Journal entry by Tom Hanrahan

After a long 8 days, we finally landed back home! Wes is doing significantly better! We have to have O2 at home now while he goes that last little bit to healthy, but we've wanted to have it on standby for a while now anyway. Thankfully he only needs it while sleeping.

I'll say it again, there's absolutely no way we could ever thank every person that has reached out or helped in some way! That said, there are a few places worth mentioning. The first being the medical staff at Mayo. We've often said that Mayo is the best place you never want to be. This last week has shown that to be true beyond any reasonable expectations! We were treated akin to family while there. The staff was so kind and attentive that we genuinely felt a slight sadness when leaving. I wouldn't have thought that possible! Truly, though, I don't have the words to describe how amazing they were. If only they knew what a genuine difference they made in our lives during a difficult time.

The other place we feel the need to mention is the Ronald McDonald House. We've always heard how amazing an organization it is, but seeing it firsthand was almost overwhelming. The amount of donations and amenities that came at no cost was astounding! It truly felt like a home away from home. When we were going through some very real trials, it gave us a place to go to briefly escape and get some desperately needed rest.

At the end of it all, though, we're not looking to soapbox or give some kind of awards ceremony thanks. We just really really want to give a little recognition to areas that made a huge difference when we needed it. As we've said throughout, God is at the front, with the community around us at second. You all are so appreciated, you can't imagine. So many families in our situation don't have the incredible support we do and we know that. Thank you all for making one of the toughest weeks of our lives manageable. Here's to hoping it's a long long time, if ever, we go through something like that again!
