I lost my momentum in posting on Caring Bridge. I think with the pandemic and politics, it was just so hard to put "Pen to Paper", or should I say sit down and type. So much has happened to us all. As I reflect on this month of February, the heart month, we have much to celebrate. On February 1st our 4th granddaughter Sadie Mae was born and on February 10th, Tom received a new heart. Truly new life was breathed into our lives. Here is something our daughter Kelsey Morrison, (Sadie's Mom) wrote on Facebook.........
"Been thinking a lot today about what words I wanted to share with it being one year ago now that my Dad received the incredible gift of a new heart.
I think the most important thing I want to say is thank you.
Thank you God for hearing our prayers and guiding my Dad and our family through some tough times.
Thank you to my family and our friends for your outpouring support at every step of this journey.
Thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses and many other healthcare workers who helped us with answers and hard work to make all this possible. Not just the medical staff who helped my Dad specifically but all those who work (past, present and future) to make transplant medicine what it is.
Thank you Dad for staying so strong and and fighting through every roadblock, every lab test, every procedure that undoubtedly had to be more challenging than I'll ever know. Your strength carried you through so much and I am forever grateful that I will get more time to be with you and my daughters will get to know your love, humor, strength and wisdom even if they don't understand it all just yet.
And of course thank you to the donor and their family. I hardly have the words to express what you've given us all. The gift of a heart transplant comes from a courageous person opting in to be a donor and a family experiencing a loss so that another person may move forward with renewed life. It's just truly incredible and thank you is all I can say for now, even though it doesn't feel like enough".
