Tyler is my 23 year old nephew born premature at 30 weeks with Mobius syndrome which causes his facial nerves to not work and therefore he has no swallowing ability as well as underdeveloped lungs and multiple pneumonias throughout his life, further complicated by the many aspiration pneumonias due to aspirating his saliva.

He has defied the odds multiple times in his life and already endured many surgeries/procedures. He has had his salivary glands removed, a tracheostomy placed to clear secretions, and a G-tube inserted in his stomach for his nutrition. He is unable to take any solid foods or anything by mouth.

He has been cared for by my sister Suzanne and her husband and thankfully nursing help provided with insurance for respite care and was even able to attend school and graduate at 21 years old!

He is ambulatory but sometimes gets lazy :) and likes to be wheeled in his wheelchair at his favorite places on Earth...Disneyworld, amusement parks, family vacations, Disney on Ice, parades...He loves to put something on the calendar and count down to it! He still needs help with the potty but continues to improve but does require diapers.

Tyler is a joy to anyone he meets, always wanting you to sing and dance with him, sit in his room, sit on your lap for hugs, let balloons go up in the sky and can be a little bossy telling you what Disney movie he would like you to act out for him!

Tyler began having bleeding episodes from his tracheostomy site January 2018. Upon the first hospital visit doctors were hopeful this was caused from irritation at his trach site. However in February 2018 the bleeding was severe and he was hospitalized and had a bronchoscopy (scope into the lungs) and a CT scan of his chest done which shows a very infected, bleeding, non-functioning lung on the left side.

After two consultations with thoracic surgeons it was recommended for his longevity to have his left lung removed. His right lung is functioning but not well. The left lung needs to be removed to prevent further bleeding, infection, or systemic infection that could occur.

The surgery has risks in and of itself and the risks of complications after surgery with infection or poor lung function with his remaining lung are great.

Suzanne and Stacy agreed for me to start this site so everyone could be updated on Tyler's progress and most of all to request prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery with no complications. Also for their rest and peace as they care for Tyler and for their wisdom in all decisions presented to them.

Thank you in advance to all of our family and friends for being prayer warriors for Tyler and for any positive, encouraging thoughts and love you can send to Suzanne and Stacy!

Journal entry by Ashley heintzelman

Dr. Wolf wants the whole lung full of fluid....... so we go back n a month for another X-ray to see if the top part fills up (see the newest picture).

He loved the way Ty looked and X-ray pretty good. He was suppose to see his NP but they all had to come see him. Beth said “we love him”!

ID doctor was pleased and said we could call them any time but told us we could see the ID doctor’s in Tupelo and Corinth if that was easier for us.

So great day!!!! Thank you all for the continued love and prayers!!
