Newest Update

Journal entry by Mallory Gauerke

Wow! I cant believe it has been over 2 months since Autumn was in the hospital. While many of the days feel long, the weeks and months really have flown by. The last few months have included lots of chemo, a shaved head, and an additional surprise....

Overall, Autumn is doing well. We just finished a pretty intense phase of chemotherapy that included steroids, daily doctor visits, a short hospital stay and a round of 7 shots due to a mild allergic reaction she had to one of the drugs. Due to the intensity of the chemo treatments during this phase, we finally had to shave Autumn's head. She was a bit nervous at first but she has gotten very comfortable with it over the last month. We were able to order a cute wig for her from a local shop as well as some thin hats so she has something to wear once school starts.

The next phase of chemo started today and while not as intense as the last one, includes the same drugs that put her in the hospital the last time with all the mouth sores. We are praying that she does not have the same reaction this time around! If all goes well with this phase, she will hopefully get to start maintenance in the beginning of August.

The additional news that we learned about in March is that we are expecting a baby! While we are still trying to figure out how we will juggle a new baby with all of Autumn's treatments, we are all very excited! I am currently 18 weeks and am due in the beginning of November. We are scheduled for our ultrasound next week so we will soon know if it is a boy or a girl (Brooklyn really wants a brother, while Autumn prefers a sister 😃) We are fervently praying that the baby is healthy as my age puts us at a higher risk for possible birth defects.  We will hopefully know more next week.

All in all, it has been a packed few months and I'm sure the next few months will be just as busy. Thank you from the whole family for your continued love and support during this time. We love you all!
