Virginia’s Story

Site created on June 3, 2020

If you are reading this, you know our mom, Virginia Waddey.  You know what an amazing mother, grandmother, friend, faith follower and spiritual leader, community citizen, care giver, gardener and SO much more that she is.  You know that she is the pillar of our family.  Over the past few weeks, she has had some confusion, her voice had changed slightly along with her selection of words, but COVID has kept people apart.  We are all dealing with COVID times, and it is so hard when you can't see people to know what it really going on.  Thankfully last week, mom put social distancing aside and took a short trip with a couple of friends. They noticed her confusion too.  It was generally small things that when compounded, especially being around her 24/7, they were concerned.  Last Friday (5/29/2020), we received a call from them  saying we should have her looked at immediately, as she just wasn't herself and the behavior was unquestionably off.  She was taken to University of Alabama Birmingham Emergency Room.  Haylee flew in to join her and our sister, a resident at UAB, joined us at the ER.  She was diagnosed from her CT scan with a glioblastoma.  A "glio" is a very fast-growing and aggressive malignant brain tumor.  She was discharged to Nashville for care.  After visiting a neurological surgeon on Monday and having a Stealth MRI on Tuesday, the "glio" was confirmed with all of the things that you don't want to hear.  Fast-growing, aggressive, good blood source, spidery, bi-lateral, inoperable, large.  We have decided to proceed with a biopsy on Friday, June 5th.  This will tell us the make-up of the tumor and any options.  Our goal is to have the most amount of time with her with as little pain as possible.  If prayers are your thing, please send up specifically for Virginia to have a safe surgery and recovery.  Pray for little pain and quality time.  Pray for our families.  The Waddey/Hall/Osesek/Graf families have had full plates the last couple of years.  We know there is a plan.  We are blessed that she is our mom.  We are thankful that she has shown us selflessness and unconditional love.  We will keep you updated as we can.  Please know that we appreciate all of the calls, texts and expressions of love.  Be kind.  Love each other.  Find joy.  Live each day fully.  One step at a time.  With love - Haylee & Alex

Journal entry by Haylee Hall

One week ago, we had a beautiful service attempting to honor mom's memory.  Here is the link for those who weren't able to join us last week:  https://www.facebook.com/haylee.w.hall/videos/10223021457270031. I think you can click to watch even if you are not a member of Facebook. Thanks for loving mom and continuing to celebrate all that she gave us during her time on Earth and as she continues to shine on us all from above.
