From Renee...Update on Zach:

Neutropenia is a condition that results when the body does not have enough neutrophils, an important white blood cell that fights infections. The lower your neutrophil count, the more vulnerable you are to infectious diseases. ... Severe neutropenia is defined as less than 500 per microliter (500/microL).

He is still considered neutropenic so he is still here. They’ll look at his counts again tomorrow but for now he’s in the best place here at Vanderbilt until his numbers climb back up.

24/48 hours after every round of chemo I give him an injection of a med that helps build up his white blood cells. Unfortunately it doesn’t kick in until 10 days after the injection is administered. (This coming Tuesday) This is very common toward the end of a patients chemo protocol because the body is just tired of constantly rebuilding.

So for those of you who like details like me....here they are. 😊

Thank you again for your kind thoughts and prayers for Zach and our family. He’s pretty chill and taking it in stride. Thankful for his outlook. 💪💛🙏🏻
