VFW Occoquan #7916 member, Grady Gilbert passed away on March 26, 2018. An active member, he served on the house committee and was well known by the membership. He was a very vocal political conservative who had many friends.

Born on November 22, 1949 in Virginia to the late Purdy and Willa Mae Gilbert. His older brother Venoy C. Gilbert and his wife Rebecca Sue Henderson Gilbert predeceased him. He was married to Rebecca for 42 years. Grady is survived by his daughter Jennifer Christy Moccaldi and his grandchildren Sandra Ann Moccaldi and Katlyen Gilbert-Decatur. His brother Purdy Gilbert Jr. also survives him.

Grady enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. He served one tour in Vietnam before being assigned to Fort Benning. He served a total of 22 years in the Army. After he retired from the Army he worked as a Correctional Officer at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center in Manassas, Virginia.

He spent the past thirty years living at the same address in Stafford, Virginia where he was well known and loved.
There will be a mass celebrated for him at Saint William of York Catholic Church on April 12th at 11:30. Inurnment will be at Quantico National Cemetery at 1pm.
