Journal entry by Erika Walschaert —
I realize I haven’t updated in quite a while— Tyler is a pretty private person so having a Caring Bridge has been different for him.
Tyler saw the dermatologist 3/25 and had a biopsy done. He had a weird white spot located on the top right of his head. He could feel clippers go over it when he’d get his haircut. Even our dermatologist said it was NOT melanoma looking and if he hadn’t been diagnosed, she probably wouldn’t have biopsied it. It ended up coming back as Melanoma. His oncologist at Mayo called us direct (like I said, we love him!) and wants to continue the immunotherapy and will decide more when we meet with him in May and the surgeon in June.
Tyler had his second treatment 4/17 and continues to work as much as he is able to. He does have quite a few negative side effects, but he’s learning to manage them and never complains.
As much as I hate this is our new normal, Rhiannon has been nothing short of amazing. She understands he is tired pretty often and knows she can’t “see” his sickness, but that it is going to take a while for him to feel better. It makes me SO thankful for her.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Tyler's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
