Vikki’s Story

Site created on June 29, 2022

Welcome to Vikki's CaringBridge site.  On June 22nd Vikki was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (gallbladder bile duct cancer). We will use this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Sunday June 19th Vikki admitted herself into Methodist hospital as she was encouraged by friends and family to go in due to her jaundice. She had been experiencing gall bladder pain for some time and we had hoped the journey would end after the removal of it.

While in Methodist, CT scans showed 3 areas of concern; bile duct, gallbladder and lymph nodes below pancreas.

On the 22nd it was confirmed it was bile duct cancer, also called Cholangiocarcinoma (later determined to be gallbladder cancer). The liver looks good but gall bladder and lymph nodes do show cancer.

The morning of June 29th, she went back into the hospital because they found MSSA staph bacteria in her blood, and they kept her in the hospital through July 5th!

She was seen at Mayo July 13-14th, culminating on July 22nd with a laparoscopic procedure that revealed more cancer on here abdomen lining. No staging was given, or expectations. They will re-evaluate as to if they(Mayo) can operate after 9-12 weeks of chemo, which Vikki started on August 4th.

We need more prayers that Mayo will determine that this is operable, that there is a solution to get rid of the cancer, and that our minds and spirits stay positive in this incredibly difficult time.
