Trey’s Story

Site created on July 5, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As some of you know our sweet baby boy Trey was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 which is a genetic disorder where there are 3 copies of chromosome 18 instead of the usual 2. We found out in Dec 2017 and were told that our baby was "incompatible with life" and that we would likely miscarry. We decided to give our son every opportunity to thrive and we joined several Trisomy family support groups where we were able to see children of all ages living their lives. We started to research and learn all that we could learn.

If you want to learn more about Trisomy 18 the best source of information is: http://trisomy.org/

Needless to say the journey from diagnosis to birth has been an emotional rollercoaster. Our strong baby has exceeded all the odds and statistics that the doctors have said about his diagnosis.

Ronald Wayne Murphy III was born May 31, 2018 at 5:38 pm, weighing 4# 11.5 oz and 16" tall.  He is such a sweet spirited baby who loves to cuddle, do his PT work outs (just like Dad) and especially loves his big sisters, Jessalyn and Talene!

Late entry

It's with profound sadness that we have to give the news that our sweet baby Trey passed away early Wednesday (9/26) morning at home. It's a complete shock to us. Despite his Trisomy 18 diagnosis he was thriving. He charmed and blessed everyone he met and some who never met him in person. Trey was such a fighter and changed so many people's perception of Trisomy 18. He had such a sweet personality and was full of love. We were all so blessed by his existence. Trey would have been 4 months on Sun. He beat so many odds against him. We are so happy he picked us to be his parents but so extremely sad that we only got 118 days of joy with him outside the womb. We can't believe we have to live the rest of our lives without him. It is cruelness to have our rainbow baby for such a short time.

Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we try to navigate this grief.

We will post further info on how we will celebrate his life, and the love we gave him and he gave us in return.
