Hey guys! How are you? We are good. I check in every now and then. I know you are busy being normal folks!!! I am a preschool teacher and we asked that the kids bring in old magazine for an art project. We were flipping through them cutting out things and there was your beautiful family. I had read the article years ago when it came out, but never expected to see it come my way again like that. I was a pleasant surprise and a joy to re-read your miraculous story. It also made me think of you and want to stop by and say hello. So, hello! Hope you all are great and have a great holiday season.

Kristin - I have been a follower of Brandon's page and others for quite some time. I pray for your precious children and families quite often. As my husband and I were walking into the Gwinnett Arena on Sunday, I poked him and whispered "that's one of the cancer families that I follow and pray for". We were moving fast, and I didn't want to interrupt you. I actually met D.D. and Grant Dixon a couple of weeks ago, and worked up the nerve to introduce myself and confess that I've been lurking several CB pages for quite some time. It was such a delight to meet them, and marvel in the fact that your families can enjoy doing "normal" things. I continue to pray for children who have conquered cancer, children who have cancer, and a cure for all cancers. P.S. I went to Lakeside, but I'm much older than you!!

Kristin, I just read your update. Kilby started kindergarten on Aug. 7th and I definitely shed tears and the closer we got to school, the more they fell. I felt sure people were wondering, what is wrong with that woman, as I couldn't even speak. In my heart, I know how blessed I am to have a healthy baby girl to watch grow, but it is so hard to let go. I just want her innocence to remain. Kilby and I have been home together for 5 1/2 years. I have learned to be thankful for even the bad moments. I was so sad for the first two days, my house was too quiet and all I did was watch the clock for pick up time. I thought so much about Jenny during this time. Praise God for Izzy! He is always on time, isn't He? I can't wait to see you soon. Love to you and your two, cuties!

Oh, how funny! And it surely takes every mother back to that day. It's one that none of us will ever forget. I can't really explain it either - it's just such a big "grown up" moment in their lives and changes the way we see ourselves, too - mothers of "older children", instead of "little ones". I hope you are adjusting now that the week is winding down. I'm sure that Brandon has had an awesome week!

Love you, Kristin!

You explained things perfectly! Cancer may not own our lives, but it changed us forever. Things effect us more than others who haven't traveled this journey. I do the same thing, reach out thru caringbridge or other friends who "get it" and feel it the way I do...Keep your page. When your son is older, he will want to read it- his memories wont be the same as yours.

big hugs to you.

What an awesome journal entry. I so understand! You explained how I feel about Chandler's site too. Every once in a while, I think about maybe stopping it and starting something else....a blog like Kristie? Nah...I just want when someone is really in one of those dark places ...when some mama somewhere needs to read about another child with this same NASTY cancer, stage IV, there's talk of chemo, radiation and transplants that our site can be read and that mama can see that even though the percentages are grim....SOMEBODY makes it. So, for now, I keep updating (however infrequently). I keep soliciting prayers for upcoming scans and I hope making somebody understand what it is like to be a pediatric cancer survivor's mother.

I'm glad too that you keep yours so I can come here to commiserate(sp?)with you or find out how those sweet fellas are doing. I love being able to leave you a message here.

Thanks for all you do! Looking forward to QH!!!

Sweet Friend,

The words of your heart ...so tender with the loss of such a precious child's life....are so heartfelt and raw...I know God has and will give you the strength to continue on even in the midst of so much pain....as you travel along with so many families....This calling on your life is a tough one....He doesn't promise us the absence of pain....but He does promise His powerful presence and strength to continue on and of course...our glorious Heaven when our work on earth is done....I am so sad for all these losses as well....I will never understand it this side of heaven....I just wanted you to know how precious you are...I pray He meets you today in a mighty way...love to you dear friend...

Tenderly,

Kristin, I thought about you today(at 12:04p.m. to be exact) as I was going to town. I never know why people pop into my mind when they do, but I do feel as though it is a sign to stop and pray, even if it is "Lord, You know what Kristin needs right now, Lord fill her heart with the knowledge that You are with her." Friend, I do not know how you do what you do, but I am ever so grateful that you keep on keeping on, and continue to fight so hard for these precious children that suffer from this cancer beast. I continue to pray for your family as well. You are one special lady!

Love you Friend...

I keep going back to the words of one of Catie's favorite Amy Grant songs and I can't help but think that part of her lesson was to continually remind me of it... to continually turn my eyes from this word to the next...

Turn your eyes upon Jesus; Look full in His wonderful face.
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

Hugs to you and yours,
Jeny

Thank you so much for signing the Kington's page. I know it helps for them to know and talk to and possibly lean on someone else who has gone through this world of cancer. We go to church with this beautiful family and can talk to and pray for them, but we can't say we know how they are feeling and know what they are going through because we don't and can't. Thank you for being there for them.

It's been a long time since we've touched base, but I just wanted to tell you how often I think of you and how much I appreciate that you have continued to follow God's calling for your life - despite how hard it is sometimes.

Those of us whose children are survivors sometimes feel guilty shouting that from the rooftops, when so many other equally precious children become angels way too soon. But you're right - the victors need to have their story told and celebrated too, for all those other families who need a message of hope.

Love to you and yours -

Kristin, We have thought about dropping Ryan's site, but keep it for some of the same reasons. It helps us feel connected to our "family". And-it is a great place to vent sometimes! :)(and know that other people get it). Please keep doing what you do. You probably don't hear it often enough, but so many people are incredibly grateful for all you are doing for our kids, and unfortunately, for the kids who will be diagnosed this year and in the years to come. So grieve for sweet little Catie, as we are all grieving in our own ways, and lead on. Take every opportunity to celebrate the children who "win" as well as grieve for those who don't. We will be praying for your continued strength and courage. Much love, The Morgans

I see the difference that you have made in so many lives. You have a gift. A gift of compassion for others. This is not a easy gift, but a gift God knew that you could handle. Sweet Friend...your heart is full but your "tank" is empty...and who wouldn't understand when they know you..that your job is not an office or a paycheck..it is your passion...your mission..your life's hope to somehow make a differnce....understand this..you are impacting this world each day you go into the office..each meeting ..each phone call...each event you plan...MOST importantly..you are making a difference in the way you love...it is born out of the deepest part of your soul that cares so deeply about the cancer community...it cannot be manufactured..or turned on and off...you live with this consistantly on a day to day basis...you aRE WEARY..MY FRIEND...IT IS TOO MUCH TO ASK TO LOVE SO PASSIONATELY AND NOT FEEL "SCARED....and unsure if what you are doing could ever make a difference"..it'ok ..let yourself go there..and then lean on the One that will not only give you strength..He will Be your strength!! You are a light...you provide people a place to go when they want to help..and you are working with a fire burning inside of you to make childhood cancer known to a world that is sometimes fooled into believing cancer doesn't effect children!! I am so very blessed that God has led me to know you and walk with you!! Please take a break this weekend just to enjoy your boys at home..it is needed...it will fill your tank...and remember...God is glorified in your efforts to give yourself away for so many!! Consider yourelf hugged!! See you next week!!

Sweet Kristin, You ARE making a difference. You are. I believe that. If nothing else, knowing you are there fighting mightily for our children gives me HOPE. Hope that someone, the right someone or ones, will hear your words and pleas for help - the help that may save our children. I know Catie's passing has fueled your fire and exhausted you at the same time. How could it not? Allow yourself time to grieve Kristin, regain your balance, and catch your breath. The deep pain you feel is a sign of your pure heart and earnest desire to help those who cannot help themselves. Thank you for being such an amazing friend to so many, and especially to Tre', Jenny, and Catie.

Kristin, I have thought about you so many times today as I remember sweet Catie and your drive to do more and to ultimately find the earthly cure we all wanted so for Catie. I began crying taking my little boy to school this morning as I thought about so many people just busying through life as if they have forever. I wanted to stop the world and say look at this story without blinders and be changed and different. I wanted to stop the world for Jenny and Tre' as I imagine for them life is more than suffocating. I do know that only God has given them strength and will continue to provide what so many of us would like to but can't. I truly respect you for your daily work to fight and find the cure. Bless you.

What a beautiful passage from Dr. Noble. One I will keep. It was hard to read it through my tears, but it so accurately expresses the heaviness in my heart (and so many others) today.

Kristin, I wanted to write and let you know I am keeping you in my thoughts today. I talked to DD this morning and when she told me you were all there last night, I was so happy to think of the support and love Jenny and Tre' were receiving, and the support I'm sure all of you were to one another, as well. This is such a terrible thing, and my heart is broken, yet I feel selfish saying that when Jenny's grief is immeasurable compared to my own.

Just know that in addition to praying for the Wilkins family, I am also saying prayers for those of you who were able to shoulder them through at such a painful time. Many hugs,

Oh my! I think I have Brandon's year younger twin running around my house. I had to force John to wear the Batman costume to school for the festivities, he only agreed to be a complete dork, if I brought the Scream mask with me so he could put it on immediately upon school dismissal, displaying to the world he was not a dork in a superhero costume....

Love the pics of the boys, gosh Ryan is definitely becoming quite the handsome young man! I would say Brandon is more precious than before but I'll defer to handsome young lad so he'll feel just like his big brother!

Keep up the great work Kristin, proof positive clear across this great country you have so many who so admire all that you have done and continue to do. You have selflessly given of yourself and have truly made a difference in the lives of countless children and families most of whom you'll never even know of. It just doesn't get more admirable than that.

And speaking of important dates I do believe the Connor family has a super special miracleous date in the very near future?!?!?!?! I think we out here in cyberland need more fun pics to mark that day as well!

We had to dress up on Halloween for school in the third grade. I never went trick or treating as a kid (extremely shy, it was just not something I wanted to do, despite candy being involved - see, my oddness started at an early age! LOL) so I really had no costume. My mom improvised and made me a Hobo. Looking back, I'm sure it was cute, but I was mortified that morning. lol. I pretty much went to school in tears. I loosened up once I found out my best friend was ALSO a hobo and my teacher (whom I ADORED) came walking in dressed as a construction worker, complete with a big flannel shirt, just like I was wearing.

So Flash isn't cool anymore? I'm so behind the times. :)

I'm glad to hear the boys are doing well and I'm so sorry that October was such a stressful month. ((hugs)) I hope life slows down a little bit so it's not zooming by at such a fast pace. You definitely deserve to have a few relaxing moments throughout the days.

Thanks for all you do.

Hi Kristin!
Thank you so very much for the wonderful "Quiet Hero's" luncheon. Please know that I am grateful for every penny's worth of research that your hard work and love has gently crafted from this timeless tribute to all us Cancer Mom's. It feels like "Breakfast at Tiffany's", only for Cancer Mom's! (Delicate, elegant, yet strong as molten steel)

Kristin, I hate I didn't get a chance to say Hi at the Luncheon. You and all the volunteers did a magnificient job. Thank you so much for the opportunity to get together with all the other moms. No one can offer quite the support and understanding than someone who has walked in your shoes. And thank you for raising so much money for our cure. You have touched more people than you will probably ever realize. Your drive and passion for finding a cure for our children is inspirational. Love, Missy Morgan

Hi Kristin,
There are plenty of us out here who still check on you, wanting to be sure everything is still okay in the Connor home! And thankfully, it is. It sounds stressful and chaotic, but there are so many of us out here who appreciate everything you give and do for our kids every day. What a special, amazing, woman you are. There's nothing wrong with trying to find some normalcy in your life. We're all looking for that and you're certainly entitled to it, too! But, just knowing that you have a way to communicate with those who love and care about your family, especially when you need them is a wonderful thing ~ or just to hear that life is crazy but okay. So, I'm thankful for your site. And there are lots of us out here who do love and care about you and your family. God bless you for your commitment to our kids and the sacrifices that requires.
Love,

Hi Kristin....you have an incredibly humble heart...."...some level of sacrifice"..those that know you well and those of us that don't...realize the endless hours of physical and emotional energy you give to so very many people...it is a rare gift ...a true calling on your heart...there are so many families that you touch directly and indirectly by what you do...I admire so much of what you do but even more the person you are...selfless..for sure and passionate beyond words...I wish you could see yourself through the eyes of others...you might be able to get just a tiny glimpse of the impact your heart has had on so many ....I would still love to get together for coffee or lunch...I know the next few weeks will be so full for you with the luncheon so maybe after that....thanks for inspiring those of us on the sidelines to "get off the bench"...with love and admiration...Andrea Jones

Thank you so very much for checking in on us and leaving notes in the guestbook -- I check it often on scan visits. We were not able to see all of the PBS special this week, but I've had someone tape it so that I can sit and watch it by myself in small chunks, b/c I don't think I could handle it all in one or two sittings.

The tourament was GREAT!! We were thrilled with how things went. Today was not so great, but could definitely have been worse. Hopefully we can chat soon!!

Kristin,
I am reading your entry through swollen eyelids. I did watch the stories last night and cried for hours and hours. I thought I was strong enough. I found myself once again on my knees, praying for all of this to stop!!! I just don't understand and I know I never will. Thank you again for your continued support for our children.
I can't tell you why you are so exhausted but my theory on the subject is the sadness that you deal with everyday and the worry.. I will say that when Zack was in treatment for over 3 years, I could not get enough sleep - exhausted from the minute I got up in the morning to the minute I could sneak in a nap. Now that he is off treatment. I wake up not feeling that way. I have more energy and do not feel so exhausted. I don't know if this is the same for you but I bet you are just emotional exhausted and your body is asking for a break!! Love to you and your family

Glad to hear you guys are doing well. I'm so sorry that Ryan is getting picked on at school. Kids (and adults) can be pretty cruel sometimes. I wish I knew why people said and did some of the things they do. I don't understand it, but I've definitely experienced my fair share of rude comments growing up. (For me it was in middle school).

But, Ryan, let's do a little rundown of the facts here, okay? 1 - Not cool enough to be their friends. Okay, first of all, ANYONE, ANY-ONE who doesn't think you are cool enough to be their friend? THEY are the ones who aren't cool, not you. Because they would be LUCKY to have a friend as great as you. 2 - Fat. Okay, see, clearly, they have no idea what they are talking about. They've lost all credibility with me. You are most certainly NOT fat and you are so handsome. If the girls aren't already falling at your feet (I know, I know, at this point in your life, us girls are probably a little icky) then they will be soon! Trust me. And 3 - You aren't good at kickball. Well, okay, on this one, I really have no idea because I've never seen you play, BUT you have to be about 100 times better at it than I am. Seriously. I'm just not good. If I kicked the ball past someone, it was a miracle. And don't even get me STARTED on trying to do something on the defensive-side of things. You'd have better luck getting a tree to field the ball. :) In short, Ryan, you're awesome and you have SUCH a good heart. Keep that; it's very important. Much more important than what those kids say. ((hugs))

Kristin, I saw your son's website through Katlyn's and thought I would write to you and Ryan. I live in Georgia and I also have a little boy that was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in June of 2004. I read your update about your recent decision to join children's cure search and how you felt God was leading you to this. I too feel the need to be a part of something to help our children from this dreadful disease. I read over your journals and remembered writing about some of the same fears that you and your family had. I pray for your son's continued remission and for your families' strength. We try to live normal lives ourselves and wish we could forget all about it, but it dosen't go away. My son's name is Rett and he is five years old he has a ten year old brother Greyson and sister Kristin. He is in a state of remission at this time. Rett started kindergarten in October after his port was removed. He finally got to go on his wish trip this March to Big Sky Montana to ski and dogsledd and all he talks about is moving out there. I'm sorry if I rambled but I just want you to know that you can contact me anytime if you need to. I would like to know more about the children's cure search when you have the time. God bless all of you. www.caringbridge.org/ga/rettmcleod.

I am glad you had safe travel and from the looks of it, had a great time. You can tell we both have 2 boys. All of our Disney photos are about the same. We have that same one of Cpt. Hook and the next photo on the roll was Logan digging in the dirt in the planters that surrounded that little area. Boys will be boys! Between your legal background, organizational ability and huge heart, you will be a major asset to CURE. What a wonderful opportunity for both you and CURE Childhood Cancer!

My dear Kristin,
Since the days after our little Trenton was daignosed, and you walked into our hospital room with your arms and your heart wide open to cuddle our family, whom of which you didn't know until that day; I have loved you.

I know I am one of the few that love you for the very same reason. I could write a book, just about you and your heart, you loving soul and your fight against childhood cancer, as your life time goal on this side of heaven.

You write so beautifully, all the time. I am always inspired by many things you DO and you say.

Thank you for being a part of my life and my families life. You are the best and the best to so many.

I love you dearly........
(I always have Brandon on our personal site as you know under Trenton's buddies to always pray for) I know he's cancer free (praise God), but I always want our prayer warriors praying for him and your family - as you always do for us and others....
xoxo
miracles always,
Ginger

Dear Kristin,
I'm glad to hear that the boys are feeling well, and I sure hope you are taking good care of yourself and getting enough rest! We are all so proud to have you as an advocate and so grateful for all your efforts on our behalf. All of us childhood cancer families do share one another's burdens, and for such a tender heart as yours, that burden can be so heavy. I just want you to know how much you are loved and appreciated! I hope this new year brings you renewed health and strength, for you and all your boys!

My wish list for when I win the lottery used to be fairly typical, I think: new house, new cars, college funds, (ok, ok, maybe splurging on a pair or two of new Prada shoes, ha!) but I can tell you now that if *I* had a million dollars, my priorities have sure changed. Pediatric cancer research would be at the top of my list. Sadly, winning the lottery is about as likely as me EVER owning a pair of Prada shoes, but know that my heart is in the right place, as is yours! :)

Kristin, as usual, you've addressed the heart of your emotions so well. I so wish "you" could find that one big financial windfall with a passion for the cure for all the kids. It is something I will add to my prayers. I am glad to hear you had such a wonderful Christmas with all your family. Take care of yourself and get well. We need you!! Much love & hugs, Julie

Hi Guys!
Just checking in... Kirstin you put it so well here... Within 30 minutes of hearing Dr. Hudgins say, "No Tumor" on Monday Tre' and I had already discussed how it could be so for us and not for others like Jay Gaskins... Don't get me wrong... we were completely relieved and totally grateful... but there are so many others.

I know we're nowhere near out of the woods yet and I know there's more treatment in Catie's future, but we are so much better off than I thought we were going to be at this point this week. And tonight... for that I will be grateful...

Big hugs to you guys. Hope to see you soon.

Oh yeah... The 2nd Annual Cure Classic will be on 6/19 at THE WESTIN'S SAVANNAH HARBOUR!!!!! A Senior PGA tournament is held there in April, so the course should be in great shape. We are extremely excited to land this course. It's going to cost us about $5 more a person than the other course we were looking at, but I think it's definitely worth it. I've talked with Natalie Maxey (little Maddy's mom) and I think they're going to do the website for us. Our brochures should be ready in the next week or so. I send you one when they're ready.

Take care, love to all 4 of you,
Jenny
