Kim and Whitney ’s Story

Site created on June 3, 2021

Thank you for being a loved one in Kim and Whitney's life. The purpose of this site is to help lighten the load for them while their sweet baby, Henrietta Hazel Jones White, recovers from a difficult birth on May 30, 2021.  After birth, Henrietta was not breathing well on her own and she went straight to the NICU and required a breathing tube. Despite the breathing tube, Henrietta required more oxygen and needed a higher level of care. Within 24 hours of life, she was flown from Boise to Seattle Children's Hospital on a life flight. Henrietta underwent hypothermia treatment and was connected to a heart-lung bypass machine (ECMO). Since then Henrietta's heart and lungs have improved significantly and she was able to have the ECMO machine removed on June 5. She is improving every day and prospects for recovery are looking remarkably strong.

Whitney is recovering well from birth. Her and Kim are currently staying at the hospital and will likely be in Seattle for the next several weeks. Her family and friends are organizing this site on their behalf to provide medical updates, meal trains, and financial and logistical support in the 'Ways to Help' and 'Planner' sections. They, of course, want to emphasize how grateful they are for everyone's love and assistance.

Newest Update

Journal entry by whitney jones

Hi All - From the very bottom of our hearts we want to thank each and every one of you for all the positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and generous support of all kinds. We won’t ever really be able to articulate just how much all your support meant and means to our family. We are forever grateful. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such a wonderful community of friends, family, and neighbors. So thank you all again for everything big and small you did to support us welcoming Henrietta.

Apologies for not getting an update posted here sooner. The old adage no news is good news applies for our little family. Henrietta is doing great! We continue to have appointments and different therapies to help in her recovery and she is responding super well. She is tackling the little and big challenges we throw her way almost always with a smile on her face.

We’ve been advised by Henrietta’s care team we must do our best to keep her from getting anything as mild as a cold for at least a year to ensure her lungs continue to grow, and do not suffer another injury. So despite our incredibly strong desire to spend more quality time with our friends and family we will be continuing to keep to ourselves to set Henrietta up for success long term. This is super hard for us, we miss our friends near and far, we miss hugs, we miss snuggling friend’s kiddos, we miss hosting people in our home and being hosted. We will get through this as we know it temporary and in a relative blink of an eye we will all be able to spend quality time together in person.

Moving forward feel free to reach out directly to Kim and I for updates. And if you ever find yourself or someone you know with a baby in the NICU feel free to reach out or point anyone in our direction. We are happy to share our experience if anyone would find it helpful.

Thank you all again.

All our love,

Whitney, Kim, Henrietta (A.K.A. Hank), and Dougie
