Newest Update

Journal entry by Kaylee Steuck

Hello, everyone!

Back with more updates!

Tonya has continued to show great progress at therapy. She is still doing Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy 3x a week at North Memorial through Outpatient. She has a new Speech Therapist that she worked with for the first time on 03/10/23. She will be taking over as the lead Outpatient Speech Therapist. They worked on reviewing family names, kids ages, pet names. Most of Speech Therapy is working on repetition of words to recreate new pathways to regain the level of speech she had before the stroke. The Speech Therapist has also provided tips for the family to support her and guidance on how to prompt Tonya towards words she may struggle with. Speech therapy seems to be the therapy that provides the most challenge for Tonya.

Speech Therapy has been sending homework home for Tonya to work on. She did four sheets last weekend and Kaylee helped check her work and made sure she did it correctly. (oh, how the tables have turned from Tonya checking Kaylee's homework)

She no longer needs to wear her leg brace during Physical Therapy - which is a huge win for Tonya. (And her dog Dean, appreciates it, as he's scared of the leg brace) :)

Tonya had a few additional appointments over the past couple weeks. She went to the Optometrist to have her vision checked and they want to do additional testing due to her vision after the stroke. She also went to the GI doctor and once she is off of Plavix they want her to get a colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Next week, Tonya has a CT scan and follow up with neurology.

Tonya recently received Handicapped parking permits, which will be a big help when she makes trips to Costco, doctors' appointments, and other shopping excursions.

Her appetite and spirits have been good, she has been making jokes and making everyone laugh when they are over there visiting.

Tonya's weekend visitors usually consist of her kids coming and going and her Aunts stopping by as well. This is a big help for Scott as he can get errands run and keep the house tidy.

The medical bills from the hospital stay are starting to come in and Tonya is still out of work. Please donate to or share the GoFundMe. Both are GREATLY appreciated.
