Newest Update

Journal entry by Zandy Lazarski

Hello! It's Been Awhile!

First of all I have to apologize that it has taken me so long to post an update. The last 2 months was a little bit harder then I thought. So let me start with the good news, I just finished my last 20th week of chemo last week!!  It's hard to believe my journey started almost 5 months ago, but as they say, 1 down 3 more to go.  Hopefully, the hardest part is behind me:).  So here is the latest update...  Now that I'm done with chemo, my team of doctors want me to recuperate and get stronger before they operate to remove the cancer.  As of right now my surgery is scheduled for May 14th for my double mastectomy.  The doctors have prepared me that the recovery process will be difficult, probably about 3 to 4 weeks of a lot of discomfort and not being able to do much, (sorry honey, can't do laundry 😏 ).  About 4 weeks after surgery, I will begin the next stage, 6 weeks of radiation.  Then finally the last step will be going back into surgery for reconstruction.  Boy, I'm exhausted just writing it all out:-).  Earlier this week I received more good news, my new MRI scan came back with very positive results. My doctors were very please at how much the cancer shrunk.  Getting this news makes all of this worth it:)

As of right now I'm still dealing with a lot of the crappy side effects of chemo (too many to name), but that's ok, because I know it's only going to get better from here on.  Some of you may know that one of my favorite things about the south side (where I grew up), is a place called Palermos on 95th. They serve one of my favorite pizzas in the world.  Well unfortunately, one of the side effects of chemo was that pizza tasted like metal to me.  I know I know, crazy thing to complain about, but if you ever tried Palermos pizza you would be sad too:-).  Well, hopefully in the next 2 or 3 weeks my taste buds return and I will be enjoying an amazing slice of Palermos pizza again!

Everyone has been wonderful to me and my family during this whole process.  I truly don't know what I have done in the past to deserve every one's kindness.  Yes cancer sucks, yes chemo was really hard but I know we all have busy lives and problems to deal with everyday within our families so when you take the time to say," hey how are you feeling?" that means a lot to me. I may not always get back to you right away or remember to return your phone call but please know your kindness and well wishes means a lot and really helps me though the day!
