of me died with him. I tell myself he is in a much better place and is not longer suffering. Doesn't help a lot but you would definitely know where I'm coming from. I did get that grandbaby. Had a little girl named Audrey. She is a cutie and will be baptised Sunday. God bless and keep you today and through the new year.

Happy Labor Day Weekend To All!

Dear Brown,

Your buddy, Ryan, will be remembered, in Holy Eucharist, this weekend.

This Labor Day Weekend, our family thinks of all of our military personnel, our police and fire fighters, our teachers and farmers, our doctors and dentists, and all who work nobly for the public good and the independence and prosperity of their families. This, of course, includes Phillip. May God bless them all.

I am glad to read of Molly. I am sure Elizabeth and Lucas are enjoying their dog.

May God nourish you with all good things, especially hope.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

The Collect:

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Ryan's family,
Just took your poem "Ask My Mom How She Is" for my sister-in-law. We lost our niece to bone cancer last week. She was a yong mother with two small boys, close to Ryan's age. No matter the age, it is still hard to let go. Her Mom tells me all the time she is OK, when I know she is not. This poem says it all. I have tears im my eyes and in my heart for your loss and for all those who suffer from that beast of a cancer.

Hi guys.
Just wanted to drop you a note to say hello and that I think about your family so much..I always remember you and the family in prayer.
I'm sure the babies are growing up quickly. I'm going to be grandma once again. Our 40 year old son is going to be Daddy again. Surprise! You might remember Sarah from channel 7 news. This will be their 4th. I told him they might luck out and have twins once again this time boys. Rich didn't think that was funny.
Hope you are all doing well. Give the little guys a big hug from me . I think about Ryan so much. I'm sure he is watching down on all of us. Take care.

God will continue to help you through all the good and bad days. I hope Ryan and Becca are playing together and making each other laugh. Hey Guys! Praise God that Phillip is home. I am sorry for the circumstances that sent him back, but I am glad he will be able to spend time with the family. I have been thinking about you guys a lot lately. I've tried to call but I guess you all are spending all the time you can together and I understand that. I know the next few weeks will be difficult since our little buddies birthday is approaching. I saw him twice the other day when I was out watering the flowers. The bee just seemed to follow me around. We got back home last Friday from St. Louis. Scooter is doing better each day. The pain hasn't been as bad this time but we are still working on managing it. The hospital we were at is rennovating their pediatric department. Scooter was the first person in the room she was placed in. St. John's was a wonderful hosptial. I really like our new doctor, David Anderson and I think he will do all he can to help Scooter walk better. I love the new pictures. You all have beautiful smiles. If you would ilke to be a part of the Ryan's Beelievers Relay for Life team, please contact me and I will give you the details. Also, for every luminaria we sell before August we receive a bouns point. The luminaria ceremony is very moving. The luminaria are in honor of or in memory of anyone you would like. If you have a loved one that is a survivor, is in the middle of the fight, or has earned their angel wings - you can purchase a luminaria in their name. If you are in another state and would like to hear it when their name is read in Pike County, Missouri, I will call you when they read the name. Or, we will try to do a video and send you a copy. It is for a great cause. Have a good summer. God Bless you all.

Just wanted to check in and remind you that the prayers and love are still flowing your way! I had the pleasure of going to Bowling Green on a business trip this week and couldn't resist a trip to visit with Ryan. Meme sent a kiss with me to give him, which I did ( I actually left him more than just one, I tried to stock him up on them while I was there!). I wondered what the earthquake looked like from where he was and asked him, but the only response I got from all my rambling to him was rained on! So I guess he was to busy playing soccer in Heaven to talk to me; knocking all the water out of the clouds? I told him to get all the games in he could now, because when the rest of us get to go Home and be with him he's going to be entirely to busy being tour guide! Maybe it was the wind, but I think I heard his laugh!
Can't wait for the relay! I will get my walking shoes broke in in the Komen and Crohn's walks, Nana and Meme, are you in for both this year(I learned a secret at last years Komen, you don't actually have to walk the whole thing to get the goodies! LOL)?
Much love from Earthquake central!

Dear Brown Family,

I am thinking of you this morning, knowing that your connection with this day is strong, because of the suffering you have known with Ryan's illness. May God bless you all.

I enjoyed Nana Sherry's update of March 17. It is good to know that Elizabeth is doing so well and that she had so much fun with her grandmother.

I am pausing, here, at my keyboard, for a minute, to pray for Phillip, as he continues to serve our country, so far from home.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

I had the STRANGEST encounter yesterday.........
whew.

Remember our little 'Kaidrie'.........I was
shopping in a Target close to my house that
I do not frequent. Looking in the girls dept....
looked up and was looking right at her!!! I
knew that I 'knew' her, but wasn't sure from
where........with 2 kids and their activities
that seems to happen a lot........BUT then
some other kid hollered, "Hey Abbie"...and
it all clicked. I about passed out on the
scene. The kids were with their REAL mother...
not the phony who ran the website. It was
wierd...................and of course I
thought of you and Ryan. When I told Devin
and Kara he wanted to track them down and
beat them up..............I explained to him
that the kids (and probably the mom) had NO
IDEA that they were part of the scam......but
it still made us all very mad....AGAin....to
think and remember what had been done.

Even wierder was that when we got ready to check
out they ran into people they knew in the store..
which makes me wonder if they actually live
close to me????????????? Poor kids. I had
like a million questions............still
unanswered, of course.........

Whew........

I love Christmas music. One of my favorite carols
is Silent Night, and especially the verse that
invites us to sing with the angels!

'Silent night, holy night,
wondrous star, lend thy light;
With the angels let us sing
Alleluia to our King.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!'

Wishing you a blessed Christmas
filled with angelic singing!

Dearest Brown Family,
I just wanted to take some time during this busy season to let you know you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I know this is a difficult time for you for two reasons 1: because our dear Ryan is watching from heaven and 2: becasue Phillip is not here to spend the holidays. I just sent him a box of car magazines today. I didn't know whether he was a car nut like Ray but I figured it might help pass the time. I also told him to pass them on to some others. I sent him an email today too. I was sorry to hear of the passing of your loved one. I know Ryan is glad to have her in heaven with him. I'm glad you are with family during the holidays. I got my picture in the mail the other day and the family is just so beautiful. I can't believe how big Lucas has grown. Elizabeth has always been a little cutie. It has been way too long since we have seen one another. I love you guys and hope you enjoy your time at home. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hi Andrea
We sent Phillip a big box of
items from his list. Sue, my Friendly
Post Office Worker, said that Monday was
the deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery.
so, I think we'll wait until 2008 to send another box.

It's been fun having Sissy in school. Friday she finished
making her Hungry Caterpillar t-shirt. it was a 3 day
project! She'll take it home on Monday after I get pictures
of all the kiddos.

Hi Andrea
Today the kids made turkey handprints
on boards cut from a tree trunk. Elizabeth
strung beads on the wire hanger...very cute!
Friday we are going to make pecan pies for
the church's Bake Sale. We were going to make
cookies, too, for Phillip, but Mrs. Guthrie decided it
would be easier if she made the cookies at home because
the dough has to be refrigerated, and is sorta sticky. So,
we'll just have Sissy put some cookies in the tin for her Daddy
and his friends.

hi Andrea
We had a super morning in preschool today.
E. arrived as we were having our Show & Tell...
Mary's chocolate lab puppy named Shelbie.
Shelbie just laid on the floor right next to all
the kids...very cute!
We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar because
Eric Carle is our featured writer/artist. The children
made sock caterpillars, and sponge painted the first
coat of the Hungry Caterpillar on t-shirts that I bought
in Utah with Alisa two years ago. Went outside until we
heard thunder, and then came back in and headed to
the "gym" (big room which was actually the old sanctuary)>
Sissy was adorable, and fit in right away!

Dear Brown Family,

On a day when the church celebrates healing, I am thinking of Ryan, knowing he is with the healed, in heaven. His courage, zest for life, and love, are active in God's eternal kingdom.

God bless you both, and God bless all of Ryan's many loved ones, friends, and supporters.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

An Appropriate Hymn:

By all your saints still striving,
for all your saints at rest,
your holy Name, O Jesus
for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious,
that we might wear the crown
and ever shine in splendor
reflected from your throne.

For Luke, beloved physician,
all praise, whose Gospel shows
the healer of the nations,
the one who shares our woes.
Your wine and oil, O Savior,
upon our spirits pour,
and with true balm of Gilead
anoint us evermore.

Then let us praise the Father
and worship God the Son
and sing to God the Spirit,
eternal Three in One,
till all the ransomed number
who stand before the throne
ascribe all power and glory
and praise to God alone.

The Collect:

Almighty God, who inspired your servant Luke the physician to Declare in the Gospel the love and healing power of your Son: Graciously continue in your Church the same love and power to heal, to the praise and glory of your Name; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Just sitting here thinking about Ryan..... about how one little boy has changed my life so much.......and how I need to cherish each and every moment I have, and give praise to God for all my many Blessings. Sometimes I just get caught up in all the day to day stuff that I forget to just stop and give thanks to God for everything. Thank you, RYAN for the sacrifice you made to help others, like me, remember to count our blessings, and to put all the day to day stuff aside and allow Jesus to be at the top of all our daily lists....

Hey Guys,
Sorry for the long delay between journal entries. The favorites disappeared from my computer at work and I kept forgetting to look at home for the address. I now have it back on the work computer. Things are moving right along for me. Scooter has been down for a few days with sinus problems, but she is on the road to recovery. Her eyes are healing and we should be back in glasses or contacts soon. She has decided glasses are too much trouble and she wants contacts. The doctor said she had to have both. She is changing more each day right in front of my eyes. I wish I had a magic wand to change her back into a little girl. I hope Elizabeth has recovered from her surgery. Luckily Scooter did not have to go through that surgery. I can't believe Lucas is walking. I miss you guys and think of you so often. I talk to our little buddy everyday when I come in and see his garden. The visit to St. Louis was good. Scooter will be going there to see an orhtopedic doctor in the future. He was recommended by the neurologist we saw at Children's. We enjoyed the time we were there and think we will go back just to shop soon. Guess I'd better. I love you guys and miss you all.

Is ice cream still the food of choice after surgery?

I have several prayers that I found on a search
for Prayers for Chaplains in the Military.
here is Pope John Paul II's Prayer for Peace:

"Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace,
who are yourself our peace and reconciliation,
who so often said "Peace to you", grant us peace.
Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice,
and brotherly love. Banish from their hearts whatever
might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they
may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. May
all peoples on earth become as brother and sisters.
May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always
over us all."
Amen

Hello Friends,
I have been thinking about you all week. I know this has been a difficult time for you and you did such a terrific job explaining your feelings. For someone who has never lost a child it is so hard to understand what an individual is experiencing, but for one who has it is very clear. I look at Becca's picture's or videos and see her and wonder where the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday that she was here with us. I have the same feelings with Ryan. When I saw the pictures of him on the poster for the Poker Run it just didn't seem real that he was not here with us. I miss him so much too. I love you guys and keep saying we are going to get together. I took Scooter to the doctor last week for her annual ortho and eye appointment. We received some bad news from the eye doctor, her retina was detaching from her right eye. She had this problem at birth due to her prematurity and sometimes it detaches again years later. We are scheduled for surgery on Monday. Needless to say we were both shocked. Please keep her in your prayers. Some great news to report is that Scooter accepted Christ as her Savior. She plans to get bapitized after her Dad comes home in December. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers and always in my heart. We love you all.

Thank you so much for the update. Wow! You all have been very busy. I understand that you are going through a rough time right now. Be sure to take a step back every once in a while and look at where you are and where you've been. You and Phillip should be very proud of how you have handled the stress of the last 3 years. Yes, things are tough and they are probably going to get worse before they get better. But, continue to hang in there. You are strong. You will work through it =)

Wow, two years. Two years may not seem like a long time when you are talking about how long you will be in school or how long it will take to pay off your car, but two years since you have seen, held, or kissed your child or grandchild. It seems like a lifetime to me so I can only imagine it seems like two lifetimes to Andrea and Phillip. In two years, Phillip has been deployed to Iraq and returned home safely. In two years, our family has been blessed with the birth of Ashton Ryan, Lucas Matthew, and the eagerly anticipated arrival of Coen Ray (due any day). We still use his name on a daily basis, after all we have Ashton and Elizabeth. We remember the things Ryan did and laugh, followed by tears because we miss his antics so much. Ryan coined a few phrases that our family will always use and I am sure will be passed down. "I was trickin' on you." "I AM NOT TRABBY." His ever famous "earhead". So much life packed into such a short time. Thank you for being with us and supporting us as we remember our angel. Ryan Douglas Brown * June 29, 2000 - July 10, 2005 * FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.

Two years ago today I met the Ross

We were at Sheila's house when Alisa
found out that your precious Ryan

and he sat on the couch with Grandma Gwen's
arms wrapped around him for a VERY long time.

Remembering you and Ryan's Missouri family

Happy Birthday Ryan. I guess Troy and Ryan are celebrating their 7th birthdays together.

I was sitting on a bench yesterday waiting for my car to be repaired, and I was thinking about what Troy would be like sitting next to me. His legs would probably touch the ground by now. How big would he be? What would we be talking about? How would the conversations change from that of a little boy? (sigh)

Just a quick note to let you know I have not forgotten about you, your family. I have not forgotten about Ryan! I know that it is probably a bit strange for most to understand that I think about a little guy and a family that I have never met but since first reading Ryan's story...I have not been able to let go or stop thinking of him or you, and your family. And no, I"m not nuts...! And sorry it has been awhile since I last posted a message. Hope all is well and I hope you are out of the hospital soon and recoverying well. Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs

Hey Guys! Sorry I haven't been better with emailing or signing the guestbook. As you know we also have recently moved. The girls rooms are completed for the most part with the exception of minor touch-ups and curtains in Lindsie's room. Logan's room is the next to tackle. We bought him a digital camo comforter set and we are going to put Army things on the wall. No matter how hard I try for it not to be the ARMY is our life! Perry is gone this week and will be off and on until July. And then as you know back to the WONDERFUL Sandbox once again. Been there done that doesn't work. This will be his fourth time counting Desert Storm. Andrea, I hope you are feeling better. I know that you will once all is healed. I can't wait to see you. Let me know if you need anything. Give the kids a hug for me. Ms. Sharon and I try to keep each other informed of the Brown activity, but school has been so busy and the move. Well, no excuses I will try and do better. Phillip, Andrea, Elizabeth, Lucas, and Angel Ryan,
Congratulations on the new house. I have been checking the site daily to see if there had been an update since March. I was surpirised when Mrs. Trentacosta came by one day and asked where you all had moved. I told her I did know you were buying a house but I didn't know when you were moving. Ms. Rosecella also has moved to a new house in Hopkinsville. Every one is experiencing new chnages in their lives. I hope Scooter and I can get over to see you soon. It hasn't been easy with Ray gone, but we are surviving one day at a time. We were at Vandy yesterday for a check up with her pulmonologist and all is well. He said he did not see her again unless there were probelms. She is to remain on the same medicines for her asthma. Hugs and kisses to all. Of course I say hello to Ryan every morning when I pass the flower garden. It survived the frost. Miss you guys!Love you too!

Blessings On Easter Morning!

"Welcome, happy morning!"
age to age shall say:
hell today is vanquished,
heaven is won today!
Lo! the dead is living,
God for evermore!
Him their true Creator,
all his works adore!

Refrain:
"Welcome, happy morning!" age to age shall say.

Earth her joy confesses,
clothing her for spring,
all fresh gifts return
with her returning King:
bloom in every meadow,
leaves on every bough,
speak his sorrow ended,
hail his triumph now.

Months in due succession,
days of lengthening light,
hours and passing moments
praise thee in their flight.
Brightness of the morning,
sky and fields and sea,
Vanquisher of darkness,
bring their praise to thee.

Maker and Redeemer,
life and health of all,
thou from heaven beholding
human nature's fall,
of the Father's Godhead
true and only Son,
mankind to deliver,
manhood didst put on.

Thou, of life the Author,
death didst undergo,
tread the path of darkness,
saving strength to show;
come then, true and faithful,
now fulfill thy word,
'tis thine own third morning!
rise, O buried Lord!

Loose the souls long prisoned,
bound with Satan's chain;
all that now is fallen
raise to life again;
show thy face in brightness,
bid the nations see;
bring again our daylight:
day returns with thee!

The new house is great and I hope and pray you can make many, many wonderful new memories in it. Ryan will make his mark there and he will always be in our hearts everyday, every moment. Moving was certainly a diversion for the three of us that day wasn't it? We were so tired that night we couldn't remember our own names. I read on Sam Walsdorf's site that the second year is the hardest and I truly believe it. The fog has lifted and now we realize, it is not a horrible dream it is our new life. We certainly didn't ask for it, but we were chosen for it. God only sends special kids like Ryan to special parents, he didn't make a mistake, you are both very special. Ryan was so lucky to have been born to the two of you. Hey Buddy - loveyoumissyouseeyoulater!!!!!!!!

Phillip, Andrea, Angel Ryan, Elizabeth, and Lucas,
I heard the great news about the house before I read your letter. I know this is a difficult time for you but also a big step in your future. I was so disappointed I didn't get to watch the kids the last time you called. I'm glad it worked out that you could go and look at houses with the help of Ms. Roscella's daughter. Please let me know when you are moving. I would be glad to take the kids for the day to help get them in another direction. Scooter is growing like a weed too. She is started to really develope into a young lady, pretty scary. I still think of you all often. The flowers are starting to come up in Ryan's garden at school. We first thought the deer and squirrles had dug up all the bulbs, but some survived. I see Kelly and them had posted a note. I have Noah's picture along with Ryan's in my plan book so I can see them everyday. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers often although I don't get to see or talk with you as often as I would like. This single parenting is tough. Ray should be home for a few weeks in June to celebrate Scooter's 13th birthday. Wow! Where did the time go? You just wait to hear what Elizabeth will sound like when she is Scooter's age if she is already sounding 16! Oh, the joys of motherhood. Well I'd better go for now. I check the site often and was glad for the update. Please keep Matthew Litchfield in your prayers he has a caringbridge site and has gone in for a bone marrow transplant. He is from Hopkinsville. I went to High School with his father. Love you guys!

Phillip, Andrea, Nana, Elizabeth and Luke,
Just want you all to know you are in my thoughts and prayers today. I am sure this will always be a difficult day for you, as will many others, as you go through each year. I can tell you from experience, though they do get easier, the pain never goes away, we will always have to deal with those painful days, but I find them to be in a good way now, just keep remembering the good and happy times and those wonderful smiles and laughter he filled your hearts with.

Congratulations on the new home, I think you have made a very wise decision. It help me to move to our new house, though it took us longer, I was not sure I was ready, but now I am glad we did. I have all my memories in a huge trunk and when I miss Doug, I can go through it any time. That was probably the best thing I did to get rid of alot of his stuff and only keep the really special things in my own special place.

I love you all very much and wish I could bear this pain for you.

Hope tomorrow brings smiles and sunshine to your hearts

This has been a difficult week - I didn't consciously remember that March 17 is the day you received the diagnosis but I have been sad all week missing Ryan. I am thankful we have such happy memories to reflect on during these sad times.

Andrea and Phillip, you are both very strong and courageous. I imagine that there are many times when you do not feel strong and courageous, on those days when just getting out of bed in the morning takes all of the effort that you can muster, but others see the strength and courage you have. We are so proud of you and Ryan is proud of you also.

I was in counseling recently and I was talking to the therapist about Ryan. I said if I could just see him one more time and the therapist asked me what I would say to him. My response was that it isn't what I would say to him, Ryan knew and knows now that we all love him dearly, but I have so many questions to ask him. Are they taking good care of him in Heaven, does he get to play soccer every day, does his team always win, and I do envision him on a beautiful day, running on a soccer field with butterflies all around. Laughing and as carefree as the wind.

Sounds like Sissy has a bit of her brother and her mother in her, older than her years but SASSY!!! I was thinking the other day about how Ryan would have to sing to Elizabeth when we were in the car so she wouldn't cry. I still chuckle over it -- she would be wailing and as soon as
Ryan would start singing one of his favorite songs she would
stop -- and then he would sing it over and over and over and
he made sure everyone else in the car was singing also! He was such a wonderful brother.

I miss you all and think of you daily.
Love

Hello to all the friends and family of Ryan Brown. It has been a while since I have written anything in his guestbook but check it often and continue to be amazed at the number of people still sending best wishes and hugs and kisses to to Ryan's family. Since I am part of that family, I thank you for your continued support. It is getting to be that time of the year again when we need to consider fund raisers for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Walk. Sherry and I have been thinking about selling a cookbook as a fund raiser. This cookbook would consist of recipes from family and friends and would be offered for sale before, during and after the Relay for Walk provided we have enough participants and enough people interested in purchasing this cookbook. Of course all proceeds would go to the American Cancer Society (except for the cost of producing the cookbook). At this point, I am mainly trying to find out if there is any interest in this cookbook. I am thinking about a three-hole binder type of cookbook where additional pages of recipes could be added each year. The additional pages would be sold in bulk form for a fee and would be produced so that they could be added to the book according to whatever category the recipe fell in. So the book would be updated each year with new recipes or updated recipes and again the sale of the additional pages would be part of a fund raiser in Ryan's name. Last year we were able to raise almost $2,500.00 for the American Cancer Society in Ryan's name and we did this in only three months. We are selling the luminaries again this year and those can be purchased from me or Sherry. They are $5.00 each. My e-mail address is pattycapp44@sbcglobal.net or your response can be made here on Ryan's website. Sherry and I are always looking for ways to raise money in Ryan's name and if you have any suggestions please advise. This is Pike County's tenth year to have the Relay for Life Walk for the American Cancer Socity. We are close to raising one-half million dollars in this County and plan to accomplish this this year. Please respond and let me know what everyone thinks about the cookbooks or any other project you think we can tackle to raise this money for a good cause.

Valentines...... To Heaven

This Valentine is not of the ordinary kind,
Its still filled with love...and blessings inside;
But mine has to be sent on the wings of love...
You see its destination is the Heavens above.

Its not being sent to my parents so dear,
For they are still with me each day of the year;
Its being sent to my child...who left earth so soon,
Who's now in the Heavens with the stars and the moon.

The message is the same as your valentine,
"I love you...my sweet precious child of mine;
My love is still deeper than the ocean is blue,
And its sent with hugs and kisses...from me to you."

"I know you are with me each and every day,
You listen as I talk to you...and hear what I say;
For that is one thing that disease cannot do...
...you'll always be apart of me...and me a part of you."

"I know God did not give you the awful disease,
Thank Him for His comfort He gives me...would you please?
I dont know what I would do without His undying love...
Sent to bereaved parents from the Heavens above."

"I know you are in the best of care,
But it's so hard for us left on earth to bear;
Could you put in a request from us left behind...
For God to send the knowledge..so a cure we can find."

"So that no other family has to go through this pain,
Our lives without you will never be the same;
When I get lonely I will look to the sky at night...
And see you shining down your big bright light."

We are going to be in St. Louis around May 17th....
wondering if you guys might be able to meet up
with us around then? We'll be hooking up with
Mrs. Pam and some other CB friends. We'll most

Always thinking of you, hoping that you are shower with blessings everyday. Ryan is always in my daily thoughts along with your family, always praying for peace in your hearts.
I love the pictures, I hadn't seen two of them before it just feels great to see more smiles of Ryan or when sleeping like an Angel.
I am glad to read that Elizabeth and Lucas are doing wonderful and growing I can just imagine how proud Ryan is.
I wish I had words to describe how your son Ryan change my life, he is so special to me you are the first family I met in the kids cancer world in 2005. He open my eyes in a number of ways, ever since my life is different just by reading about him and his journey. I try to honor him and all the kids and their families, by loving my kids to the fullest, doing more for others, living life to the fullest, worshiping God our maker, taking the time to say "I love you" a lot more and specially donating to cancer hospital.
I still remember the dream I had with him on 02/09/06 assuring me that my daughter is in good hands along his side with God. His amazing even though I didn't get to meet him in person ("wishing I had") I feel like I known him all of my life, but I guess he just had that sweet beautiful personality. I feel him around me with my daughter, not to long ago I was waiting on some medical test results that would change my life, but I just knew I would be okay I felt them in the hospital telling me not to worry, wouldn't you know it everything came back negative.
I left the hospital with such peace it was still daylight and then i saw it there was the most beautiful shining, sparkly star that follow me home and then disappear I just knew who it was what a blessing.

Keep Believing!!!!! with all my heart.
Sending a lot of love and wishing a wonderful 2007...

Dear Andrea and Phillip,

Today is my mother's birthday. Even thought she died many years ago, I always think of her on this day. If loss of a middle age parent is difficult for a young woman, now a middle ager herself, the loss of a child has to be extremely difficult. My thoughts and prayers are with you often.

Ryan was remembered at the Epiphany service, at St. George's, yesterday. Beneath my signature, I will add today's collect.

God bless you always, and, of course, God bless your sweet boy.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette~

Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

I wish to thank everyone for all their prayers and for the love and support that has been given to Andrea and Phillip and their family thru the last two years. It has been most difficult with the death of our little hero and the deployment of Phillip. Your love and support has not only been a blessing to them but to us here in Louisiana, Missouri also. To know that so many people care and pray for them gives such comfort. Please continue to pray that God will continue to watch over them in the year to come as we know Phillip will again be sent somewhere to defend our nation along with his company. I ask for God's blessing for each and everyone of you in this new of 2007. Mema (grandmother to the adorable Elizabeth, Lucas and our hero, Ryan).

As Thanksgiving gets closer and closer I have been thinking a lot about what I am thankful for. There have been so many changes in my life in the past year, and when I look at the motivation for the changes I have made I see that a lot of the reason is Ryan. Ryan motivated me to make my life all that it should be. To strive harder to be a blessing to the world. So as I prepare for my feast tomorrow I would like to say "Thank You" Andrea and Phillip, Nana and Amy, and all of Ryan's family, for sharing your blessing, your buddy, your angel, with me.

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he! looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the
front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Aunt Sherry,
Thank you so much for the update. I was sitting here, a little depressed (feeling sorry for myself) and now I have to admit I am feeling quite ashamed for this. I have too much to be thankful for. God bless you, Andrea, Phillip and our little Angel in heaven. Thank you for reminding me that I am blessed beyond compare!

Hey Brown Family! Phillip it was so wonderful to see you the other day. I'm sure that it was hard for you to walk into the school. Every morning I walk past Ryan's garden and say a prayer for all of you. Andrea, Lindsie said that you called her a few weeks ago to babysit. Get with her and maybe she can watch them in a few weeks. We have a hectic schedule this weekend and next, but maybe even Tuesday of this coming week. Let her know. She loves Lucas and Lizzie Bug! As do the rest of the Meeks' Gang! I am procrastinating getting dressed for school. Talk to you soon! Love you all!

I thought that was pretty good!!!!
Dev did most of the work so of
course he was pretty excited. HE
got a $25 gift card to a Mexican
restaurant so that was nice. Actually
better than the 'grand prize basket'
which was wrapping paper and stuff that
he wouldn't really be interested in....

Hope things are well at your house. I
can't believe how big your little ones
are getting. Sissy sure looks like she
knows it all........I've got one of those
too!!!! Never a dull moment, huh? LOL.

That is a good thing!!! Keeps you on your
toes. Miss talking to you!!!!!

I am so sorry to read the latest about your baby. You as a family have been thru a lot, and it makes one wonder why some people have to endure so much and others go thru life unscathed. At least Philip is home and everything does not fall on your shoulders alone. I was so sad to read the update about Lucas. Rest assured that he will be in my prayers, as will the rest of you. I hope Elizabeth's tests come back negative for the condition. You are such a strong family and I know you will deal with whatever comes your way but I hope it won't be necessary to deal with anything else...you've been through more than enough already. As I said, my prayers are with you.

Happy belated birthday wishes to Phillip! I hope you had a wonderful birthday, surrounded by the ones you love:)

Nana, you once again did a great update! The relay was awesome and you did a great job getting it all together! The sweetest sound I heard the whole night was the name 'Ryan Douglas Brown' repeated over and over. Of course, finally getting to play with Lucas was a very close second! Thank you for welcoming in Michael(your 'other' son!) and myself into your family! We love you guys! Can't wait to do it all again next year! Maybe then Michael will let me stay til the very end! And keep me in the loop about the other September walk, too! We did 3 this year, might as well aim for 4 in '07!
