Happy Birthday Zack!

Hi Friends and family,
I know it been a long while since I posted an update on our miracle boy. It’s been a very busy summer moving and getting into our routine here in Northern Virginia. We are enjoying having Rob home permanently and being together as a family again.

Today is Zack’s 19th birthday! 6 months ago we didn’t even know if he would be here to celebrate. But HE IS and he is healing. We are in awe everyday of what this kid is doing.

Zack has settled into a routine, which sets him up for success.
Here are just a few things that are keeping him busy:
Zack has a job. He is a shift leader at the local Dunkin'’ here in Burke. He is working full time and loves seeing neighbors and many of his former elementary and middle school teachers when they come in for their coffee.

Zack has also begun therapies again. We saw his new Occupational therapist today. We really like her. Of course it helps that she graduated from University of Delaware, where his girlfriend  goes to school. He will begin speech next week. Please continue to pray for brain connections particularly with coordination and executive brain functioning with speech.

We have set up a home gym down in the basement. Zack works out and runs everyday. He is gaining weight and getting his strength back. He looks amazing. Balance is his main physical challenge right now. We are looking in to a therapist who deals specifically with vestibular deficiencies.

Fishing is another thing He is enjoying. Our house overlooks a pond where he can fish. Of course there seem to be more turtles who try to take his hook. I included a picture of the first fish  he caught a few weeks ago.

After seeing a new TBI specialist down here, we decided that we are going to stay with Zack’s specialist in Hershey. She has agreed to continue seeing him and coordinating with therapist down here. We will be making the drive to Hershey monthly for the foreseeable future. If we have some extra time up there, we will definitely stop in for a visit.

There are still brain connections to be made, and I am seeing them happen. Zack is thriving.

I’ll end with this. Back in May, Zack was worried that he wasn’t going to be able to pay attention and watch an entire UGA football game or a Braves game. Well my sports loving boy is back! We were able to go to a Brave game this summer and are look forward to another at the end of the month. He has also taken off work every Saturday afternoon so he can watch his Dawgs play.

Keep those prayers and thumbs up coming.
