Journal

Good morning!

It has been a hot minute since I have updated this and I thought I would let you all know how dad is doing.

Dad is kicking ass and taking numbers. He is working hard in therapy (although he has a tendency to push himself, but is learning when to take breaks). He is walking just fine with a walker and is beginning to develop independence from that. One of his therapists had him working on walking with a cane, but that was a bit too much for him. His speech is great. He is starting to eat more despite having a restricted diet due to "gerd". Mom found a low-acid decaf coffee that he can enjoy. So last week I brought over some donuts and we enjoyed those together with coffee.

Yesterday mom, dad, and I went to Lake Harriet for a walk. I had a the privilege of pushing dad around in his wheelchair-a temporary thing. He might not ever be able to go for long walks, but to be honest, I am not putting anything past this man. He is committed.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't thank the universe for allowing dad to stay with us longer. I know that we are lucky-especially during this incredibly difficult and confusing time-worldwide. It's actually pretty overwhelming at times to think about everything. I am sure it is for dad as well. He will be seeing a psychologist next week (the 11th). I think talking to someone who can provide objective, while being compassionate and empathetic, perspective is really helpful.

There is a lot of love in our family right now. We are learning new ways of being and what it means to practice diligent patience with each other. I feel incredibly lucky to have both of my parents around and here in Minnesota.

There are a lot of emotions that are in my body that are hard to articulate, but I will offer this one thought. Love is powerful and it has been the love and support of friends and family that has allowed our family to get through this experience. Thank you.

Peace and love-
Sarah
