Journal entry by Jarek Kozal

Dad's second surgery was a success.  The surgeon said that everything went as planned with no unforeseen circumstances.  The bone was harvested from Dad's good femur and implanted into the hole in Dad's damaged femur.  Now we pray that the bone graft will begin to grow new bone.  Dad will likely be in the hospital tomorrow and possibly another day.  Everything depends on his need for a blood transfusion.  Dad looks good, although he has more pain than he did last time.  They are controlling his pain with Norco.  We hope he will be able to sleep well despite another roommate who is a bit noisy.

I love watching Dad when he is resting post-op.  He is always starving.  Tonight he had a good appetite, eating roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, and chicken soup.  He wanted his family in Poland to know that the rosół is much better in Poland, especially when Ciocia Maria prepares it.

We are all very proud of Dad and his fighting spirit.  He doesn't complain much.  The only thing he doesn't like are the wires and intravenous lines to which he is hooked.  These make it difficult for him to eat and get his body into a comfortable position.  And we know that the quicker he gets out of the hospital, the faster he will heal.

Dad and our entire family is thankful for your continued prayers and positive energy.  There is no doubt that these prayers and positive energy are bringing about the healing that Dad so deeply hopes for.   Thank you to all who continue to encourage and uplift us.
