I still can't believe I am writing this. I have woken up every morning since November 11th hoping wishing and praying that time had somehow gone backwards while I was sleeping and we could have changed things, But that is not the case and God called you home and what a beautiful home I can imagine it is! The day we found out you passed I talked with Peyton and Jada and we drew some pictures of what daddy might be seeing in Heaven and if it's anything like they imagined it sounds pretty great!! Movies, Popcorn, chips, sunshine, beaches, jumping on the trampoline and lots of signs telling you how much they love you and miss you and lots of hearts and some beautiful colors! I promise you they will remember you and they will hold you in their hearts forever. We will always talk about you and they will hold on to all the things they remember about you and how amazing of a daddy you were to them!

I am not really sure how to write one of these. I have read others that were done so beautifully and now here I sit trying to do right by you! And it's snowing again so I know you're here!  Yes you were my cousin but I Always considered you a brother. I even called you my brother to friends  and I consider your babies my niece and nephew. I was just Aunt Kia.  We were family, I remember growing up together me, Karie and you. The 3 of us caused some trouble i'm sure and had a bond like no other. If we could just go back to Uncle Mark and Aunt Debs front porch and play a little hockey again man I'd give anything for that and I know you would too! I think we will have to find some hockey sticks and pucks and teach Peyton and Jada! Them vs me and Karie I bet they win!!

Zachary was born June 23, 1987 in Glenwood Springs, CO to Lisa Holder. Zachary was the first boy grand baby and having 4 uncles and a grandpa he quickly became everyone's buddy. Zachary was an ornery little fella and he was cute as a button and didn't know a stranger. He had a laugh that could fill a room and a smile like sunshine! I would say Zachary was blessed with many "Bonus"  Dads and Moms to be honest. So many people cared so much about him and were an essential part of his upbringing and his life to this day. He was our silly funny boy that will be forever missed.

Zachary lived in Remington for a large portion of his life he attended school at Remington Elementary and he went to Tri-County Junior Senior High School but did not graduate from Tri-County as he ended up moving to Warsaw, OH and finished school there and is a 2006 graduate of Riverview High School in Warsaw, Ohio. Zach also graduated from the building trades program that was offered at Riverview as a skilled journeyman .  Upon graduation Zachary moved back to Indiana and has resided in the Remington and Fowler area since.

After graduation Zachary was a skilled journeyman in building trades but he also had some other desires in life. He loved farming and he loved diesel trucks! Zachary spent some time working for Federer Farms in Wolcott and he always enjoyed his time working on the farm and one day hoped to get back to that type of work. But most recently Zachary had been focusing on what some might call the family trade.   Zachary worked at  M&H Fleet Services, Inc in Wolcott, a family business run by his uncle Mark. Zachary was learning the ins and outs of Diesel engines and trucks. Diesel trucks have always been a constant in the Holder family. Zach had a great love and passion for them and wanted to be like his Grandpa and uncles who had also followed in the diesel trade footsteps.

More than anything Zachary enjoyed being a father to his children Peyton age 7 and Jada age 6 Zach would do absolutely anything for them and he loved spending time with them playing outside watching movies and swimming in the summer.  Zach also enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting in Ohio and  in Indiana.

Zachary was caring, kind, loyal and funny. He would help just about anyone. And he could almost always make you laugh when you needed to laugh! Zachary loved his family even through the ups and downs Family is Family and Zachary loved us all!!!

He volunteered sometimes  helping at the Open Arms Food Pantry in Fowler.  He also volunteered some of this time helping his aunt and cousins with some projects throughout the years in the Wolcott Psi Iota Xi. And he helped his cousins  with the Tri-County Elementary schools PTO Winter Carnival for several years.

Surviving are Zachary's children Peyton Holder age 7 and Jada Holder age 6 both of Fowler  IN: his parents, Chester and Lisa Green of Warsaw, OH; a sister, Tori Williams (Joe) of Coshocton, OH; a brother, Ty Holder of Warsaw, OH and a nephew, Luke Williams.

Also surviving is his Grandmother Mary Holder of Fowler IN, Uncle Mark & Aunt Deb Holder of Wolcott IN, Uncle Jeff Holder of West Lafayette, Aunt Kim Holder of Fowler IN, Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary Holder of Remington IN, and Uncle Dwayne Holder of West Lafayette IN. As well as many fun and caring  cousins who considered him a brother instead of a cousin and many 2nd cousins who considered him an uncle.

Preceding him in death is his grandfather, Ralph Holder and Great Grandparents Glen and Martha Briles.

Rensselaer Police Department

** For Immediate Release **

On 10/25/21 shortly before 8:00 a.m. the Rensselaer Police responded to the 800 block of N. Scott Street for a report of a female unresponsive in the residence.  When officers arrived, officers observed 37-year-old Joshua Shanley administering CPR to the female who was identified as his wife.  Officers assisted medics in continuing CPR before it was determined that she was deceased.  Mr. Shanley advised officers that his wife had been feeling ill recently and more specifically complaining of chest pains and dizzy spells.

Mr. Shanley consented to a search of the residence as it was suspected that the death was caused by a drug overdose.  Officers located bottles for pain medication that had been filled just a few days prior that were completely empty.  An investigation began into the circumstances surrounding the death.

On 11/11/21 the Rensselaer Police Department responded to Mr. Shanley’s residence for a report of a male subject sitting in a vehicle outside, slumped over the wheel.  When officers arrived, Shanley was located and he stated he had a seizure but he did not need any assistance.  Approximately one hour later the Police Department received another 911 call for a subject having a medical emergency inside of Mr. Shanley’s residence.  Officers found a 34-year-old male unresponsive that appeared to be overdosing.  Four doses of Naloxone were administered by officers on scene with no effect.  CPR was done however the subject passed away.

Mr. Shanley advised that the subject was his cousin and the two had went to Lafayette the day before to cash a $14,000 check that Mr. Shanley had received from his wife passing away in October.     When asked by officers what had occurred prior to 911 being called, Mr. Shanley seemed to be deceptive with officers.  This investigation was then tied in with the death of Mr. Shanley’s wife in October.

Mr. Shanley gave consent to search his cell phone which was then taken by officers to the Rensselaer Police Department.  Evidence was located showing that Mr. Shanley made trips several times a week to purchase narcotics.  Mr. Shanley also had a message to his supplier stating that he got “14 grand today” and discussed purchasing narcotics.  There is an extensive conversation regarding what Mr. Shanley could purchase.

Another conversation between Mr. Shanley and his dealer was located that took place just hours after the death of Mr. Shanley’s wife.  Mr. Shanley tells the subject that the pills he purchased caused his wife to overdose.  There is also evidence that Mr. Shanley had his juvenile son drive him on more than one occasion to the Indianapolis area to meet up with his dealer so he could purchase narcotics.

Charges were sent to the Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Mr. Shanley.  He had left the Rensselaer area with his children who were not in school since it was back in session.  He was not located until he came to town on 1/18/22 where he was taken into custody.

Mr. Shanley is facing charges of Legend Drug Deception (Level 2 Felony), Reckless Homicide (Level 5 Felony), and Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony).   Additional charges may be filed as the investigation is still ongoing.
