Journal

Someone suggested I spend time writing about this journey. And, while I agree, it seems challenging to carve out good brain time to write about this instead of focusing on other things.

This has been a whirlwind couple of months. Diagnosis of breast cancer in December and started chemotherapy rather quickly afterward.

It still seems odd that there is this thing in me when on many days, I feel pretty good - normal even.

I just finished my fourth treatment of A/C chemotherapy. I won't bore you with the long names that I would have to google to include. My next round of chemo begins on February 13th and from what I've heard, it will likely be worse. (Not even really sure what that means.)

Most days, I feel like this is just a thing, a speed bump in a longer journey that will amount to a blip in my life. But, there are times when it all feels daunting. 6 months of chemo seems like a really long time.

I will also say, I have an amazing support system. It's been remarkable how they have been huge encouragers in so many ways - from a hug, to cards and texts, to Instacart gift cards that are helping Greg and I not just survive, but thrive through this.

I've never understood the idea of surviving. To me, that sounds like just getting by. That is NOT what I want at all. Thriving is more like it. And, if in the process, I can inspire others to do more, be better or strive for something they have been wanting to pursue, then I'm doing my job on the planet.

I do have an ultrasound scheduled for next week to see how the chemotherapy is working. Is it weird to say I'm excited to see that progress?

More later...
