Journal entry by Kelli Walz

Reflecting on last year has us feeling grateful for what the year brought and hopeful for what's to come. We entered 2023 low on hope with the goal to keep Trent comfortable. However, Trent kept plugging along and has returned to a pretty normal life.
Throughout the year, medically, Trent completed his 30 sessions of radiation and daily chemo in February, began using Optune in March which he continues to use day and night, and completed the pulse dosing of chemo for 5 days on/23 days off for 6 months in September. Since then, Trent has had a consult with a UNMC Neurooncologist, which recommended the stoppage of the pulse dosage of chemo, but didn't have any other treatment suggestions at the time. He has had 2 MRIs that show the tumor is still there, but remains stable. Currently, Trent is using the Optune device, goes to physical therapy 3x a week and undergoes an MRI every 2 months.
As a family we have spent this year trying to live life to it's fullest while living fiscally responsible. We took a long weekend to swim at Watiki in Rapid City in February, traveled to Nashville to visit Trent's sister and her family in May, the girls participated in 4H, Vacation Bible School, volleyball and basketball camps, we all went camping at Merritt with Trent's sisters and parents in June, and Trent and I went with friends to Las Vegas in July. School started and Trent has taken over pick ups for the girls after school and attending junior high games to watch Maci. Trent flew with his sister, Brandi, to Nashville for a long weekend at Amber's house in October. We ended the year at Deadwood for Christmas with my siblings and mom and rang in the new year at home.
