Journal

It is with sadness that I share with you the death my father, Tom Bice.  He passed away peacefully and at home early yesterday, on February 24th.

We are thankful to have enjoyed almost two years with Daddy after his diagnosis of terminal cancer.

Tom and Anne had been married almost 62 years and she has been by his side almost constantly during this time.  Patrick was a huge help in keeping their lives running smoothly, and I had the honor of being with both of them for the past couple of weeks.  Tom’s grandson Chaz has spent a good deal of time with him over the past year, and his granddaughter Julianne was with us when he passed.  They were two of his greatest joys.

Unfortunately, Daddy’s illness coincided simultaneously with Covid, and he was particularly susceptible to the risks associated.  His ability to be out-and-about, socializing, entertaining, visiting and saying goodbye to friends and loved ones during these times was hindered.  Of course, this was a small inconvenience compared to what many have been through.  A special thanks to those who made the effort to safely visit with him and Mama.  It meant so very much.

We have been overwhelmed with all the support, kindness and encouragement.  Our entire family is incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful people touch their lives through the years.

Daddy had decided some time ago that he wanted to make an anatomical donation to aid in medical education.  We won’t be having services at this time, but we would like to plan on a fitting memorial service after everything has settled.  We think a friendly and casual social event, likely including his much-loved tennis would be perfect.

In the meantime, any donation to the American Cancer Society will certainly be appreciated.  The continued support and love for Anne in the days and months ahead would be the best possible gift to honor his memory.

With great thanks,

Paige Bice Legg
