Donald’s Story

Site created on March 1, 2020

Don was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in October 2017. That diagnosis has forever changed his and his family's life. For those of you not familiar with ALS, please visit the ALS Association, Team Gleason (No White Flags) or the Ice Bucket Challeng. ALS  is a thief that keeps on taking. Don first lost the ability to talk; then, the ability to move his hands/arms and the ability to swallow; and very slowly, the ability to breathe on his own. We are taking a day a time; we are learning to keep a positive and patient attitude, and we are learning to live life as is.

Because no two cases of ALS are alike and no two people living with ALS are the same, come and follow Don's new journey.

Journal entry by Luisa Gamboa

Hello family and friends! This will be my last post. Don left us too soon. He has left a huge void in our hearts, our home, and our lives. Our home is just too quiet and empty without him.

We will miss you, Bebeto! Even though I new time was getting close, I still wasn't ready to see you leave. I'm so glad you gave Trevan and I just enough time to say goodbye before you took your last breath.

You will be forever missed! With all of my love!

Luisa
