Tuesday night Zayden asked to go to bed at 7pm. I went into work as per normal. Zayden slept through the night and we didn’t even give him any sleeping medication he normally needs to go to bed. Josh got him up at 7am and took him to grandmas per normal. I got to grandmas at 3 and Grandma said Zayden went back to bed when he got to her house and slept until 1030! Then went back to bed shortly after this and slept until 130pm. He didn’t feel like eating or doing anything as he was tired. This was super concerning to us as the last time this happened his blood counts were low and he needed transfusions. We called the on call doc around 5 when Zayden again asked us if he could go to bed, and they believed what we also believed to be true, his counts were probably low and would need to get admitted. We all made arrangements for Harley, called off work, got bags packed and ate a little bit of dinner as we knew this process was going to take forever. The clinic was closing so we had to go to the emergency room. This is not a place Zayden is ok with, just driving past it he always says “I hate that place” and now we’re taking him there. One major issue he has is the traumatic port access they did last time and they wrapped his pulse ox so tight around his finger it made him cry. So the clinic said we could request a nurse from the HOT unit to come down and access him. (Hematology Oncology Transplant) so we get to the emergency room late, like 630pm. And immediately Josh asks for a hot nurse…and the poor girl looks at him like he’s crazy until we realize she thinks he means an attractive nurse and quickly re-words it to the HOT unit nurse to come down to access Zayden’s port 🤣 we were dying 🤣 of course this takes forever as of course the unit is busy and shift change 🙈  But Zayden does well with the access and labs are drawn and more waiting. We get word pretty late that Zayden’s hemoglobin is stable at 12, His platelet went up to 65! But his ANC (risk for infection number) dropped even more to 100. Great news that Zayden doesn’t need any blood or platelets, but now to figure out the reason why he’s so lethargic and they go back and forth on whether or not to admit for IV antibiotics and watch him or to let us go home and come back Friday to recheck. Lots of begging and pleading and they let us go home with his port accessed with follow up appointments. It was a long stressful, emotional night but are grateful Zayden is “ok” any fevers and we will have to come right back. Until this month is over don’t mind me being an emotional mess! Thanks for all the love and support from our family and friends! We wouldn’t be able to do it without you!
