Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeany Geffert

Good evening every one.  Tom had his surgery On Nov. 12, 2020 we arrived at 5; 30 am at St. Joseph  Hospital and like clock work they prepped  Tom for surgery  and at 7: 15 they took him to surgery . I went to the Thoracic surgical waiting room .  I was praying  everything was going according to plan.  I dosed off a couple of times  and was watching the 2 phones in the waiting room. These phones were the life line to the operating room . at 11: 30 I received my first call from the OR . The OR nurse gave me a update everything was going fine. and then again at 1:30  every thing was find  and  it would be another  2 to 3 hours. . At 3:20 the surgeon came to say everything went well no complications and they were taking Tom to ICU. Another nurse escorted me to another waiting room  and in about 30 minutes came and took me to his room . Tom was in a lot of pain and the IC nurses were trying to get it under control He had machines everywhere and tubes as well they all had a purpose . IC nurses were wonderful and were constant  and attentive . That same night they had Tom sitting in s chair to relive some pressure . They coached in breathing and try to get him to cough which was very painful.

On Nov 13,  OMG he sitting up and he went for a walk with assistance around the nursing station  and was doing his breathing treatments  quite often , Tom was alert out of pain and being managed by a epidural . The Dr. were taken with his stamina and the nursing staff comment they wish they had more patients like Tom.

Nov 14,  they are taking  2 of the IV out , I gave up trying to list names for them.  They will start feeding very slowly through the feeding tube at 10per hour .    However,  he having difficulty  coughing so laying flat is impossible so at this time they want him in that recline position .  Tom walked this morning 3 laps  yea! but this evening his oxygen level started to fall so they took him back to his room  once he was in bed it returned to normal. According to the IC nurse's and his Doctor  Tom is doing great. However the battle continues  he needs the lungs to help with the cough  so they stay clear .

Everyone's  prayers are working please keep them coming  Love to all
