Journal entry by W Dennis Percevecz Jr —
On Feb.14, 2018 I received a call from my doctor’s office telling me I have prostate cancer. It really freaked me out. I walked around for several hours in disbelief. Cancer was something that happened to someone else, not me. Well, I was able to go in and talk with the doctor, this was the surgeon, and after that conversation, I was not a fan of surgery. I began to explore the other options. Each doctor I saw did a few more tests and then wanted to “get a better look” at something, more tests. During this time I am in school, part-time, producing a show, working as an entrepreneur in the local music industry, trying to find part-time work and stay alive.
I was advised to sign up for a number of programs that might help me through this time, pre-surgery and post-surgery, and I have. My medical is all taken care of, I have food, I believe that there will be people coming to help, I made a schedule, so people who wanted to could sign up, (I had help) I have filled out reams of paperwork to see what I am eligible for and now I wait.
The biggest threat, other than cancer, is that I have been unable to work or find work that will work around the surgery and the fact that I won’t be able to work in jobs I have had before. I will have some weight restrictions as to what I am able to lift and carry for a while, about 4 weeks I have been told, maybe longer. I don’t have enough money in the bank to keep up with my rent ($490.00 per month) for the next several months. Hopefully, before school starts again I can find a campus job, or get to work on some projects that I am starting to work on now.
My surgery is July 3rd. Thank you, everyone, for your help and support. I hope to keep this roof over my head. Thanks
