Journal entry by Tricia McCarthy —
When this appointment was set up, I wondered why I had to do this when nothing can be decided about treatment until after surgery. After the appointment, we were grateful that we had it. He explained so much to us from the type of breast cancer, how it happens (not what caused it), what his goal is in my treatment, and even drawing diagrams along the way. I was told certain things that would require me to have chemo and/or radiation, but again nothing is being decided until after surgery. He didn’t want to talk about the what if’s, because not everything will apply to my cancer.
He said that he is okay with me not having surgery for another week to two weeks, if it is going to be longer he wants to put me on medicine to stop growth of the cancer.
I NEED a surgery date…to make arrangements for my family, my job, and figure out what I will face next on this journey. Hopefully I will have a date soon!
