9 months post Treatment scans are CLEAR!!

I meant to get around to posting on the 6 month post treatment scans but it slipped away from me.

We headed down Thursday night and got to stay at my cousin Adam’s house. Dave and Zeke went for his MRI of the abdomen and X Ray of the lungs at 6 am Friday morning. I stayed with Quinn and Hayes for this appointment. We then saw our oncologist at 1:20 pm for scan review. I was able to make this appointment with Dave and Zeke as my cousin offered to watch Hayes and Quinn.

Is it weird to say we were excited to see our oncologist Dr. Lange? We did tele-health visits the last two times so it was so nice to be there in person with her and she enjoyed seeing how much Zeke has grown!

40 lbs and 40 inches tall. He is thriving! We need to work on his meat intake as his hemoglobin/iron is a bit low. We will do an iron study at the next scan date in 3 months just to see what’s going on. Zeke still struggles with eating meat. Some days there are tears and there may be some bribery with treats if he eats one piece. As I have heard, “You need to be more stubborn than your child”- our house is full of stubbornness! Zeke’s white blood count was also a little low. But he has had a cold before the last set of scans and this one so we are hoping that by the next set of scans he will be healthy so we can look at if this is recovering or if something else is going on. BUT we are just blaming the colds.

Zeke is 4 now! He started going to preschool a few days a week. This has been a change for him and some days are harder than others but we are powering through as when he has the big crocodile tears- I just want to give in and let him stay home with me- like it was for about 2 years but I just remind myself that this is healthy for him. He has not had PT now for 6 weeks but will be going for an eval to see where we are with that.

We enjoyed every moment at the cabin this summer that we could. We have been spending time out doors and at the shack and my parents farm getting ready for deer hunting.

Our lives haven’t changed much even with all the COVID stuff going on. We enjoy our time with family as much as possible.

If the scans are clear this next time around in January, we will move to scans every 4 months!

I am sure I had a lot more to say. We sat in the clinic yesterday- played our favorite (pac man) arcade game waiting for our appointment and you could hear a child screaming- this is common in the clinic and on the 7th floor- it immediately brought tears to my eyes because that was Zeke. Zeke used to scream about getting his weight and height checked- oh and the arm squeezes (blood pressure) were the worst! This time around Zeke did not cry or scream at all. He put the mask on that puts him to sleep like a champ. He let them do his blood pressure, temp and height and weight with a smile. As we were walking out and New Rhabdomyosarcoma patient was walking in.  How I pray that the treatment is kind to their body and the cancer meets it’s match.

Thank you for your continued love, prayers and support as we continue on this path. We are still making our way through and cherishing the time we get together!

Pictures: Sour Patch kids for a treat in the woods at the shack in Ely. 1st day of Preschool and 1st Grade. Road picture- Quinn talking, Hayes running away, Zeke has duck lips with his new overalls and googles for his kid chain saw. Mask and sun glasses at the cancer clinic yesterday. 4th birthday party with his cowboy hat and gun!
