Voni’s Story

Site created on November 20, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge site.
As we begin our long journey of discovery, treatments and care, your overwhelming offers of empathy, assistance and prayers deserve a shared digital space.
Sons Jason and David have become deeply involved in Voni’s care and in assisting me with gathering information and making decisions.
Visit our site often to get updates on Voni’s progress.  Read postings from her family, friends and relatives, view photos and post your own greetings.

Voni’s journey started with lower back pains in early October,  leading to a November 11th diagnosis of inoperable cancer in her lower abdomen
(vagina, uterus, liver, spine and hips).
Her days have been filled with medical exploration and testing — X-rays, MRIs, CAT scans, CT scans and biopsies.

Palliative care and radiation treatments are next.
Progress will determine the need for and the benefits of chemotherapy and her tolerance and desire for treatment. Clinical trials and new drugs may be considered, especially for late term cancers.  Most similar cases result in hospice.  Pain control will be prioritized with hopes of some quality of life.

Voni thanks all for empathy expressed in your paper-based writings, that she finds daily in our mail box.

Journal entry by Gary Kerber

Voni and I thank all well-wishers for your condolences, prayers, cards and visits.  Many memories of my Voni were heard and relived at her March 31 memorial service.  I may have felt her presence and heard her whispers of “Do I really deserve all of this?” and “You shouldn’t have…”.

For me, time to write thank-you’s to our deserving family and friends.  Final resting of Voni’s ashes will be in a columbarium in May at St Huberts Cemetery.
