Troy’s Story

Site created on January 10, 2021

Troy was diagnosed with a paraoesophageal hernia after being hospitalized for having gall bladder surgery. His stomach, pancreas, spleen, and small intestine were all up in his chest cavity. In 2017 he had surgery to fix it because it was all pressing on his lungs and depleting his oxygen. A mesh was put in to fix it. The surgery was an almost 6 hour surgery and went well, but complications set on afterwards and he had a 15 day hospital stay and once he was home was unable to work for 2 months. It's now a little over 3 years since the last surgery and the mesh didn't hold and everything has moved into his chest again. He has had extreme stomach pain in the last year and been to ER for it several times. And once again his lungs are affected and he is out of breath and winded. So we are facing surgery again. This time the Dr says to plan for Troy to be in surgery all day, he and his team have no other surgeries scheduled for the day. Keep us in your prayers that surgery and recovery go well.

We've had some fairly good days the last couple days. Pain has been better. I just wish the swallowing issue would clear up. He's still having difficulty with that. Dr still wants to give it some time and if it doesn't get better will have to do a swallow study and go from there. Also still experiencing nausea. Some days it's good and doesn't have any at all, yesterday was bad for that again. Not sure exactly why some days it's good and some days it's bad. He keeps hoping he feels good enough to go back to work the end of the week or the first of next week, I just don't know if thats going to happen. I hope it does because it's been a month already but I guess we just need to hold on and be patient.
