Journal

Hi all!  Sorry that we have not updated this page in awhile.  Mom was discharged on January 9th as planned.  Her and I made the trek from Omaha to Black Hawk in exactly 8 hours with several stops in between. :) She was packed and ready to go when I showed up and was so excited to get home.  A few times, Mom would read the speed limit signs to me (like she used to in the past) to remind me what it was and that I needed to slow down.  Ha.  She did also read the gas prices to me while on interstate.  Shae & Rylin were at her house to greet us when we walked in and she was so excited and could not stop hugging them. (BreyLeigh did not want to miss school, that was the first thing mom asked me when I showed up at Madonna; "where's my little girl?") Within minutes of our arrival, Uncle Larry was there.  They shared the biggest hug ever. First thing she did was sit in her rocker glider and just relax with a big smile on her face.  She is doing so much better being able to do what she wants, when she wants. (Especially drinking all of the Pepsi she wants)

Mom has gained most of her memory back and tries to tell us some really amazing stories.  She knows who we are and others that have come to visit.  She does have some really good sentences most of the time.  She really has to think about what she wants to say before she says it.  She was able to sign her name a few times.  If we ask her for too many signatures at a time, which we have, she has to close her eyes to think about what she needs to write.  Mom is seriously doing so well, we could not be any prouder.  She has made leaps and bounds and we only hope for more.  She does understand most of the time when her words are not coming out right and tries to change the sentence she says.  She can do most everything herself.

Mom will begin out-patient therapies on Friday.  She will be continuing physical therapy, occupational therapy & speech therapy.  We are looking forward to Mom improving more speech and language soon.  We probably won't update Caring Bridge as often any more unless there is something big to report.  Will try a every few weeks or so.  We are trying to get back to "our new normal" as quick as we can.  Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.  We appreciate every one of you.
