Zoey’s Story

Site created on March 14, 2024

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Last week Zoey developed a cough on Wednesday which was further diagnosed as Influenza B this past Saturday after she started spiking temperatures. By Monday she started to look like she was having difficulty breathing so we made the decision to bring her to the ER at U of MN Fairview Childrens Hospital. She received a duoneb, steroids, and deep nasal suctioning which helped temporarily. We brought her home but by mid-day on Tuesday she started to appear lethargic and working hard to breathe again. We came back to the ER where they ultimately admitted her to the hospital for acute hypoxic respiratory failure. We have been here since Tuesday, and she has been keeping us on our toes. I will copy the previous updates and then continue to give more updates throughout the day as we know more.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Anna Zinnel

Well, overnight I continued to have low BPs, ended up needing more IV Boluses on top of the regular maintenance fluids, symptomatically in feeling better, not great, still dehydrated but better. There is chatter that I could maybe go home on IV fluids, which I assume I’d need a PICC line, but we’ll see. I’m 100% in favor of finishing recovering in the comfort of my own home with my family. I honestly need a break from being in the hospital between Zoey and I, and I do eventually need to return to work, which of course, is in a hospital. I think I’ve spent 2.5 days at home on the last 3 weeks, I want my bed back for good.

Bleh.
We’ll see how the afternoon goes and what they decide.
Zoey is doing great, she’s with her Auntie Netty today, and having a good time. I would rather take all of Zoeys sicknesses and put them on myself rather than having to watch her suffer a minute longer so I’m happy she’s doing better.

We got the lab orders for her initial immunology testing, and her immunology appointment will be in beginning of May, so not a terribly long wait.

Will update later!
