Tom’s Story

Site created on August 10, 2018

On August 8th around 11:40 pm we were alerted that our dad (Tom) and stepmom (Pat) were in a motorcycle accident.  The accident happened at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and Hwy. 316 in Goodhue county.  We were devastated to hear that Pat passed away at the scene of the accident and  that our dad was in critical condition and was airlifted to St. Mary's in Rochester.

Journal entry by Amy Otte Sirek

Today we took dad to Rochester for another follow up head CT to check for any changes. We received great news. The scan today showed improvement from his last CT and also that everything looks stable! We all felt that today’s results would be positive as he has continued to show progress.
A couple weeks ago dads doctors cleared him to drive. This was great news, although the condition was that he had to have someone with him. This allowed for us daughters to go on what dad calls “farm tours”. We had the privilege to learn more about corn, soybeans, cover crop, farm equipment, irrigators and much more. Being able to drive again also let dad contribute to the harvest. Dad was finally able to get in the field and drive his combine. That made dad the happiest I’ve seen him since the accident.
We continue to be very grateful for all of the friends and family who have visited, called, messaged, delivered dinner and yummy treats. This continues to make this process a little easier.
