Virginia’s Story

Site created on April 17, 2021

Virginia (or Gigi as many know her by) was hospitalized at Fairview Ridges Hospital, Thursday evening, April 8th with troubles breathing.  She was diagnosed with Covid 19 and placed on Oxygen and admitted.  Saturday and Sunday her breathing and oxygen levels became worse resulting in a trip to the ICU on Sunday, April 11th ending in quickly being intubated and placed on a ventilator in ICU when none of the other measures to help her breathing and keeping her oxygen levels up were working.  Virginia was placed on a paralytic (medication that paralyzes the body temporarily so the ventilator can do it's job and the body and lungs don't fight the ventilator.  She is also sedated.  She continued on the ventilator Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with needing full support from the ventilator and numbers not improving.  On Wednesday, April 14th the Dr.'s are Fairview Ridges recommended a transfer to St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul as they are COVID only hospital and they know all treatments and practices for COVID to give Virginia the best chance.  Unfortunately the beds were full at St. Joseph's and finally on Thursday evening the transfer occurred.  We the family ask as you read the journal entries that you are able to see the seriousness of COVID 19 and think of others in your actions - wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and stay home if you are sick to prevent from passing this!!!!  Also, please consider getting your vaccine to help stop the spread!!!!!

Hopefully this is our last post!!  Virginia is home and doing well!!! She came home last Wednesday and is Home Bound until the Dr. releases her. She has a nurse and P.T. come in twice a week for at least a month or longer as needed.  She continues to gain strength. She has many safety devices in the home to help her.  She can not be left alone so Clayton is there with many calls to Mom and dad and trips to her apartment to help them out.   Once again we can't thank everyone enough for all the prayers and encouragement 🙏 helping her and the family through this pandemic. She truly is a fighter!!!   Thanks and love!! God has been good!!
