Victoria’s Story

Site created on June 11, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Victoria had two brain aneurysms, one of which ruptured on Sunday, June 11, causing a subarachnoid hemorrhage. This is the story of how God is orchestrating her healing. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for praying and for loving us so well!

Journal entry by Caroline Thomas

Written last night, August 27...

As I lay in bed tonight after Vicki’s fourth (and hopefully last) brain surgery since June 10th, I find it very hard for my eyes to close. I found today’s surgery to be especially hard, emotionally and physically, maybe because I just did not want anything to go wrong during her last surgery. Well guess what, once again God showed me that He was in control of EVERY detail and my worrying was for naught.

Tonight, as this traumatic and life changing event is nearing the victory line, I am so thankful for God’s sovereignty and the grace He has showered on Vicki, and on all our family, over the past 2 1/2 months. It has been an emotional journey, but yet a truly amazing one as well. The miracles I have witnessed, right before my eyes, have been so very powerful and such a beautiful testimony to the love our Lord has for each of us. Equally as powerful, has been for me to see the faces of the exceptional medical personnel, that have stood in awe, as they too witnessed the hand of God in Vicki’s healing process. Please allow me to tell a short God story. After her first emergency surgery on June 11, as she was fighting to live, nobody (Dr’s included) knew what her “quality of life, if any” would be if she lived. As Caroline, Louis and I stood by her bed that day, the Dr’s and their team began the process of finding out what her condition would be. As they sat her up in bed, a specialist removed her breathing tube, as we ALL held our breath and prayed silently. With her head lowered, she coughed and struggled a bit and then suddenly raised her head and started talking and gave us all the BEAUTIFUL smile we all love. Let me tell you, everyone in that room was touched and felt the presence of God that very moment! I followed the lead Neurologist into the hall and as he looked at me with tears in his eyes said “we in the Neuroscience ICU area take great pride in our skills and the job we do, but what we just witnessed with your wife was the skill from a higher power”. We were both very moved and emotional, so we just stood there in the middle of the hall and hugged each other.

I am finding it very difficult to adequately thank each of you for your prayers, love and the many acts of kindness you have shown our family during these difficult days. We have all been touched and deeply moved, as you have shown us the love of Jesus. Never forget that our God is a God of miracles and he hears and answers our prayers. Scripture tells us in the book of James that “the prayer of a righteous person is both powerful and effective” and how true these words are.

I close by saying that I am so proud of Vicki! The strength and grace she has shown, during a very trying time, has been a beautiful testimony to her life. On behalf of all in my wonderful family, I offer the simple, but heartfelt, words “thank you” to each of you. We love you and cherish your friendship!
