Journal entry by Ashley Lanteigne Kaiser —
One year.
Somehow today we have reached the anniversary of that awful day when my dad tossed my mom in the car and rushed to the hospital.
We are thankful for the year’s worth of extra memories we were able to create…and we sure stuffed as many as we could from her arrival home from the hospital on March 13 until now.
While she still struggles with short term memory, sleeps/is tired often, and has some Anomic Aphasia (using the wrong words/forgetting the correct word to use when saying something) today is a GOOD day to remember for almost two weeks she was on a ventilator…for over 20days she was in the ICU and we were just hoping she could wiggle her toes…she couldn’t sit, stand, walk, talk, or eat….and now she can do all of those things with only minimal limitations. No small feat from her now 10 brain surgeries…..
Today we celebrate the memories we have been able to create when on this day in 2023 we were never sure we would get that chance…I will include a few photos with my immediate family from our times spent together since my last update in July.
