Journal entry by Lauren West —
Last week, Lincoln had her bi annual EEG and for the first time, she absolutely hated it! She’s no longer a docile little infant but a toddler who couldn’t stand the wires and head wrap — she was pissed! She fell asleep after a big cry fest next to me on the hospital bed and the test was completed.
Today, we met with her neurologist to evaluate the test results. Her test from six months ago was promising and showed improvement. This recent test was even better: a fully normal EEG, no discharges present. Today was a really good day. One of my favorite days at oakland children’s hospital, that’s for sure. Next steps are a follow up in 9 months with another EEG. If it’s normal like today, we look toward weaning her off her seizure medication.
Lincoln is walking, talking more, and has a distinct personality of sweetness and sensitivities…she has a hilarious pout when things don’t go her way.
She still receives services via a play therapist from the county regional center, but based on her explosion of development as of late, services may be unnecessary and cancelled by end of this year. We are focused on her speech development at the moment.
We are so proud of her. We feel so lucky for how far she has come and the medical, family and friend team who’s been in her corner this whole journey.
