Zina’s Story

Site created on September 22, 2018

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting!  On Tuesday September 18, 2018, Carlo and I were told I have been diagnosed with lung cancer, specifically in one lymph nodes in my chest.  Oddly enough, the primary source for the cancer has not been determined, as there's no lung cancer in my lungs (supposedly... I do have a lung nodule).  So now we are on this journey together and the next steps include more tests to find the source (rule out other things).  My cancer will be discussed at the local Tumour Board on Tuesday September 25th.  I will be meeting the Oncology Team in the near future.  We will keep you updated as things progress.  If you don't mind, we would like to ask the following:

1.   Prayers please!   Lots and lots of prayers!  Not just for me, but for Carlo and the kids,  that my tests can be scheduled very soon, and for the oncology team to have great insight and wisdom in addressing my cancer.

2.  Remain hopeful!  I am!  I have no symptoms, barring a simply annoying cough.

3.   Please understand that Carlo and I have very low tolerance related to a culture of blame around having a diagnosis of cancer.  I have never been a smoker.   Please simply let's not discuss if my lifestyle led to cancer, etc.  This type of conversation is not welcomed.  Thank you for understanding.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Zina Bartolotta

Hi everyone!  It’s been awhile since I gave an update.  I had my open partial left nephrectomy on June 4th, to remove the very small kidney mass.  The results are in and it is Kidney cancer.  We are relieved and grateful for answers!   Honestly, if we had not had the mysterious malignant cells in my chest last year, we would not have found this kidney cancer until it was well advanced.

God truly works in mysterious ways.

This cancer was caught very early, but treatment is being discussed related to the odds of re-occurrence.  Also,  the doctor’s are again discussing how the kidney mass could have resulted in the malignant cells in the chest.  Which is why treatment may be warranted.

I believe Jesus answered our prayers of healing regarding lung cancer.  I feel more at peace now than ever.

Continued prayers of healing being requested for this kidney cancer.  Carlo and I meet with a renal oncologist in one week (in Hamilton).  Prayers for guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you to all for the supportive prayers, meals, help with Kathleen.

Love!

Z
