Welcome to Wyatt’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportAs usual, we are long overdue for an update! Wyatt has been making his way through Delayed Intensification, which David and I agree, has been the most difficult phase of treatment this far. In addition to the introduction of some new and more intense chemotherapy drugs (through lumbar punctures and his port), we've had multiple week-long steroid pulses and are currently giving at-home shots.
Wyatt has been a trooper through it all. The steroid pulses knock him out and he alternates between a very hungry angry elf and a state of lethargy where he just wants to lay down, eat and sleep. These are the tough days when he's just not his energetic self.
We've spent some significant time in the hospital with a few long chemo infusions and clinic days. During this phase of chemo it's important that his white blood cell count is down so they aren't fighting off the chemo, but at the same time his absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is high enough where the chemo won't make him sick(er).
We have also reached another big milestone during this phase of treatment. Wyatt finally lost his hair. It took about two days for it all to fall out and we shaved what was left. This was difficult for mom and dad because up until this point Wyatt hasn't truly looked sick - but the hair is a clear indication of his illness. I think he looks pretty cute with a bald head :)
