Stephanie’s Story

Site created on April 27, 2022

On Feb 1st we took Zachary in for his routine 2-year-old physical exam. The pediatrician told Zachary he was all done and he could get his shirt back on. Zachary had other plans in mind and by the grace of God he made a funny turn and the physician noticed a curve in his spine. She recommended an X-ray follow-up that afternoon, and we were told he may have scoliosis. The next week we made appointments with two separate orthopedics and waited to hear their opinions and treatment options and an MRI was recommended to have a more conclusive diagnosis of scoliosis.

Again, by the grace of God, on March 25th we took the advice of one of the orthopedics to have an MRI done immediately. Results showed a baseball size tumor in his back. The tumor stretched from his spine to his outer shoulder bone, causing a mis-diagnosis of scoliosis.

As a next step, on April 1st Zachary was scheduled for a biopsy of this tumor. It took three weeks to get the results back, but on April 21st we got the call that the biopsy showed positive for cancer cells.

Today we are in the waiting process. We are waiting to figure out the best treatment plan to remove and treat his tumor and a group of doctors are working together to figure out the best plan for Zachary.

Zachary is in good health! He is a happy, active, crazy little boy and we are so thankful that he is not in pain. He does have some difficulty sleeping as the tumor is so large and bothers him at night, but during the day you would not know otherwise.

Josh and I are so thankful we love and worship a God who brings peace, hope, joy, and a future . A God with a plan for all things. A God we can put our Trust in. It is all out of our control and our little Zachary is in the hands of the loving maker.

Be praying that God shrinks this tumor and wipes it clear out of his body. Be praying the cancer stays localized to the tumor. Be praying that Zachary can have good night sleeps. Be praying for the best treatment plan and the best doctors to step up and work with us. And finally, tell us when you are praying for Him. There isn’t anything more comforting to know you have joined us in this ask that God heals him fully and completely for His glory!

2 Corinthians 4:8 " So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Newest Update

Journal entry by Stephanie Dellaria

December update:

In the book of John from the Bible, Jesus’s disciples were passing by a man born blind. They asked Jesus, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “it was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.” In this trial it has been so easy to think why, why God was our son born with cancer? Why couldn’t it have been me or someone else? And here God answers this. It’s so simple. God chose to use Zachary so the works of God would be displayed in him. It’s really truly never about us. This life and his journey. The pains and the trails we experience are nothing compared to the Glory we will one day experience in Heaven.

As we are walking into this Christmas season we are rejoicing. We are rejoicing that God is showing his power through continuing to heal and protect Zachie. We are rejoicing that his December scan showed no change in the tumor and we will remain off chemo for another 6 months and recheck then.

We ask that you continue to pray that God would completely heal Zachary that one day we will not need follow up appointments.

Thank you for the love, support, texts, call and prayers! We hope you have a merry Christmas celebrating the birth of our Savior and you are surrounded with the love and warmth of those you love.
