Hi guys! Just coming by to check on sweet Jacob today. Heather thank you SO much for stopping by Hayleigh's site! You are dealing with so much right now and to take the time to come by and sign her GB meant so much. I truly appreciate your kind words and prayers. Hayleigh says 15 years is a great time for her to start dating so tell Jacob to be ready! ;o) Please give him a big hug from us and know that he is in our daily prayers. Lots of love!

Hi Heather,

Wow, it's been SO LONG since I've got to sign Jacob's guestbook! I'm now sitting in a library in Alabama. Thank God for the internet!

I can NOT begin to tell you what joy it has been to my heart to read about all God has done in just one WEEK for our Amazing Jacob! Just think what he'll do in the weeks, and months ahead...

I know this is a direct result of so much prayer, fasting, and faith on his behalf. I know this brings so much JOY to the Lord when His people gather together, and believe, hope, pray and just take him at His word.

I totally agree with everything the woman who visited you said. It's all so true. Another thing I've thought of is how much GOOD that has come out of the evil that was supposed to accomplish. So many people have FROGGED like they never have before, many people's faith has been increased, and just seeing the HAND OF GOD move so mightly has given us all so much HOPE!!!

So, devil, you are losing SO BAD!!!! Man, he's so dumb...

Well, it's time for me to go. Thanks Heather for mentioning us for prayer. That means to the world to us. I know God is using this all for good in our lives for sure. We're still in a state of shock, but in the end, good will come.

Rejoicing with you, believing, hoping and giving thanks for all God has done, and WILL DO. Yes, He is FAITHFUL to finish what He has begun in Jacob's life.

Susan & Jordan

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Believing in Miracles...
but more importantly..
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Willing to recieve them!
Jacob is so perfect and so pure that he doesn't know any other way than to accept Gods Miracle...
We will continue to pray for him as he overcomes the side effects of this round of chemo, then in time we will cheer him on as he is able to leave the hospital COMPLETELY healed.
"It is one thing to say it, yet another to believe it"

I'm so glad you had such an encouraging visitor. Sometimes God goes to great lengths to bring us that special word that we need to hear. Thank goodness that she recognized God's voice and obeyed when He told her to go to the hospital and meet Jacob. I'm so glad that your whole family was able to be together all weekend. Hey! I have just returned from Florida where I was volunteering for an American Cancer Society weekend event. I have been wondering about Jacob since Friday morning at 4am when I left. I just got home to Connecticut and I am so happy to hear that Jacob was able to go home and that the boys were in the hospital for an overnight visit, how special those visits must have been. I am praying for Jacob's healing and in awe of the lady who came to visit you and the words she shared. I will be checking back shortly I'm sure. Keeping you in my prayers.

So happy you had time together as a family this weekend! Sad that Jacob is enduring more side effects from chemo but continuing to pray for his comfort, strength and COMPLETE HEALING here on earth. I can't start or end my day without checking in on my "other Jacob" (my own Jacob will be five next week). Praise be to God for Jacob's strength and courage and your family bonds and unfailing faith in our Lord God! Thank you yet again for letting us into your life and allowing us to pray with you.

I read your update earlier today and that saying has been stuck in my head...the kids were looking at me like Im going crazy. They said "mom do you wanna watch Finding Nemo....again????" as if I am the one who watches it 3-4 times a week!!!

I must say I have been truly inspired by Your family's faith Heather. Just when it seemed someone would give up, you put all of your faith in God and kept on praying and believing. When I read that the tumor markers had gone down and the oxygen was no longer needed and that Jacob should be able to do chemo again, I was on top of the world! I was so happy for Jacob and my faith in God grew even stronger. I see a very bright light shining inside of Jacob. He is beyond amazing and most definitely a true miracle. I hope he gets through the ickies that come from the side effects of chemo. I hope all those cancer cells are being knocked down and leaving Jacob's precious body forever. God Bless you

Praying for Jacob, right now, that God would lift him up and heal his body, through a big miracle, through medicine or any way HE choses. This I pray seeking the will of the Father and in the name above all names HIS SON , Jesus Christ, AMEN.

PS: Please continue to pray for all those folks who have lost loved ones and homes in the hurricane. I live in a very small town in north east LA, and we have many evacuees in town without any Red Cross assistance. The town leaders, churches and almost everone is helping take care of them. We know many will be with us for six months or more. Some of these people have NO home to go back to even after the water is gone. JUST pray for them to know they do have a future.

Hello Dear Ones!
I've been following Jacob for a short while now, I have to say it only took one glance at those beautiful blue eyes to fall in love with your sweet Jacob! I just want you to know that we are BELIEVING GOD with you for Jacob's healing! In our searching HIS WORD, while praying over Brent (our nine year old son) .......... the ONLY condition Christ ever placed on healing was belief! (That I've found) Brent was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in October 04, and was given 1/4-1/3 chance of survival. I'll spare you the details .......... the awesome thing is that he is now classified as "NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE" and after only seven months of treatment, we are now living at home. We are doing tests next week to make sure he's still clear, but in this too ... we are BELIEVING GOD for AWESOME RESULTS! We INDEED serve an AWESOME GOD!!

We had a pastor speak at our church last night (he's from Louisiana) and among the things he said ......... he read the lyrics to a song that I'd like to share with you. I think it fits the "storm" called cancer.

Sometimes He Calms the Storm
song lyrics written by Tony Wood and Kevin Stokes

All who sail the sea of faith
Find out before too long
How quickly blue skies can grow dark
And gentle winds grow strong
Suddenly fear is like white water
Pounding on the soul
Still we sail on knowing
That our Lord is in control

CHORUS
Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered "Peace be still"
He can settle any sea
But it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

He has a reason for each trial
That we pass through in life
And though we're shaken
We cannot be pulled apart from Christ
No matter how the driving rain beats down
On those who hold to faith
A heart of trust will always
Be a quiet peaceful place

CHORUS

I believe that GOD has already heard your prayers ........... and so I thank and PRAISE HIM for Jacob's HEALING!!! (On earth!)

Your sister in Christ,
Tonya

Each time I come and read the updates, I am in awe of your strength as a family...and you as a mother! With all that has happened in the world recently, some people have been prone to ask the question..."Is God really in control?" In our "life group" aka sunday school class on sunday, that is just what we discussed. In Matthew 5:45, God reminds us that in fact he is in control. It rains on the just and the unjust...God may have allowed evil (cancer) to enter into your lives so that your strength could be a shining testimony to SO many people...bringing them closer to the loving and merciful God we serve. I agree with the lady that cancer is trynig to take the light that shines in Jacob. Though I have never met him face to face, I am encouraged each time I see his sweet smile in the pictures. I can only imagine what a blessing he has been to you and your whole family. My prayer is that God continues to use Jacob and you as witnesses to HIS glory and for the good of all those who seek HIM. Thank you so much for loving Jesus and allowing us to see that through your words and your children.

Praying without ceasing and FROGging with you all!

Hello, Jacob. My name is Joy Cruse and my son, Connor, has cancer that is called neuroblastoma. We are at the hospital this week getting chemotherapy and one of the moms there told me about you and told me to check out your website. I like the journal entries from your mom and I believe (just like your mom does) that God is the great Healer!!!!! I also agree with her that the prayers of all these people who are praying for you are moving mountains for you!!! I'm so encouraged by your family's faith, your friends' prayers and your strength. As I read through your mom's journal entries, I find I am on a similar path as your mom - one of Biblical discovery, growing knowledge of the power of prayer and an increasing faith in God. I will pray for you and your complete healing on earth.

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite quotes from a devotional from Frances J. Roberts.

"In tenderness Thou hast brought me to this place, and surely in gentleness Thou wilt minister to my needs. I shall not be disheartened if I may but look upon Thy face. I may not receive a speedy answer to my prayer, but while the light is whithheld I shall trust thee in the darkeness.

There are many pitfalls in the journey of the soul. It is not given you to know in advance all the hazards, but it is My intention to show you clearly where to set your foot as you take each step."

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." Psalm 37:23

I pray that the Lord would guide your steps on your journey to a full recovery.

I know that your circumstances are different from ours, however, I felt led to shar ewith you a song which has sustained out hearts and faith as we travel uncharted territory for our family.

Casting Crowns - Voice fo Truth
Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
on to the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

Chorus:
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes
to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone

Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
On top of them lookin' down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

Chorus:
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me (calling out to me)
I will choose to listen and believe-

I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the Voice of truth
I will listen and believe
Cause Jesus you are the voice of truth
And I will listen to you

Hi Heather. I have been meaning to stop by Jacob's page, Lyn told me that I should check out what has been happening. Wow what an amazing story! If only you could see the huge smile on my face, I am so happy that Jacob's tumor markers have been decreasing, and chemo can be started again. He is such a miracle, what an amazing little guy he is!! The many prayers being said for Jacob are really working, it gives me so much hope. He has such an inspirational story.

Thank you Heather for stopping by Avery's page during your hectic days, and always remembering her. Jacob is always in my prayers, I just wish I could sign more frequently. Please know I am always thinking and praying for him, and your family. I hope you have a great time at the cookout, how nice to get home! Enjoy every second. Big hugs and prayers heading your way :) Love, Shannon - mom to Avery

Your faith is just amazing, and I thank you so much for sharing that--what a wonderful reminder that it is not our sorrows and troubles that come from God, but our strength and support. It is so very easy, at least for me, to just get bogged down in wondering how everything is supposed to work, when so many things seem not to be. Yet you, who are facing the greatest challenge of all, are completely focused on drawing your strength from prayer. I do pray for Jacob, and hope that it helps him to bear up as the treatments sound so harsh. I'm amazed at how he handles everything with such good grace and am hopeful that you will see the smiles and giggles and silly faces one day soon. I'm glad you're able to get out on passes and have a break from the hospital; I'm sure that does you all the world of good, and it's great for the boys to be all together. I hope today is a good one for all of you.

Heather, we are praying for each of you daily. I know what you mean about feeling so lucky to have the family all under one roof. No matter how noisy or messy it may become it feels better than being apart no matter what. Our hospital room became our home, for each of us. It was the place that began to feel normal after months and months. It was weird to actually be in our real home together finally. It still feels weird some days, but good weird. I pray so much for those silly Jacob faces to come back and for those silly faces to be around your house. I pray for you to be able to take a lot more photos with all those handsome boys together. I pray for you to be able to all sit at your family table together and eat dinner. I pray for you to be able to go grocery shopping normally again. Just all those normal things that so many people do each day not knowing how missed that would be having it taken away. I think of your family throughout my days. Love, Tracy and

Hello Heather and Family!! What a beautiful way of putting things into perspective. Jacob is full of so much good!! That explains why I felt an immediate connection and love for your little boy--like one of my own. I truly believe there are Angels among us here on earth. There is a special light that shines from Jacob's eyes and his smiles. May Jacob's fever subside today and may the Lord ease his pain and discomfort, while he fights the last of this cancer. These past couple of weeks have been a nightmare and an inspiration to our family and many others. We have all seen a darkness and felt that horrible crushing blow of pain. But then there was a light, beautiful and bright, that reminded us of God's truly awesome power. In the midst of this pain, Jacob got stronger and smiled and started to heal again. People who had nothing banded together and stayed strong to help complete strangers piece their lives back together. I read your entry about evil and wanted to share this with you. I watched the news a few days ago and they were talking about a 14 year old boy who was going up and down the streets in his neighborhood saving those people who could not get out themselves. He was 14! That is so inspiring! Just as inspiring as Jacob saying "Turn out that light!". Such strength in those so young. They are part of God's Army, strong and amazing and generous spirits. And they will not be crushed! They continue on. All of these children I have seen on these sites. They march on whether we can physically see them or not, they are there fighting for us. They are guardian angels, in whatever form, here to inspire and protect us, to show us the way by lighting our path. God works in mysterious and powerful ways. I have seen the goodness shine out in people when life has left them with so little hope. Evil will not prevail! Not when we have such goodness in this world. You and Donnie have 4 beautiful angels to help lead your way. How blessed you are to have them in your life.

I just found this and had to make another entry!

In your day of trouble, may the Lord be with you! May the God of Jacob keep you from harm. May there be shouts of joy when we hear the news of your victory, flags flying with praise to God for all the he has done for you.

They are truely wonderful people. We have found our comfort there also when Zachary has to stay in the hospital. We will continue to storm heaven with our prayers for complete healing for Jacob. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi!! I wish I could give your sweet Jacob a big hug. All the boys are beautiful. I check everyday to see how everyone is. I do know the things you are going through. Way back, 1978 my daughter, Amy, had neuroblastoma. We have lived the "hospital" life. Miracles do happen. Amy is now 28 and has a daughter of her own 8 years old. It is hard to look down the long road when you are living in the minute. Please know that I am praying for you.

WOW, what an amazing little guy! And an amazing testament to faith in our Savior. Hooray for you guys - thanks for the amazing good news! Will add you to my nightly prayer list. I was especially amazed to read those lab results. My mom had a similar experience with her cancer (now in remission). Her recovery was so great that doctors at the Mayo Clinic called HER to see whether they could determine what made her recover so much better than anyone else they had seen. They could not find a clinical reason for her recovery. We have ultimately chalked it all up to a positive attitude, a strong spirit, a great support network of family and friends, and our collective faith. It works! BELIEVE! BELIEVE! BELIEVE!

Find the Blessing

I grope my way around this darkened room.
It is a darkness so black
That I cannot see my way . . .
But I know there is a blessing to be found here,
Some reminder of Your presence
Hidden just beyond where I stand now.
So I continue to feel my way around,
Looking with my hands
For what my soul knows will be discovered.
Just the knowing that You are in this room
Is a blessing in itself.
Knowing that You are also leaving
Treasures for me to uncover day by day…
This leaves me twice blessed.
So I will search, confident of Your promises,
Knowing that this room will one day
Be flooded with Your light,
Revealing each gift
That You have tenderly placed here for me.
Until then, I will find peace in the darkness
And I will be blessed.

Heather,
So glad to hear about your miracle. I learned a long time ago when making decisions for my son when he had cancer, what ever decision you make is the right one. If you decided not to do any more chemo it would have been the right decision for you. Seeing that you decided to do more chemo that is the right decision to make. Just do the best with the info that you have. Their is no right or wrong answers and dont let anybody tell you that there is.
When my son had his bonemarrow transplant he was in the hospital on July 4th. There was a courtyard out side his window and we bbqed outside of it so he could see us and then had a picnic inside his room after we cooked it. Memories they are great and we made lots of them even under the worst circumstances. As long as you are together as a family that is all that matters. Praying that your miracle continues and for everyday to have great memories.
God bless

Hi! A friend of mine told me about Jacob, so I have come to share & rejoice in your great news! I am from Winnsboro, La, & my little brother was diagnosed with lung cancer in June of this year. It has metastised to his liver, & brain. Let me say that he is 30 yrs old, & 6"1, but still my little brother. We love to hear stories of people with their Faith In Jesus!!! He is our only hope!!!
I have started praying for Jacob, & all the rest of your family. My brother, Mike Johns, has 2 boys, Grant-4, & Myles-2 & a wonderful wife, Jen. I also have 2 boys 14, & 5, no girls, so I know how wonderful it is to have a house full of vibrant boys!! We love our boys, too!! We hold on to the scripture John 10:10. On Mike's door we have posted "I have come to give Mike life, & to give it to him more abundantly!! Jesus" He has also come to give Jacob a life more abundantly!!! Never give up!! Know that we as your Christian Family stand behind you & lift you up to God!!! Praise God for Jacob & Mike's total healing!!

My heart is so full tonight. Let me tell you, I have been visiting for weeks and since day one I have been hooked on Jacob. I have a thing for blue eyed blondes. I have a 6 year old and a 21 month old myself. I was reading your journal tonight and you are praising everyone for their part in the prayer warriors. I wanted to let you know what you have done for me. I came here originally to offer words of friendship, comfort and a cheerful message to brighten you and Jacob's days. Instead, I have found such inspiration, faith and miracles before my eyes. I can truly say Jacob has brought me closer to Christ. I am a Christian woman. I regretful say that I am not a scripture qouter though. Only elementary level things. I love, believe and definately have faith. I know I am not quite the person I ought to be. I can say I try each and every day. Witnessing Jacob and the miracle he is and the miracle he has received has changed that. I try a little harder and pray a lot better. I have always relied on prayer but not quite sure if I was doing it 'right' Since meeting these children on caring bridge I pray unselfishly, love with out seeing and my heart breaks without knowing. I want to thank you, Jacob and all of the other caringbridge children that I have come to love as my own. I come here every day to get my "Jacob" fix and to be given a new lesson in life. I am forever grateful for that and I wanted to let you know what you have done for me. You are always in my heart and in my prayers.

Hi,
I only recently heard about Jacob and had gone to his site only on Monday. He just reached right into my heart! I have been praying for him and all of you. My prayers have been of course for Jacob to be healed!
Tonight I have just been sitting here at the computer praising and thanking Jesus for His precious love and mercy! My heart is so full of joy! I can imagine that how you are feeling must be like what Mary felt the first time she saw her son, after He had risen from the dead. Just utter, complete, joy and love for such a gracious God!
We are Catholic and on Tuesday I went before the Blessed Sacrament and just placed Jacob and Jeremiah (another little guy that we are praying for) right before Him. It is just with complete joy and gratitude that I hear this news!
We will continue to hold him up in prayer. That the Chemo will be effective and with few side effects, that your family will be held up in His hands, and, of course, that your little guy will soon find himself totally healed!
God Bless You always.

Heather...we will continue to pray without fail. I have to admit, I feel in debt to you. Praying for Jacob can sometimes feel like such a small offering in the midst of my helpless feelings of wanting to make everything better for Jacob. Each time I read your journal entry, I feel my faith renewed. I feel closer to God. I feel as though He is listening to all of us and that brings me to such an awesome point in my life. Because of Jacob, my family talks daily about how important being a Christian, walking with God and praying is. Because you allowed us to walk this journey with you, to pray for Jacob and your family, you have given us something bigger than you could ever imagine. The Duckworth family has shown us an incredible example of Christianity. Because you taught us to FROG, we now have been able to share with others...placing frog sticker symbols on every letter and letter. Jacob has given me a reason to make a habit of talking with God several times a day. I'm sure there are others writing in just like us...so no, THANK YOU, dear Duckworth Family, for giving us a reason to be faithful, to pray and be the type of persons that God wants us to be. Now that the lesson is learned, it's time for Jacob to have complete healing. God Bless You All Today and Always

As always, reading your entry brings such tears, peace, joy, and strenght to me. You are amazing. Not just for what you do for Jacob and your family, but for what you do for all of us. Even in your deepest times of need, you are lifting us all up in prayer, and strengthening the relationships we all have with Christ. What a woman of God you are.

I continue to pray for each of you, but especially for Jacob's comfort and your comfort in trusting the Lord.

We are praying, hoping and rejoicing in WV. Although Jacob is suffering the effects of the chemo, what a good sign that he wanted to buy his brothers a gift and go home. And his choice of a toy was perfect for 4 little boys! Your entries often remind us that each day is a gift from God. Our children are blessings to be treasured. As a grandmother, I certainly treasure my grandson as well as my whole family including my 84 year old mother and 85 year old dad. Not long ago I made the statement that it takes a lot of patience to be in a family. Everyone can no doubt identify with that thought. We need to strive for that patience. We need to try to understand where that other person is coming from. We need to take the time to listen and care about others. And you have reminded us of these things. We also need to spend lots more time with God, and many are doing just that since you are sharing Jacob's journey. You always thank us for praying. I want to thank you for sharing your faith, thoughts, hope, heartbreaks, joys and miracles. May we all cherish our time with our loved ones more today. May God continue to bless Jacob and your family. You are loved.

Two words keep coming to my mind, "Powerful" & "Amazing"! I can't add much more. Except maybe this..."Hope". If your Jacob has taught me anything, or reaffrimed my weary soul, it is this, never, ever give up hope. It is the Gift God gives us to cling to when all else fails.

Blessings to you all!

Dear Duckworth Family --

I am so pleased to hear of Jacob's progress but not really surprised in the least. I have a belief that we are all connected at some level - not one that we generally are consciously aware of but there nonetheless. It is when we come together as a group to acknowledge that connection (by way of so many prayer warriors asking for the same thing) that the connection strengthens. It is that connection, I believe, the creates the power and the energy to create the healing. For the connection, you see, is God!

As I said in an earlier post, not one of us knows exactly how much time we have here on this Earth. Spending that time wisely, by way of celebrating life, is the best gift we can give to all - ourselves, each other, and God.

My prayers for all of you will continue as they will for all who in the hurricane effected areas. Have a wonderful day today and tomorrow and why not, for ever???

Much love from Atlanta ---

What a beautiful update, it is amazing the feeling you have inside when witnessing a miracle.
I want to share a little story about my daughter. When she was one month old they flew her from our local ped's hospital to the PCCU at the nearest children's where she remained in the hospital for 8 months living a life of miracles. She arrested after having a central line inserted and the compressions moved the line into a heart shape, we knew it was a sign of something special. We were told she wasn't not going to make it but she did. She caught RSV and then Roda virus which for her was life threatening but she pulled through. Then when she had a surgery and bled through every hole in her body she turned around and started laughing 2 days later. She then got a enterococous infection which she fought fiercely at christmas.
Although she was taken from us we still remain thankful that each one of those times the prayers were answered, a miracle was given as he left her with us for another precious moment. There were many other incidences where we could have lost her but I will keep it short.

I wanted to share this story with you not to pour our trouble out to you but to remind you(not that I think you need much reminding) that God grants many, many miracles over and over again. If you need one again (which I pray you won't) don't give up thinking that you already received one, she was proof He continues to answer prayers.

Keeping you in my prayers.

Heather, I'm so happy to read todays post. I can't even begin to imagine what you and your family are going thru emotionally. I'm sure you have your feeling of joy guarded but like you said its a pure miracle. GOD IS GOOD!! I think its awesome that you have a faith so strong.

I'm so sorry that Jacob is having all the horrible side effects of Chemo but it is for complete healing so though its ugly it is still so beautiful (if that makes sense).

by The Rev. CHARLES G. FINNEY

"We are to believe that we shall receive--something--what? Not something, or anything, as it happens, but some particular thing we ask for. We are not to think that God is such a being, that if we ask a fish, he will give us a serpent, or if we ask bread, he will give us a stone. But he says, "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." With respect to the faith of miracles, it is plain that they were bound to believe they should receive just what they asked for--that the very thing itself should come to pass. That is what they were to believe. Now what ought men to believe in regard to other blessings? Is it a mere loose idea, that if a man prays for a specific blessing, God will by some mysterious sovereignty give something or other to him, or something to somebody else, somewhere? When a man prays for his children's conversion, is he to believe that either his children will be converted, or somebody's else children, and it is altogether uncertain which? All this is utter nonsense, and highly dishonorable to God. No, we are to believe that we shall receive the very things that we ask for."

This is just a peice of what he had to say however, I read it and thought wow GOD has given us what we asked for... Jacob to get better. He is showing us that he indeed is hearing our prayers and that he will give us what we pray for. Again, GOD IS GOOD!!!

PS- I think it would be a wonderful idea for Donny to bbq in the hospital parking lot:).

Dear Heather.
I have been rejoicing along with everyone else for the miraculous workings in Jacob's life (and your family's). Thank you for sharing the article. Our five year old fell on the playground last night and I instantly knew that she had broken her wrist. I scooped her up and tried to comfort her when she suddenly said, "Jesus, help me." Oh, the faith of a little child to remind me to put my trust in him. I prayed for her immediately and seven hours later we were home with a splint and assurances that it was not broken despite three people telling me in the ER that it was. I have no doubt that God was at work. We will continue to pray for you and your family and for complete healing on this earth for Jacob.

I am in Indiana and a friend referred me to your site--what an amazing family you all are! Yesterday was the first time I viewed your site, but it gives me so much joy and inspiration to be able to read it. Thank you for sharing your story with so many people. Jacob is one amazing kid, and he is very blessed to have such an amazing family and support group. My daughter was diagnosed with AML in Jan 2005. She is currently in remission, and it is people like Jacob (and of course his family) who give us much hope. Jacob will of course be in our prayers. Heather--your strength is AMAZING! As a mother seeing your pain is a hard thing to bear, but these kids are so resilient and they handle things so well. Again--thank you for sharing your site with so many others, I look forward to shring in your joy for your amazing Jacob!

COOKING OUT IN A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT or as we like to think of it as a tailgate WITHOUT the football game. We have done it! Hubby and his best friend loaded our beat up gas grill into our beat up Dodge diesel pick up truck, headed up a VERY busy interstate highway and cooked hamburgers and hotdogs just beyond the hospital. Our son, Wes, was incarcerated last 4th of July after battling a horrible line infection- we almost lost him to septic shock. These farm boys must have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies with their 3 foot high flame but oh food never tasted so Heaven sent. So go ahead and plan your picnic. Let security know ahead of time so they can tell you where to park and cook. It is a memory well worth makiing. Praying for Jacob's complete recovery HERE!!!!! on Earth. Thanks for the boost of faith.

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful news of what God has done for Jacob. Just listening to your story and your faith is lifting MY faith!! You are touching more people than you know during your time of need.
The other reason that I felt compelled to drop you a line is because your Jacob and our Tim look so much alike that everyone in my family that I've shown Jacob's picture to - on your website - (the one where he's wearing the blue plaid shirt and laying down) thinks it's our Tim!
That alone touches me so much that I can't help but carry a special place in my heart for Jacob. I know we're strangers to you, but you have our prayers and love and faith and hope!!!! Get well soon JACOB, you're doing an AWESOME job and you're such a BRAVE boy!

Blessed be the name of our Lord, blessed be His name! Donnie - go for it! A Labor day picnic in the parking lot and serving others while doing so! I will donate to the picnic in the parking lot - hot dogs, burgers, chips, buns? You name it and it will be delivered to you. Set up a donation cup to assist with the cure for the many children enduring treatment at this time. Donnie you are a blessing and I am blessed to know you.

How the Lord continues to bless the many other people from your life's journey. God is good. He is the creator and almighty healer.

Heather your ability to write the updates provided are stellar! I draw strength each and every time I read the posting. I know that I too can make it through my journey. You touch my life each day and I thank you for that.

Continuing to storm heaven many times a day for Jacob. He is the AMAZING Jacob - he is a little lamb of God!

I placed the words from Mark Schultz' song "He's my son" as I listened to this song many times throughout Kyle's battle with ALL Leukemia. I continue to praise God for the works in our lives and thought that this song will help you too. You will shed tears I am confident when you hear the song but the tears are part of the healing.

Sending my love and embrace of hugs to all of you. We are here for you. Reach out and let us know how we can assist. Prayers are always there - no need to ask for prayer.

~ He's My Son ~
by Mark Schultz

I'm down on my knees again tonight
I'm hope'n this prayer will turn out right
See, there is a boy that needs your help
I've done all that I can do myself
His mother is tired
I'm sure you can understand
Each night as he sleeps
She goes in to hold his hand
And she tries
Not to cry
As the tears fill her eyes

Can you hear me
Am I getting through tonight
Can you see him
Can you make him feel all right
If you can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See, he's not just anyone, he's my son

Sometimes late at night I watch him sleep
I dream of the boy he'd like to be
I try to be strong and see him through
But God, who he needs right now is you
Let him grow old
Live life without this fear
What would I be
Living without him here
He's so tired
And he's scared
Let him know that you're there

Can you hear me
Am I getting through tonight
Can you see him
Can you make him feel all right
If you can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See, he's not just anyone, he's my son

Jacob you are AMAZING. I would love to meet you one day and see that beautiful smile in person. Everytime I see my kids smile I think of you. Words cannot describe the joy I feel that you are on the way to recovery and that you will be healed throughout this whole ordeal. I am just so sorry that you have had to suffer through all the terrible side effects. You have such a wonderful, loving and most of all faithfull family that will always be there for you. I hope and pray for the side effects be minimal. Next time they do scans that tumor will be very small or gone. I just have a good feeling about it. You have strenghtened my faith too and I am sure there are many more out there that you have even led to God because you are a miracle. If anyone read your story and didn't believe there was a God, I bet you have changed their mind. You are unbelievable and I am praying and frogging for you each and every day.

I do not know if you keep up with the this, but the counter on the guest book is almost at 500,000! It is amazing to think that almost a half million times, someone from somewhere has checked in on Jacob and I am sure started to pray. I know that God loves to hear from His children and this has certainly been an outcry to Him. He has honored our prayers as He heals Jacob. I would imagine that God heard from a "child" petitioning on Jacob's behelf that He has not heard from in many years. Jacob has become for some the road back to a loving and caring God! That is surely a huge accomplishment for a young boy in Florida battling cancer. God is so good! Thank you Heather for being Jacob's mouth to all of us by telling his story and then recounting the results. That has been a labor of love of your part. We are still praying here in East Texas...God bless you today!

Jacob and family,
I believe in prayer and the power of prayer. I
read and study my Bible believing each word that
is written. This week I took copies of Jacob's
page to school and gave one to every class. All
day teachers were on the internet reading and
students were gathered around. I saw teachers and
students praying together, I saw teachers and students
lifting their arms to praise God and give thanks.
Everyone was talking about God's miracle to Jacob.
There is a group of students that call themselves
goths and claim there is no God. One of the girls
came up to me at lunch and asked me if I thought
she could get to know Jesus. She told me she was
thinking about what had happened for Jacob. We went
and prayed in the restroom with another teacher.
The girl accepted Jesus and I gave her a Bible the
next day. Today she is coming to my home to study
with me. The devil was defeated and through Jacob's
miracle sinners are coming to know Jesus. This is
a miracle and Amazing Jacob is healed and a witness
to it. I claim it and I believe it. Love, Rose

From one mother to another..I know that as a parent so many decisions we make we tend to doubt or hope that it is the right one. I don't know Jacob personally but through your entries I feel like I do and I bet that if the decision of whether to have chemo or not was all his, he would say most definitely yes. I know it is so difficult to watch him go through the treatment but he is a fighter, you know that!

Keep putting it all in Gods hands. He does work in mysterious ways. I read some of the entries in the guest book and see believers that have become stronger believers and non believers that now believe all due to your amazing Jacob!

My prayers and thoughts continue to be with you daily. I have emailed everyone in my email address book to pray for Jacob and have encouraged them to email their friends!

You and your family are the pillar of strength for Jacob. You all are truly amazing, like him!

Very Truly Yours, Andrea

There is no doubt in my mind that you have done the right thing in choosing to do more chemo. Remember how Jacob chose to stay in the hospital, rather than go home, last week when the doctors said they could do no more? I think that God had whispered into his ears .. "Stay a little longer. I am going to give you another medical treatment, and the folks on earth won't figure it out unless you're in the right place, at the right time."

You touched me (again) with your journal entry. You said that you were thankful for the prayer partners. Well, I was just telling another mother who has shared a similar journey with her young son, just the opposite. I was thanking her for sharing her family's journey and introducing me to other families. I feel that the time spent in prayer for each of the families is the most important thing that I do each day. It is the part of my day that really matters in the big picture of this world. I am not a doctor and will never find a cure for cancer, I am financially stretched and will never make a large, memorable donation. I am not gifted with words to say the things you and other mothers need to hear. But....You give me, a complete stranger, the honor of joining you specificly in prayer. It is not something I take lightly. It is I who should be thanking you often for sharing and allowing me to join you in prayer. But, I gotta tell you that my heart has done "the happy dance" this week in thanking God for the new numbers! I continue to pray for Jacob's healing and daily comfort, but I follow your example in also being thankful daily -- thankful for a 5 hour pass, thankful for the love of brothers, thankful for a silly toy that elicits brotherly humor, thankful for your supportive medical team, and thankful for the love that surrounds your family. I am sorry that I never seem to have the "right" words to put in your guestbook or the right scripture to uplift you; but please know that I check on you and pray multiple, multiple times each and every day. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to talk with God each day for you!

Heather, I wish that I could meet you, I am sure that we would be fast friends. I think you are a terrific mother, wife, and person. Even though I couldn't imagine what you have been though, I have shared in your miracle and have felt all the same things you wrote in your update, since learning about Jacob from Trenton's website. It's like you took the words right out of my head. I can't explain why, but the minute I saw Jacob's picture I felt a connection and started praying so hard for his recovery. I am the mother of two sons and I'm a first grade teacher. You can't possibly know how much your family, and this journey to heal your little boy has affected me. But know that I am praying with you, and so are all my children (Jacob is on our school prayer list, too). I don't know what God's plan is for Jacob--but I have a really good feeling about this!! GOD BLESS you and Donnie and all your beautiful boys, especially Jacob!!! Have a great Labor Day weekend together and may it ease Jacob's discomfort. Be well.

What a great update and story. Your family is being touched by so many all over and that in itself is amazing. As much as you enjoy our guestbook entries, you truly give me the inspiration to be the best mom, wife and person I can be. God Bless you with many more miracles to come.

~Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen~

Hi Jacob and Family!
We are so overwelmed with praise and excitment!!! Yes PRAYER DOES WORK!!! I thought you might find this intresting... A study was done about prayer that we heard about on FOX news, they had a doctor on, I believe. The study showed that a person had 45% better chance of recovering from an injury, or sickness if they were prayed for. The best part is some of these people were not belivers, and or they did not know that they had people praying for them! We will not stop praying until Jacob is 100% cancer free!!! Not just in remission but CANCER FREE!!

Jacob, you are one AWESOME kid! Do you know how many, MANY people care about you?! I live in California and I pray for you every day.

Heather, I wanted to let you know that one caringbridge little girl, Rachel Hansen, in MN was at death's door 4 months ago. She has Ewing's Sarcoma and was diagnosed at age 2 (she's now 5). Well, she's starting kindergarten next week. That's something NONE of her doctors ever gave the family any hope for. Soooooo, I'm looking forward to Jacob carrying his backpack to school someday too! We have a mighty, mighty God. In Psalm 103 it says "Bless the Lord Oh my soul...He heals ALL your diseases" -- I'm praying that this week for Jacob!

I am so glad I ran across your amazing Jacob's webpage, actually I needed to read about a miracle, I'm crying as I read your entry on his marker numbers, how absolutely wonderful but I so understand your hesitation, my husband and I are not ready to give up on our child either and he is so full of life it's hard to see him any other way, it's a relief to read your journal and to hear the faith you have in the lord and your child and that your miracle is happening, we will pray your prayer requests and keep the faith in a full miracle.

I was very busy last week with my own son and my other boys with starting school and all. When I checked in on you this week I could not believe all that had gone on in such a short period of time. I am amazed by your amazing Jacob! With all the heart-wrenching stories right now in this so-called "cancer world" we live in, to read of your miracle is so wonderful, so reassuring. Your strength and faith is no less than amazing either. Thank you for sharing your family with us. Thank you for your honesty too. You are great witnesses of the Lord through this web page! I continue to pray for Jacob and your family, and there are many people who visit my son's web page with whom I have urged to pray for your Jacob as well. Keep up the good fight! Just stopping by to check in....sending many hugs and prayers from Orlando. Jacob, I cannot tell you how many times a day I think of you and just stop what I'm doing to pray for you. Hoping like crazy that you are tolerating the chemo and aren't having any nasty side affects. You are definately wrapped in the loving arms of Our Lord & Savior (and mommy's too!) I directed my sister to your website and asked her to pray for you too! She says "He is absolutely the most adorable boy!!" My young nieces said "Mommy who is that boy??" and she told them all about you, so you have a 3 new admirers. Keep on fighting brave little guy. YOU ARE SOOOOOOO SPECIAL AND SOOOOOOO LOVED!

I have just finished reading your journal and the story of Jacob telling you to "turn off the light." Then I read the story of the tumor marker stat and the amazing results (from nearly 800 down to 35??) Wow.

Keep remaining close to Jacob and keep his brothers near him, too. As a born-again Christian, it sounds to me like Jacob has undergone the same battle as his namesake underwent where he wrestled with an angel and lived to tell about it. As it says in Scripture, Jacob named the place, "Penuel," for "I have come face to face with God and have lived." I believe that your earnest and God-fearing presence with Jacob, with your obvious complete love and joy in him, caused him to fight when the time came to go. I will pray that he progresses smoothly now to good health.

If this is what has happened, then Jacob is not only amazing, he is truly a child of God, and God has placed His hands upon him. I will pray that this is true and that God uses Jacob mightily.

God bless you, and thank you for sharing your stories of Jacob. You have blessed my life in this day.

Hi Jacob! I start off every morning by checking on you and I love to see those beautiful blue eyes smiling at me. Although you will never meet me I feel like you could be one of my nephews. The closeness I feel to you is all due to the way your Mother so openly and honestly describes all the happenings in your life. Jacob's story had touched my heart. I have a Jacob too. This week our family gathered around the computer and cried as we read you Jacob's story. We believe in prayer as you do. So we have prayed for Jacob since that night. My youngest is a blonde little girl with a loving caring spirit and she has talked to everyone about praying for Jacob. We are so excited to hear your news and we all cried again just because of God's love for us and his answers to prayers. We are continuing to pray for Jacob and for you and your family. GOD is truly GOOD! With all that is going on in the world today that depresses us so much, it is such a blessing to check in on this precious little boy that all of us have come to love as our own and see what GOD can really do through prayer. It is a so wonderful that none of you have given up even when you have been at the lowest of lows. You are being rewarded for you faith and belief in the Lord and his ways. I commend you so much for keeping the faith. I have 3 wonderful little girls and I can not say that I could remain as strong and faithful as you all have. I do know that with the Lord all things are possible and the power of prayer is so amazing. I am so thankful for what the Lord has done for you all. I just hope and pray that things continue on this wonderful path. Always know that all of you are in my thoughts, prayers, and daily life routine. You have the support of so many and I know that that is so comforting to you. We are all standing in your corner Jacob and hopefully GOD is one of your biggest fans. Keep FROGGING and we all will keep hopping along with you!! Lots of hugs, kisses, and love are being sent to you.

I just visited your website for the first time. We have a nephew (Jaxon) and a niece (Robin) who have undergone similar health challanges like you. I will add you to my nightly rosary for good health like I do them each night. Children are such a miracle and blessing givin to us and we cherish every moment with them. We have four married children and five grandchildren and feel so blessed that we have not had to experience what your families have endured all these months. God bless all of you.

Hi Buddy,

I hope your are feeling okay, with the chemo and all. I am praying that you don't have a lot of side affects. My son was very excited yesterday, because he saw a white frog, yes it was white. He immiediatly thought of you. He told me to tell you that he is thinking of you and that he prays that you get better soon. So he and his brothers can come over and play X-box with you and your brothers. Also, he has his first football game tomorrow and he will play in your honor. He said even he looses :), but he will try his best.

Jacob and family,

I will be praying that he doesn't have much or any side effects. I want you know we will always be praying for you Jacob and family.
Your truly a trooper, just remember we will always be there in spirit and prayer to help you and your family.

Always FROGing for Jacob!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Jacob....

I'm sure that it doesn't take me to tell you how much you are loved. Not only by your parents, your brothers, your grandparents, your aunts and uncles and your friends and neighbors; but by a lot of people who have learned about you through the sweet words that your mother writes. We are all praying that you will soon feel back to your funny-face self again and be able to go home and play!!!

Good morning Jacob and Heather and family! We continue to FROG and pray without ceasing for Jacob's continued miracles. God is good. Jacob is His little lamb. Jacob gives a new meaning to AMAZING. The dictionary states Amazing as: To affect with great wonder; astonish.

Jacob you affect many with great wonder each and every day. Your mom and dad do the same to all your faithful vistors that read your story, sign your book, vist at the hospital, etc. The Duckworth family is definitely amazing and they are just what the dictionary describes. You all affect us with GREAT wonder.

I leave you with this thought and verse today:
Job 9:10 NIV
He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
miracles that cannot be counted.
Job 9:10 NLT
His great works are too marvelous to understand. He performs miracles without number.

I believe that our Lord and Savior will continue to perform miracles for His little lamb Jacob.

Hayden,
be patient, as I told Eli last week. It is hard to do that, when you have practiced just as hard or harder than those that get to play, but that is part of being a freshman. I went through this with my 2 boys and I believe it was harder on me than them. You could just see them from the sideline wanting to get in there. Sometime this season, you will get in there, even though it may be for a second. But you will get your turn, keep up the hard work.
Tina,
I have been away from computer access for about 5 days, but the first thing i come to is the caringbridge network. I may not sign on a lot, but i read the journal daily.

I have been reading the Journal entries for Jacob and am truly amazed. I read your August 31st entry and when I started, was very depressed, you see, the 31st is the one year anniversary of my Mom's Passing. I sent the following by e-mail this morning because I was having internet issues, but in the last few minutes they seem to have resolved themselves (after 3 days of frustration), so now I can post it here, in case the e-mail didn't go through:

I just had to write you this morning after reading a story in a back issue of Guideposts.

The story is in the April 2001 issue of Guideposts, entitled "Amazing Comeback" by Andres Galarraga. When he was playing baseball with the Atlanta Braves and at the top of his form, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and had to take a year off for chemo and radiation treatments. On opening day that season, he was feeling very sad because he wasn't playing. His brother called him from his native town in Venezuela and told him that there was an old woman in town that he had to call because he woman had a message from God for him. He called her and she told him of a dream she had - she was instructed to send him a rosary from his native town and that he was to set up a special place in his home to pray for his healing and always have a white rose in that place to keep him focused on his prayers. Andres' wife went to the store to buy some rose bushes to plant, but could only find orange ones, so she bought those, and they hoped God wouldn't mind. Each night between 6-7 p.m., the entire family would gather in the special place they made and prayed together. One day Andres' wife went out to cut a fresh rose and came in exclaiming that three of the orange rose bushes had turned white! He went out to look and sure enough, he saw three bushes covered with white rose blooms.

The following is directly from his story:

"Then, while I was recovering from my next round of chemotherapy, I had a very powerful dream of my own. In it, I was sitting in my living room watching TV. I sensed something behind me. I felt strong arms lifting me from the sofa. There was a glowing presence, big and white and beautiful. It carried me effortlessly down the hallway, almost like I was floating. The being gently put me down on my bed. I knew it was a dream, but I wanted to see who was carrying me. I couldn't make out a face, but I was filled with such an incredible feeling of peace.

"Suddenly I woke up, drenched in sweat. Something was different. It felt like God was there with me personally, closer than he'd ever been. I woke Eneyda (his wife) up and told her what had happened. 'I think that during the dream, God was taking all the cancer out of my body,' I said."

As soon as I read that far in the story, I got goosebumps all over and the journal entry about Jacob yelling about the bright light came into my mind ... which really gave me goosebumps even more! At the time you wrote that, you had just recently received the devastating news of disease progression and thought that was Jacob's first glimpse into the spiritual afterlife. Now, with the miraculous news of Jacob's tumor marker readings, I believe that the bright light he saw was healing him. He truly has been touched by God.

But, to conclude Andres' story, the next time he went back to the doctor, 50% of his tumor was gone. The next time, it was 75% gone ... then 90%. They continued to pray until the tumor was completely gone. The next season, he went into the locker room on opening day to put on his uniform. But first, he bowed his head in prayer. He put on his uniform and during his first game back, he hit a home run.

Blessings,

God bless Jacob. So happy and overjoyed to hear your news.
I am praying that the chemo doesn't make Jacob so sick this time and there will be no painful potty issues.
Thank You, Dear God, for hearing our prayers.

Praying hard for Jacob and his wonderful family! Praying the chemo isn't causing Jacob too much discomfort and that his brothers are enjoying school and his parents are getting some rest and everyone is getting lots of those great smiles and silly faces!

What awesome news! From the first time I read Jacob's website about a week ago, I have been praying for a miracle (as I know so many others have been as well)! What an inspiration to see the miracle as it unfolds. I will continue to pray for this miracle and complete healing for Jacob here on earth. Can't wait to see future inspirational updates.

I came by your website through our friend and neighbor, Kylie Barry. What a beautiful family you have been blessed with!! My own two boys (5 & 7) loved looking at all of your pictures on the website. We are praying for your family. I'm so happy to hear that the tumor has gone down, and I pray that the chemo goes as well as possible.

I am truly moved by the awsome work God is doing in your son's life. He obviously has VERY BIG plans for this little man! Remember that the only way to have a testimony is to go through a test. Imagine the TESTIMONY Jacob will have when this is all over and he is telling all of his friends and family members about all of the miracles God has done in his life. I pray that Jacob will be completely healed and that he will be able to live a full and rich life. My prayers are with your whole family as you go through this trying time, but God is bigger than any tumor and he is stronger than the Chemo! God bless each of you and I pray that the Peace of the Lord will rest on each of you as you go through this round of chemo.

I hope the best for Jacob, your other trips, and your eldest. My wife and I had triplets last Dec 2nd '04 at 29 wks. Our smallest, Jonah, weighed in at 1lb 13oz. And as we look at them now and look at pictures from their first days we cry. But all the more rejoice for God's goodness.
