Yumi’s Story

Site created on January 24, 2023

Yumi took his last soft breath on Monday evening, January 23, 2023, peacefully and with utter dignity.   Hedy says: “My heart aches and my soul is at peace.”

Hedy and her sons Yigal and Avi took  Yumi to Israel, where he was buried on Thursday, January 26th.

The burial was livestreamed; the video is here: https://livestream.com/bti/otto-schleifer-funeral

On February 24th  there was a commemoration event marking the Shloshim, and a celebration of Yumi's wonderful life.  It was livestreamed; the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/live/7uq7z4GXL38?feature=share

If you feel moved to do something in memory of Yumi's beautiful life, please consider donating to HIAS, a wonderful organization that provides vital services to refugees and asylum seekers, and advocates for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives.  Their donation page is here: https://act.hias.org/page/6048/donate

Hedy shared that she is deeply grateful for the rich loving heart community that surrounds her. ❤️

Journal entry by Hedy Schleifer

Dear friends,

In January of 2024, I went to Israel. I wrote about it when I got home and sent it out to my list. Recently, I was reminded that some of you may not be subscribed to my list, and so I wanted to do two things:

1. Share my deeply-meaningful journey to Israel with you, as it is, in many ways, a story about my beloved man Yumi. You can read it here.

2.  Invite you to join my list, where you can learn about my Solo journey, as well as get notified about my work with couples and EcT. You can subscribe here.

I think this might be the last post on Caring Bridge; please do join my list to stay in touch.

I am in radical gratitude for your love and support.

Hedy
